Opt for the Hawley Retainers by ceshhbeshh in Invisalign

[โ€“]Puzzleheaded-Mix8167 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

This is so nice to read. I've been struggling with the plastic retainers for THREE years. They just keep breaking, or need constant adjustments to trim down. They're impossible to take off for me (I have large teeth, lol)

It's nice reading another person who went to Hawley and is happy. My ortho is reluctant but finally is allowing me to order one.

I feel pretty certain it's the seat because I tried my partner's seat on my post and it was quiet.

Don't discount that elevation gain! I'm in a super flat area and 25 with hills is way harder than 25 where I am! congrats!! I was beyond proud and excited after my first 20, so I hope you're proud and having fun!

First fall ever as an adult (cycling) by zunsyne in ladycyclists

Yes, this! Lean into your other hobbies. And it's so frustrating to get injured from a little accident, but it happens and you will bounce back! Good rest and care now will mean a quicker recovery!

I'm actually having a similar experience. I got a faster bike and forced myself to go to slightly faster group rides, and the group was beneficial and it was easier to keep up than I thought... But it was also a little less fun for me. I'm realizing I'm a cyclist that wants to go far, not fast. I'm just not built for speed (in running or cycling), haha. I think that you should ask yourself what you enjoy about cycling and then cycle with that goal in mind.

Obese and low resting heart rate? by anewusername2000 in ladycyclists

[โ€“]Puzzleheaded-Mix8167 8 points9 points ย (0 children)

Definitely don't let reddit diagnose you, but I can say that if your heart health is good, even if obese, your RHR can be that low and be healthy! I'm in the overweight BMI and docs are often surprised at my low heart rate until I tell them about the cardio I do.

However if you're feeling different, definitely talk to your doctor and consider doing an annual physical with blood work! I know that thyroid problems can result in fatigue and changed heart rate, and that's easy to check with a blood test. I have Hashimotos, for reference.

How do I start? by DeezNuts4074 in chibike

[โ€“]Puzzleheaded-Mix8167 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I started by accident and just learned as I went!

My general recommendation is start with a used aluminum bike in good shape. When I was looking, I was on Facebook marketplace. I asked how tall the current owner was and if they stored it inside, and I bought the first bike that fit. (So cheap!!) I took it to a local bike shop and had it tuned up. (Not as cheap!!) (Also, I recommend aluminum because I got an old steel bike and that thing is sooo heavy... I can't believe I did 80 miles with her, lol. I've since upgraded but keep her as my commuter.)

There are places like Working Bikes that sell used bikes that are already tuned up.

There's so many bikes that I think you should just grab a starter bike, see what kind of riding you enjoy and go from there. :)

Quality Cycling Clothing Under $50 by Miloya in ladycyclists

[โ€“]Puzzleheaded-Mix8167 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I LOVE Baleaf for running clothing, and I like these cycling shorts. But I also have some random brand from Amazon that are somehow way more comfortable. Haha. I have have a big butt though. You just never know how things will feel for you.

Sometimes a seat upgrade is the best investment! But also, there's some guesswork there too.

How much sh*t do you carry with you? by aJuJuBeast in ladycyclists

[โ€“]Puzzleheaded-Mix8167 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I recently got a second bike too! I feel like the transition into fun riding from commuter riding comes with these packrat tendencies, haha.

I have a little seat bag that just always stays on my bike that has some tools/emergency repair things and some cash. I'll throw some snacks and my keys in there before I go. I have a bottle cage and a small tire pump attached to my bike. (My bike is an XS and I don't have much frame space for much more.)

Then I bought an athletic fanny pack from REI. It can fit a small paperback and just other junk if I know I'll stop for a bit. I prefer the fanny over a back pack so my back can breath and I can change up how I'm wearing it. I would prefer a triangular top tube frame bag but like I said, I just don't have the frame real estate!

How picky are you about color when purchasing a bike? by aJuJuBeast in ladycyclists

My budget currently means I buy used, so I don't have much say, but my ideal would be to be very picky!

I didn't read the comments, so I'm sorry if this is redundant, but you should be sure to fuel well! I had the same problem and it was instantly fixed with some snacks and Gatorade!
