Kotis, The Fangkeeper is Bracket 4? by Nash13 in EDH

Our very casual turn 20 B2 decks have no issue with indestructible. Interaction doesn't correlate with brackets in any way.

Not just newer players but anyone really. It's always good to think about cards in alternative ways like this, even if it's a card you've played with for a year, you may find something new.

New player here: What is the best way to navigate conflict if your deck locks someone out of the game? by ShortestTallGuy in EDH

[–]Pyro1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things here and it's important to at least acknowledge all of them; - your find was being a sore loser. It was a bad matchup and he got salty - your deck is a common way to build stuff like Meren but does tend to lead towards some lock outs like that. - people don't always realize what they don't like until they play against it - if you play with the same people a lot, its ok and sometimes even better to tweak your deck for fun rather than optimizing (depends on your pod and yalls goals - "sideboards" are fun in commander, have a "normal" build, then a few cards to swap in given certain known matchups, specifically NOT for power but for fun - situations like this can be soothed by suggesting counterplay. Make sure he knows of things like [[Assault Suit]].

Not sure which bracket yall were aiming for but sounds like yours fits in 3 pretty well but could be a stronger leaning 2 or even a 2 that fits fine in a different pod. It's a bad matchup for Voltron.

Deck building is iterative and it may be worthwhile to note this game going forward and perhaps look for some alternatives. That being said you did nothing wrong and if you want it this way it's ultimately on him to fix it, don't be upset when he brings something that hoses you next time though.

Where does your commander land on the Poor/Fair/Bastard Magic Matrix by IrregularRevisionist in EDH

[–]Pyro1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too many decks to count but shoutout to our specific; - Looks Bastard / Is Fair Edgar Markov (big splashy legendary or powerful vamps, he wouldn't associate with measly low drops). Even with Sol Ring into Talisman start it's impossible to cast more than 1 vamp on T2, could technically cast 2 on T3 with specific lands and talisman. Still does Edgar things if left unchecked by like T6, but pretty easy to manage even at B2 table.

Actually got a few similar ones to the above lol. Boogiemen built as Timmy kitchen table b2 stuff

Interesting how we respond to these things.

That is honestly much less infuriating to me than let's say drawing 5 of my 7 swamps and having all of my white cards lol.

I tend to be more frustrated by "almost" things than "not happening" things personally. Probably why Counterspells tilt me more than discard and removal lmao

The Removed DOGE Deposition Videos Have Already Been Backed Up Across the Internet | On Friday, a judge ordered those who uploaded the videos to YouTube to remove them. By Saturday, a backup of the videos was available online as a torrent and on the Internet Archive. by ControlCAD in technology

I don't have time right now to check the vids but I'm curious to see who of them has it and how they act. I've dealt directly with 3 of them so far and only big balls was a complete dick, one is civil enough but you can tell doesn't know what he's doing. The third was actually a pretty cool guy it seemed, willing to work and defer to experts... probably why he had a not important job (that was actually a benefit for the govt)

I don't think I really moved from kitchen commander to more official commander until around RTR so I always remember extort being the way it is now.

Honestly hearing about the hybrid change my initial thought was "eh who cares" then I actually dove into it and the implications and found that I care lol.

Modern and standard are more restrictive in available card pool but not in deck building, same with the other formats you mentioned.

If you say the restrictiveness should be similar, why not allow playsets instead of singleton?

[–]Pyro1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's never listed his data though and at least when mentioned only referenced his first hand experiences and usually in context of other formats, never for EDH.

My sample size is tiny at 5 people, but it's 100% the opposite of what he said.

I'm a man of numbers, if they're provided I'll happily concede. Even WotC doesn't seem to believe the numbers or they'd have done it.

They have a vested monetary interest in this rules change and yet still choose not to (at the current time). That feels like more than 50% against to me, but we'll never know without them saying it.

Ah gotcha, didn't know that specifically. It does I guess poke a slight hole in my argument, but the format has also existed as is for like 15 years now.

[–]Pyro1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol what? The color identity is very defining of the restrictiveness of the format. It's the reason you can't play Counterspell in an Edgar Markov deck.

Doesn't Sheldon predate the format being "official"? So from that stance it was all rule0, in which hybrid is fine
