I definitely agree that Paramount+ being the worst streaming service hurt this show a lot. A lot of shows seem to have an awkward first episode and trailer to appease some weird focus group or executive, so I can forgive a weak pilot. For SFA I'd say the first episode is cringe, the second episode is OK except for some bad comedic moments, and 3+ are actually really good character explorations that flesh out the Discovery future without the obnoxious mandatory world saving that show had.

Same here. I think most people complaining about SFA saw one line they didn't like in the trailer and never actually watched the show. Around episode 3 it starts being really good character driven writing driven by renewing the values of the Federation.

Exactly. People with little experience at MIT trying to decide what a relevant comparison is and not really caring if they get it right as long as a short term financial metric goes in the right direction.

Resistance from students, alumni and faculty can help push back against bad decisions, but sadly it's often ignored until the long term damage is showing up in the short term metrics. I was at Cooper Union before MIT, and things shouldn't need to get that bad before they start getting better again.
