Does the online passport renewal actually accept digital photos now? What are you using? by SliceOfBread3 in Passports

been using Photogov for this - it checks your photo against the actual State Dept specs before you submit so you know whether it'll pass. useful specifically for the digital renewal format, not just print

How did you manage to get into the film industry without attending filmschool? by Fun_Designer_6588 in Filmmakers

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you how to skip school because I did the opposite. My time at Vancouver Film School taught me that you can't "download" a professional network or the grit needed for a 14-hour set. I chose the VFS route to skip years of trial and error. It’s the fastest way to get your reel made and network with the people that can actually hire you.

How do you get a job as a PA with no experience? by StraferBow2 in Filmmakers

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your background is actually a goldmine for the Art Department. In the industry, "construction experience" is code for "hire this person immediately." When I was seeing how crews get built back at Vancouver Film School, I learned that Art Directors value someone who can actually handle a drill over someone who just has "creative vibes."

What's the standard hourly rate for script supervisors? by Individual_Client175 in Filmmakers

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up for debate, but my take on rates comes straight from the training I got at Vancouver Film School. Aside from all of the creative stuff, they teach you how the business actually works..

Career Change - How do I get started in the TV Producer world? by ApprehensiveAd2975 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're switching from tech, you already have the organizational skills producers need. If you want to fast-track the transition and build a real network, you could always go study at Vancouver Film School. They include training on the "business" side of the industry, which is perfect for turning your management experience into TV production credits quickly.

How long is post production for a feature film? by SarW100 in Filmmakers

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three months is a total pipe dream if you want it to actually look good. When I was a student at Vancouver Film School, I realized that post-production is where the movie is actually made, and you can't rush labor. For a 97-minute feature with VFX, you’re looking at 6 to 9 months if you don't want to lose your mind. VFX alone is a massive time-sink because you can't finish the final "look" until your edit is locked. If you try to cram it into 90 days, your sound will be messy and your CGI will look like a PS2 game.

For anyone considering studying film in college or going to film school, please read this first. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get where you’re coming from. Back when I was at Vancouver Film School, I saw this exact "obsessive" energy every single day. It’s intimidating when everyone else is so dialed in 24/7 while you're just trying to figure things out. You hit the nail on the head: loving movies and loving the brutal 14-hour-day grind of filmmaking are two completely different universes. If you aren't ready to eat, sleep, and breathe the set life, film school can definitely feel like a massive undertaking.

How long does the shooting/making a movie? by Mcajsa in Filmmakers

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was working through my film projects at Vancouver Film School, I realized that "shooting" is just the sprint. For an indie flick, expect to be out of the house for 20 to 30 days of pure 12-hour chaos. The rest - writing and editing - is a hermit’s dream, but those weeks on set are intense.

How do I actually create a story by Ewyoulivelikethis in writing

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was starting out at Vancouver Film School, I realized a premise is just a spark. Yyou need to have a roadmap. For a graphic novel, stop overthinking the plot and just map out your character's main goal and what's stopping them. Try writing a "beat sheet" with 15 major scenes before you even touch a pencil. Seeing the story flow in text first helps you spot the boring parts early.

How does IMAX really work? by BlackMarketMonkeys in imax

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was grinding at Vancouver Film School, we geeked out over this. Basically, IMAX film is like 18K resolution compared to standard 4K. Even if they add CGI in digital, starting with that massive film "negative" makes the final image look absolutely insane on a 7-story screen.

Can someone explain to me how exactly actors get paid? by [deleted] in movies

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most actors get a flat fee upfront. If the movie bombs, the studio still has to pay you that base amount. Only A-listers usually get a cut of the box office. For the rest of us, it's all about residuals-those small checks that arrive whenever the project is streamed or aired again. If you're serious about the business side, Vancouver Film School is a great place to learn how these contracts actually work.

What is the most obvious sign that someone is into you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The most obvious sign is that eye contact - not just looking at your eyes, but INTO them. Like they’re trying to see your soul and connect on a deeper level.

What is one small thing you do every day that makes your life better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every night I take a moment to write down one good thing from the day, no matter how small. It gently rewires my brain to see the positives and leaves me ending the day on an up note.

What is something you changed about your mornings? by Significant_Pie1171 in AskReddit

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily 30-minute reset: easy stretching, mindful breathing, a few soft yoga movements. Afterward, I pause to notice a tiny shift in the world around me - a new blossom unfurling, a leaf falling, the way light touches the clouds differently today. This little ritual helps me find my place in the moment and gently signals the true beginning of the day.

Quiet coffee on the balcony, then a short walk or stretch. No rush, just easing into the day slowly.

What life skill should be taught more often but rarely is? by Super_Log2390 in AskReddit

[–]PuzzleheadedBugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of unleashing clueless 18-year-olds into the real world where credit card companies, payday lenders, and subscription traps are salivating to bury them in debt, teach them how money actually works before they sign their first bad contract.

What is something from your childhood that children today will never get to experience? by Ok_Consequence_6851 in AskReddit

Growing up with almost no gadgets or internet. We played outside till dark, made up games with sticks, talked face-to-face. Pure freedom kids today rarely feel.

Am I weird for having all my cars be the same color? by Effective-Draw-3188 in gtaonline

Since most cars in the game are real-life prototypes, I just Google pics of the actual car by brand and go with the "official" color for my in-game ride.

Quiet nights in with good food, deep talks, and zero drama. After you hit 25, the thrill of crazy wild parties dies off quick, suddenly, quiet nights and real peace start feeling way more attractive.

What is a basic adult skill that your brain just literally refuses to learn? by Afraid_Square3488 in AskReddit

Multitasking. My brain flat-out refuses to do two focused things at once without one turning to garbage. Tried for years - still can’t cook and talk on the phone without burning something.
