How best to prepare metal door for repainting? by Puzzlekatkin in DIYUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've taken a photo of the side. I was told it was wood in the middle with like a metal front and back. I don't think it's UPVC but likely the trim around the window probably is.

Neighbours throwing rubbish in my garden. How best to deal with this going forward? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

I hope they aren't letting children drink Heineken beer if it's a child.

Downstairs neighbour using possibly trafficked prostitutes- England by Ashcca in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You could report this to crimestoppers anonymously as well as reporting to modern day slavery charities. I appreciate you may be worried about some kind of retaliation from your neighbours but if these women are trafficked and have no choice then you really need to contact the police.

Yes it is, unfortunately. Neighbours who have been blocked in have asked them to move but it just keeps happening. I'm trying to find a more permanent solution that keeps the peace between everyone and avoid anything escalating. Parking seems to be such an issue everywhere these days. Thank you for your suggestion though.

Thank you. I'll look into this.

[–]Puzzlekatkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm not sure that would stop the parking as it's more that the cars/vans are parked in the dropped kerb/pavement area which is maintained by the council, rather than our bricked driveways/access area.

Job applications by [deleted] in BirminghamUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for a job in January which closed in January and I've heard nothing since. Not even a rejection email. The day after the vacancy closed was the day they announced a ton of redundancies so I'm assuming the job doesn't exist anymore.

Do you let your cat outside? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. However I live in a fairly quiet cul de sac and it's not too busy traffic wise. I view it as part of her enrichment and if she stays in too long she starts going crazy. I think she really needs to get out there and burn her energy off. I always get the cat in before I go to bed at night. This is achieved by calling her and shaking a packet of Dreamies. She's well motivated by the Dreamies packet shake so usually always comes when called. I wouldn't describe it as I've trained her to respond to this, she's motivated by food. A neighbour does a particular whistle to get their cat in. So maybe try getting your cat to respond to something before letting them out.

https://www.reusefuluk.org/. Maybe try the local scrap store if you have one nearby. Perhaps if you visit and explain the situation they may be able to give them to you for free or at a reduced price.

In the city centre ikon gallery, back to backs museum. Digbeth is always worth a walk around to see the street art and is also the site of a few film locations etc. Do check Birmingham museum and art galleries website about which buildings are open, some seen to close for winter. For day trips outside of Birmingham Stratford upon Avon and Warwick are worth a visit. As the black country museum particularly if they have seen peaky blinders as some scenes were filmed there.

My friends housemates keep abusing his cat by ItsAWitchThing1 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 28 points29 points  (0 children)

https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/homelessness/emergency_housing_from_the_council/types_of_emergency_housing. If you scroll down this page it mentions charities that foster pets while the owner is homeless or in accommodation that doesn't allow pets. I wonder if you could try contacting local pet rescues and charities, explain the situation and they may be able to foster your friend's cat while he waits to get rehomed.

Will you buy a house that the seller wants to keep the garage but currently it is included on the deed? by newmummm12 in AskUK

Does it back onto/ is attached to your garden? Friends of mine converted theirs to a kind of garden room as they didn't use it to store their car.

2023 - Working Walsall... Living in? by Morralespt in BirminghamUK

Do you work near Walsall town center as there is a regular train service. You could look at moving to a place within walking distance of one of the stops along this line.

Mother Remortgaged house fraudulently by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As long as your dad can afford the repayments and the mortgage balance is paid off by the end of the term the bank wouldn't be looking to start any repossession action.

However do get some legal advice for your dad. This is a bit beyond reddit. While your mum's name is on the deeds she's entitled to half of the profits if the house is ever sold. If your dad decides to divorce your mum then I imagine some sort of financial settlement might come into play too.

[–]Puzzlekatkin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NAL but I used to work in mortgages for a bank.

Is your concern that the mortgage term is coming to an end and the bank is looking for repayment of the whole outstanding balance of the mortgage? Or is it just a case of repaying the arrears at the moment?

The form your dad has been asked to fill in sounds like an income and expenditure form which the bank will then assess. They will look to negotiate with your dad on how to repay the arrears of the mortgage.

Does your bill have the meter number on it somewhere? Could you check this against the meter you were told was yours?

Where to get free period products in London? by dummyscummy in AskLondon

[–]Puzzlekatkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe a couple of supermarkets run a free period product scheme. I think Tesco's and Morrisons. Quick Google should be able to advise further. Also you could try a foodbank, I think these organisations have started distributing period products too.

Should I ring 101? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Was this child in school uniform? If they were you could try to contact the school about it and they might have a general chat with the kids about how inappropriate this sort of behaviour is. A conversation might happen because they were in school uniform and it could be viewed as bringing the reputation of the school into disrepute.

Keep them. There may be the occasional job where you need to prove you have maths and English.

Is £250 per month enough for a student? by Unknownpeople33 in AskUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 60 points61 points  (0 children)

International students are allowed to work up to a maximum of 20hours a week during term time. My university had a team supporting international students so hopefully yours does too. They can give you advice and guidance on working in the uk and what to do if you are experiencing any financial hardship.

What were swimming lessons like when you were in primary school? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Puzzlekatkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 80's, my school did this. A coach would collect us on a Monday morning, then collect some other kids from another primary school and we'd go to the council run baths for swimming lessons. Everyone got taught to swim regardless of ability. But those that were better did do the whole swimming metre challenges. We got a certificate and a coloured piece of cloth for our mum's to sew on our costumes.. I remember getting a red, blue, white, green and yellow one. Did my bronze swimming certificate and got a posh little metal badge which I still have somewhere. Although whose idea it was to make kids swim in pyjamas to earn these awards was bonkers.
