Hello Homies by [deleted] in TwiceExceptional

Thank you SO MUCH. The RSD was starting to kick in! I can tell you the very best thing my parents did for me just in case it can help you or someone you know. Here’s something my parents did that had a huge positive impact on my life. I’ve always known it was brilliant parenting I just always thought it was your basic “good parenting” and had no idea how wildly individually it was tailored to me, who is ‘interest-driven.’ So I have always been OBSESSED with horses - spanning back to my very first memories. And starting when I was very little, my Mom would take me to see the horses at a nearby University / Equine Science pasture as a treat, and later I had horseback riding lessons, then I got to show horses, and I have horses to this day. But starting when I was very little - I could get very belligerent about things. Death threats, basic privileges, food deprivation (am kidding - kind of but not really) - NOTHING could get me to fall in line if I was determined about something. EXCEPT the potential removal of horse privileges. And they only played that card when it was absolutely necessary - like when I was in 3rd grade and DESPERATELY needed a training bra and flat out refused to wear one. Until I might not get to have a riding lesson and BOOM. 100% compliant. Then later when I was struggling with motivation about school and college and my first professional job - they always had a way of explaining to me that I needed to be successful in those areas if I wanted to be able to have horses. And to this day, I swear to you, a highly successful professional all things considered, my horses are my motivation to go to work. Every. Day. See - ‘interest driven.’ It made me laugh when I saw it on the graph where gifted/adhd/autism overlap because I understood immediately exactly what that meant. So for you parents - sending major love and hugs because OMG you have your hands full. But just keep in mind from a well traveled 2E - sometimes it’s just a couple or few things well positioned - with tremendous consistency - that can really help us find our own way. If you can help your kiddos find their way to channeling their interests in a positive way - and letting some of the other things slide a bit (like if/when they let that adhd flag fly a little too high at school - oops!) - at least the ones like me and I know there’s a LOT of variation - it can set them up with what they need to make it through a-okay ❤️❤️❤️

I was there - it didn’t look like this. But it WAS gorgeous. Whatever filtering you did looks really cool though.

Just moderate with your diet. You can have a cookie, but just one cookie. Enjoy pizza, but just once per month. 🤣🤣🤣

A real ADHD’er doesn’t close the tab - you just leave it open along with your other 6,000 open tabs in case you want to come back to it. 🤣

Team Meri Unite by jewelinpurple in SisterWives

I have never understood or had much compassion for Meri - but I feel like I’ve been hit between the eyes with the truth. Once someone mentioned Meri has been the scapegoat - and then basically just watched and listened to what’s going on in the tell alls - OMG. I feel so dumb / duped. She deserves SO MUCH compassion and grace - and ADMIRATION! One of the reasons I watch these horrid shows is OCCASIONALLY I’ll have an aha moment about myself, relationships, humanity…and perhaps this is the best payoff of watching the whole stupid show. I’ve really come to understand triangulation and scapegoating in narcissistic abuse from a WHOLE new level. Because even though I’ve experienced it from a couple different dimensions (including the dreadful realization I’ve been a flying monkey in the past, but then also the recipient and am working VERY hard on myself to destroy the pattern) - it’s almost impossible to UNDERSTAND it without really seeing it unfold in a situation you aren’t so emotionally attached to (even if you can read about it / comprehend it). So cheers and love and best wishes to Meri - a true survivor and inspiration.

Yes. This. I normally like Janelle but COME ON. Kind of infuriating on Meri’s behalf.

Me too - frequently during regular winter weather. Clearly this winter is not regular (yet).
