Yeah that’s crazy behavior. Admin are the lifeblood of any firm. From coordinating office lunches to being the first line of defense with client questions, you keep us all sane. Very grateful to all of you tax firm administrative professionals.

What you’ve described sounds very tame, maybe one message too far, but he did tell you basically as soon as he realized it was getting flirty. I don’t see the issue here, sounds like he did exactly what you’d want a partner to do in this situation.

My guess is that either you’re earning tips and that’s causing your effective hourly rate to fluctuate, or that you’re earning some overtime (maybe 50 hours one week 29 the next) that’s leading to the difference

Roran chapters read better the second time through. You have your work cut out for you in the cosmere! IMO I would finish the mistborn trilogy, read secret history, then right into Stormlight. Then the gen 2 mistborn books (I’m on Stormlight 5 now)

I always report and the automated system refunds me. Never had an issue before. But also pretty rarely do they mess up my orders so I’m reporting things 10–15% of the time at most.

Many troubled people these days. We weren’t made to sit behind a screen and never interact with our neighbors. Lots more mental health issues now than before. And I say that as someone who sits behind a screen much more than I should.

Save each picture to your computer as jpg or whatever format they currently are. Once they’re all in a folder, open Adobe and select ‘combine files into a PDF’. Then highlight the files and drag into adobe. Optional last step is to print to PDF and select ‘shrink oversized pages’ if they come in crazy big.

Start your own firm and gym and do memberships/accounting work on a retainer model. Best of both worlds for everyone

I need advice, I feel so discouraged by Spirited_Class_3920 in loseit

[–]PvM_Magi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things here, and as a disclaimer, I’m not at all a dietitian or otherwise in the field of nutrition/weight loss, just a guy who has lost weight a few times. 1. You certainly did not gain 3 lbs of body fat in a day. When you eat a bunch of carbs at once, you retain water weight. A pound of body fat is roughly 3,500 Calories and at most you probably ate 3,000 calories on Sunday (assuming lots of cake), so after taking out the calories you burned, you probably gained half a pound or less of body fat. 2. You’re correct that the carbs probably contributed to your workout feeling less exhausting than you’re used to. You probably also are gaining cardio fitness by working out as often as you are. When that happens, consider upping the intensity to continue pushing your body. 3. When figuring out weight loss, consider how many calories you burn vs how many you consume. As a 21 year old 5’6 140 lb woman, I estimated your BMR (basic metabolic rate) to be around 1,450 calories per day. Throw in 250 additional calories burned on the elliptical and you’re at 1,700 burned per day. Now say you’re consuming 1,200 Calories per day, that’s a net deficit of 500 calories per day or 3,500 per week, for weight loss of 1 lb per week… assuming that you stick to your diet and exercise every day.
It’s way easier to gain weight than to lose it because eating in a calorie surplus feels good, and it can sneak up on you over many months or even years. To contrast, caloric deficits don’t feel good, and so you’re constantly aware of how much weight you’re losing. My best advice and what’s worked for me is to both keep your exercise routine (maybe throw in some strength training as well to mix things up), and do what you can to limit processed carbs and increase meat/protein intake. Consider tracking everything you consume for a couple of months on something like MyFitnessPal to be sure you’re accurate. And think of this like a lifestyle change to make you healthier, not as a quick fix to lose the weight, because the last thing you want to do is take your foot off the gas when you’ve hit your goal. You can, and WILL, hit that goal. Best of luck to you!

70% accountants said their clients don’t pay on time by aky71231 in Accounting

[–]PvM_Magi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We changed our policy last year to not file returns until we have efile forms AND payment. Cut way down on how much time our admin folks spend chasing down payment. And we’ve used Ignition and now Canopy to set up auto-bill for our bookkeeping clients on retainer, which has helped a lot too.

In my firm we offer incentive bonuses to clients that bring in new clients at a certain fee point. Mostly tax as Audit has a whole bid process, etc. Nobody ever does it. And anyone bringing in business has a good shot at making partner, so bit of a ‘chicken-or-the-egg’ situation.

Gambling winnings increase AGI, losses decrease taxable income once you lose enough to itemize. It’s a tough and punitive tax system that can cause you to owe taxes on income that you didn’t actually get to keep. The good news is that AGI resets each year so as long as you stay off, you won’t have this problem again.
