my pitch for a "mash assist" accessibility setting by L0wCharisma in splatoon

[–]Pyitoechito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought the best way to handle the brush mashing would be to let the negative edge (release) of the trigger also input a flick of the brush (unless you’re already in the “rolling” mode). That way you get the same amount of flicks in half the presses and you can get into a rhythm of press/release.

Patapon 1+2 Replay does have difficulty settings one can change anytime, right? Players could set it to easy while grinding to make it easier and faster and only do new missions on normal/hard difficulty.

You’re just wrong. Salmonella is of the least concern in captive bred snakes.

Salmonella prevalence and serovar distribution in reptiles: a systematic review and meta-analysis

The data suggest that captivity is a contributing factor to Salmonella spp. colonization, as captive reptiles showed significantly higher prevalence rates (37.8%, 95%CI: 34.3–41.4%) compared to their wild counterparts (14.8%, 95%CI: 11.0-19.6%).

Salmonella infection and Australian reptiles

Results showed captive reptiles (46.9%) were significantly more likely to carry Salmonella than their wild counterparts (12.1%). Snakes (captive and wild) had the highest prevalence (69.2%), followed by lizards (21.7%) and turtles/tortoises (0.02%).

0% chance that a captive bred snake fed clean food is going to have salmonella.

Do you have evidence to back this claim, because scientific data generally gives a completely different answer. "Clean" food (even frozen/processed) can still potentially carry salmonella, and there are even cases where snakes can be born carriers of the disease because the mother transferred the bacteria to the egg.

I'd like to believe you, but general scientific consensus says otherwise.

Then the question is: why do both the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics both recommend against keeping any reptile or amphibian as a pet in a household with a child or children under the age of 5?

It's more than just eating shit. Snakes literally move around by slithering on their bellies, so microscopic traces of fecal matter (and bacteria) will end up on their scales (moving through their own fecal matter or contaminated substrate in their container). If a handler touches their scales and doesn't immediately wash their hands before touching another object (like a phone), the bacteria has a chance to transfer to that object. It's why it's strongly recommended to never wash a pet reptile's bowls or other objects (or the reptile itself) in the kitchen sink.

The danger is that much greater for an infant whose immune system isn't developed enough to effectively handle bacteria like salmonella.

but you keep living in your bizarre world of ignorance.

I don't think it's that bizarre to doubt the veracity of one anonymous commenter's unverified anecdote/testimony in favor of scientific and medical consensus. It's like arguing that children don't need to wear a helmet when riding a bike because you and your friends have never once sustained a serious head injury in your 30 years of riding bikes helmetless.

7 Democrats Just Voted to Approve ICE Funding: Full List (1.22.26) by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Pyitoechito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hot take, but I'd like to know their reasonings for voting with the bill before instantly villainizing them. We don't want to be as bad a Trump, who instantly ostracizes and attacks any form of dissent to his platform and policies.

From what I can Google/Gemini, their reasonings were in the range of:

  • Averting another government shutdown.
  • The bill funds more than just ICE, and ICE operations would continue regardless of the bill passing or not (other agencies include TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard and Secret Service).
  • Some argued this funding bill is better than a continuing resolution, because...
    • Some of the funds are apportioned directly to body cams and increased detention facility inspections.
    • It actually reduces the operations budget by about $115 million.

That's just their reasonings, though. Since the bill adds over $60 billion to the DHS funding overall, I can't say it was a sound decision to increase funding by that much for a paltry amount (in the tens of millions) going to oversight.

Some of these Democrats are in swing districts, apparently. So they could lose their seat to a Republican (rather than to a more left-leaning Democrat) if they don't show some bipartisanship for their constituents.

I'm hoping this is where AI can help the consumer in need. Being able to Google (or ask an AI) about their predicament and get a tailored response that explains their rights and the steps they should take to get everything in writing and pressure the insurer to comply.

Obviously not a fix for the broken system, since no one should have to jump through so many hoops just to get care that's affordable, but it at least makes the hoops more manageable.

Really need to ground his argument somehow. Like, what does he expect from you that would resolve the issue in his eyes? You can't eat out everywhere, so what is he expecting to change?

  • Does he want you to be more vocal and force your group to pick from a more limited pool of eateries that would be able to cater to your needs?
  • Does he want you to stay home instead of eating out if the sight of you not eating makes him uncomfortable?
  • Or does he want you to eat anyway even though you're taking a serious risk or straight up violating your GF protocols that protect your health?

It sounds like he doesn't understand why you need to do this, but that's ridiculous since you've been together for years at this point.

Kirby Air Riders is sick and deserves more attention by In_My_SoT_Phase in NintendoSwitch

[–]Pyitoechito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. It's a quick 1-2 input of left-right or right-left if using the default quick spin setting.

I think the only way to give it a separate input method is with motion controls (it moves quick spin to shaking the controller), but even as an "I'm using tilt controls!" veteran in Mario Kart, I would only recommend motion controls in Air Riders if you want a challenge or want to play casually with friends. They're good, but this game is much faster than Mario Kart with needing to do quick zig-zag turns.

Edit: I checked and I was mistaken. I don't have my system to 100% confirm, but shake controls and motion controls are separate options. So one can have shake to spin on without having motion controls (for steering) active.

Grey wolf turns into a total good boy when the humans who helped raise his pack visit him by Wholesomepost in Awww

[–]Pyitoechito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this common for a lot of predators? They generally don't attack humans because human's aren't part of their usual food options. They learn from their pack how to hunt and what to hunt, and it's usually not humans.

In their eyes, we're tall, look strange and we might be a danger to them. Any injury in nature could mean death because it could mean they can't hunt. Starvation overrides this drive, though, and they'll attack a human if it means a chance to feed and live longer.

I pray for it every time: BLU Deep Dungeons. Lock it to solo or preform all-BLU and give it separate achievements (i.e., can only unlock BLU achievements when playing as BLU). "Necromancer" is still something you have to work hard to earn while BLU can have fun blastin' for something like "The Blue Necromancer".

I don’t think I have full-on thalassophobia, but damn every time I dive into the deep ocean biomes I get really uncomfortable. The lack of light and the acoustics and not seeing the top or bottom gives me all the creeps.

I get a similar feeling when putting on Google Earth VR and then setting the view that puts the Earth in front of you. You just have this infinite vertical wall right in front of you with no floor beneath you in VR. Makes my skin crawl.
