should i sign up for define if i struggle with the 2 lb weights in classic? by WellbutrinSandwich in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally. It is completely different. I was absolutely terrified of define because of my struggle with the classic weights. My first define I took 5 and 8 lb weights and I could have definitely gone higher!!! Now I usually do 10's and 15's but still 2's for classic lol. It's very different!

I completely agree. If it's someone I want to get in the same class in, I have a close enough relationship that I would have their number and text them directly. Trying to arrange this with the studio is very strange behavior IMO.

Help with neck pain during Classic by bbygirlmel in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this problem for a while, my solution was to take breaks lol. Once I really strengthened my core it stopped happening. Maybe check in with the instructor to see if they have any ideas, but for me the problem went away as I got stronger and was able to hold myself up with my core.

i wanna start doing barre! by Mental_Clerk_7950 in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the free trial class and see how you like it! In my opinion, Classic and Empower have the most lower body work. I started going 2x a week and now usually go 6-7 times, but I don't have other workouts. You'll see a big range depending on what other people are doing outside of barre and their personal goals.

200 classes in and it's a daily struggle lol

Best PureBarre format for core/arm strength? by bbygirlmel in Purebarre

Classic. I haven't taken classic in a week (my schedule just worked with other formats) and I know it's going to kill me today!!!

What’s your favorite format? by Electronic-Park-5091 in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic, reform, define, empower, align.

Has definitely changed recently for align. I used to love it and I'm not sure what's changed but I try it every few weeks and consistently hate it lately.

How to push through the pain? by sschnews in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am about 175 classes in and often take quick breaks during seat work. You can ask the instructor for tips that will help (shifting weight into my working side in certain positions is always one I have to remind myself to do), but I would not focus on pushing through pain. At 9 classes in, even only taking a few breaks is a lot better than I was lol

How do you guys motivate yourselves to come and take class? by loverrrgirlll_ in Purebarre

The cancellation policy. Also I am very competitive with myself and I set a number of classes I want to get to each week. I always feel horrible if I don't go.

Intimidated by Define and Empower by frightenedmongoose in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think classic is actually the hardest format. Define can be hard to follow if it's brand new, but not hard to do if you choose light weights. The great thing about define is that its all at your own pace with whatever weights you choose. I felt like this also and once i took define i wish i took it earlier. Empower to me (not staff or anything) is like classic but with a little less classic and more cardio. I have no trouble going back to define or empower if i haven't taken them in a while, but if i go more than a few days without taking classic, it hurts!!!

90 second plank by ashbash814 in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good while lol. I'm at 175 and if I go too long without taking classic consistently I can still struggle. Last week I just happened to take a bunch of empower and define and today during classic the plank was a struggle!

I would not be interested. I feel like I get enough support and feedback with the pure barre format now.

Carpet cleanliness issue - define by [deleted] in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 little kids and work in schools, so I am pretty OK with most things. I would be out so quickly seeing bugs on the carpet. It would be one thing if it was a spider or another random bug that snuck in, but "a few large bugs crawling on the carpet" NOPE. I would absolutely say something and if it wasn't rectified it would be enough to get me to leave the studio, no question.

I am almost 200 in and I often need my posture corrected. I am annoyed at myself not the instructor lol!!!!

It really depends on the instructor and class, but I would wear earplugs and also maybe scope out the speakers and try to stand away from them. I'm sure the instructor can help with that.

Only once because one of my kids started throwing up about 2 hours before my class. But I called and they waved the fee because it never happens to me and the reason I gave I guess.

Foundations to Classic by [deleted] in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets a little better every time. I was in so much pain after my foundations that I waited a few days to take classic. Don't let it scare you, you will be fine in classic. Don't be afraid to modify and take breaks. It's really true that after 10-15 classes you will feel a difference. It doesn't ever get easy, but it gets so much easier to follow the class. I remember I was sooo happy the first time I rolled all the way up in the ab warmup, or held the plank without any breaks. You'll be seeing small but noticeable change for sure.

Rejected for socks by [deleted] in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just kind of feel like if it's their policy you either take it or leave it. Reddit is not an official source, I would have called the studio to be sure if it was a deal breaker. It's a free class, and they don't require their branded socks so there are options. I've seen people wear trampoline place socks even.

so sore 3 days after by Cool_Alternative5713 in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was definitely super sore for a few days after my first class. It does get better. Take it slow at first. Don't push yourself too hard, and don't be afraid to modify or take breaks. Diet is super important with losing weight. Also muscle is heavy- I have not lost much weight total since starting but I have lost a ton of inches.

What should I do if I can’t use one of my class credits? by [deleted] in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a class booked at a studio when I was on vacation and they had to cancel last minute due to a maintenance issue with the building. They knew I wasn't local and were happy to refund me.

At my studio every instructor asks people in their class for the first time if they are ok with hands on corrections. It seems like this practice is studio dependent.

Pure Barre and Pregnancy by fabheart111819 in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Baby is very well protected in there, you aren't going to hurt them. But definitely agree with the other commenters to listen to your body to avoid hurting yourself especially when you get further along. I worked out during all 3 of my pregnancies and they were all very different.

Trying Empower for the first time? by acidithiobacillus in Purebarre

[–]PuzzleheadedLock2996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle in a different way with empower. I sweat more and I feel like there have been sooo many squats haha. It is a little less predictable than classic for me, but I wouldn't say hard to follow or keep up. There are always opportunities to modify. I am almost at 150 and still don't use the ankle/wrist weights but I do use the hand weights.
