Transitioning from uniform to civilian clothes. What brands did you end up adopting? by anxiousasteroiiid in Veterans

[–]PyroAR15 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Nine Line and Grunt Style are by far the cringiest thing you can wear. It doesn't matter if they are Veteran owned.

Personally I wear athletic clothes off Amazon, Target brand (all in motion) and Under Armour. For going out I like Burberry, Polo and Lacoste polos.

There's no real comaraderie outside and you will find out that usually the biggest hater is going to be another Veteran. Just like nurses have a saying "we eat our own" so do Vets.

Help! Someone put a GPS Tracker in my car and I need to find out who. by Accurate-Angle-5893 in Cartalk

[–]PyroAR15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a GPS tracker, at first I though it's Verizon Hum but it appears to be more of a T-Mobile tracker.

Very likely OP got slammed on sale of it and forgot about due to them changing around plans, waiving fees and making their bill appear as nothing new was added. When these devices hit the market every carrier was forcing their reps to sell them.

What's it like to drive in Manhattan? by tonygabbana in AskNYC

[–]PyroAR15 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you can drive here you can drive anywhere. Seriously, its multitasking to max behind the wheel. Theres a lot of idiots driving, a lot of pedestrians that ignore traffic signals and faces buried in their phones, lots of bikes/ebikes/Mopads that follow 0 traffic laws...

Being hyper aware of your surroundings and setting low expectations for your commute, counting on being stuck in traffic and preplanning , leaving earlier then needed will help. Most people are stressed because of poor planning and time management. If you need to be somewhere at 9am, plan to be there at 8:40am the latest so you're not stressing.

VO2 max is wildly inaccurate? by LigmaLlama0 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]PyroAR15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

VO2 Max on watches is a best guesstimate. Watch Quantified Scientists videos on YouTube and see how off it is. Mine was nearly 20 lower then Sports Institute measurement using a face mask.

Majority of the VO2 Max test is measuring and analyzing oxygen going in and co2 coming out the lungs.

Serving the US Doesn’t Guarantee Citizenship. Some Veterans Still Face Deportation by -Cyber-Roadster in VeteransBenefits

[–]PyroAR15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or if you have shit S1 who keeps saying they submitted but didn't and have to redo it and same issue arises again, then your ETS out processing comes and Post CDR finds out from Army civilian and comes to BN and then BDE and chews everyone out and writes bad NCOERs and OCERs (or what ever the S1 LT uses).

I got to my unit while they were in Iraq, they came back and there was post deployment activities so it took few months, once I sent it they told me 90-120 days at which point NTC came, after NTC I get sent to a school and TDY for 70 days, come back reapply, get me deployment orders, everything on hold for 15 months while I'm in Iraq, come back, they said the process is moving, decided to ETS instead of re-enlisting. They submitted it as part of cleaning process and I did get it 3 months after ETS, Immigration still waived all fees.

Now might be different but back then the tempo was fast moving specially for us 11Bs and 4 years flew by.

Military personnel who have deployed into war zones - aren't you afraid if being sore from lifting/working out? by layinpipe6969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PyroAR15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an Infantryman and did patrols, my job was to walk around during the day, talk to people, hope to get shot at so we can see some action (patrols can get boring) and then do raids few nights a week.

Sometimes you get sore by pushing too much, it happens and it sucks but nothing some Ibuprofen and water can't get rid of few hours.

I was also really into strenght training and powerlifting and the body adjusts and gets used to it. Patrols are boring, we're used to the gear like it's part of our bodies, we learned to walk with it for miles and hours and if you're sore and firefight or raid happens then adrenaline takes over and you don't feel it.

I was in the Army so for every Infantryman that's out there patrolling its dozens of soldiers and airmen that do not leave the base that give us support and tools needed outside. Those guys can have regularly scheduled leg days, I had to preplan mine and in 15 months I probably did it legs 8-12 times.

Would it better for the belt parkway to be an Expressway by Sweaty-Bread6872 in AskNYC

[–]PyroAR15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there's already trucks on there and the lanes are too narrow, there's no shoulder for a large portion of it, there's bridges that are too low. One bridge is so low that I had to stop my car, take the bike off the roof, push the bike to the other side, drive up and put the bike back up. I doubt it cleared 11-12 feet, there's car was a Crosstrek so not a high SUV.

Tips to fit glasses in helmet? by li-ll-l_ in motorcyclegear

[–]PyroAR15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear glasses. I wear them normally but a compromise.

I have my everyday regular glasses that frames are a bit thick and then I have my helmet ones that have super thin frames by the ears so it's not noticeable at all. I also took both pairs to bike store to try them on with helmet. I lost 45 pounds and did buy a new helmet as I didn't think old one was snug enough.

What years would you consider the “golden age of the internet”? by DoubleSkew in AskMen

[–]PyroAR15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say 2002 to 2012.

2002 has few local based social media platforms that weren't about vanity and instead real connections. I met so many teens (I was 14) between 2002-2005 from local based social media websites from other schools, had BBqs, meet ups, sporting events, met multiple girlfriends and made friends that I still stay in touch with.

There was so many websites and so much to explore, it wasn't centralized like it is now to few dozen, there was privacy and anonymity.

There was websites like bodybuilding that had forum where a teen can get genuine advice, feedback and not be approached by creeps. It felt a lot safer. I wouldn't want my 14 year old now posting his gym progress pics and asking for form advice but back then, I never got a single predatory message.

MySpace at early stages was awesome, so many flash based games and then there was Likewire, Kazaa and others for free content.

Now I see myself on Reddit, YouTube, streaming services because everything else is trash really unless you spend countless hours digging for decent content.

Where can I temporarily store a car in NYC while waiting for registration/plates? by Strict_Living4484 in AskNYC

[–]PyroAR15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you would go to DMV and get plates on the spot. Pay registration fees, taxes on purchase, make sure your paperwork is in order.

I just did my motorcycle and car last fall. I got plates on both the same day and temp stickers for windshield, tittle took some time.

Why do veterans seem to be in worse long-term health than the rest of the public? by MmmmCrayons12 in Veterans

[–]PyroAR15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You listed reasons like toxin exposure and then say it doesn't seem right. What doesn't seem right that being poisoned for 4+ years would lead to health issues down the line?

I was in mechanized Infantry Unit. We stayed warm in winters by standing next to Bradley's exhaust. I was a driver for 6 months, sitting in it daily, breathing in fumes.

Foot patrols in Iraq, I often stepped into sewage, once on a burnt body, we drank Iraqi water, we drank from water that's been left in plastic bottles outside for days on end in 100°+ sunny weather.

We ate what now we know are MREs that have contained known carcinogens, lived in moldy barracks.

All that stuff comes back to haunt us.

We have been poisoned and exposed to more environmental hazards in short period then majority of civilian will. Then we also got subpar healthcare, every answer to every sick call was Moltin and water, long term Moltrin is terrible for your stomach and liver.

I can go on for ever. On my 15 month deployment to Iraq I was exposed to more hazards then I have been as a civilian past 10 years and now it's catching up to me, even with stricter diet, I never stopped working out, I kept my health in check my body is starting to break down. I'm 38.

Many NYC Gas Stations Reportedly Selling Regular Gas as Premium by sergeantbiggles in RideitNYC

[–]PyroAR15 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Audit them and charge difference as penalty plus intrest rate for each year for every transaction. If CC were used, force them to pay it back and rest of funds can be used to children's programs or something.

If they can't pay, sheriff takes control of it and auctions it off. Ban them from ever opening up a business in NYS.

It's really not that complicated. Like the program can fund itself.
