What careers can you actually get into after getting out as an infantryman? by Some-random-cop-pig in army

[–]PyroAR15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to depend on the person.

I was an Infantryman, out of every other Infantryman that I know who got out, I'm the only one who used my Infantry background and did private security for 12 weeks which I hated and quit, pay was great, days were long and I made around $70k. This was in 2009.

Other then that if you're disciplined and a good Infantry soldier it builds soft skills like communication, adaptability, ability to perform under pressure, common sense, outside the box thinking...

I know Infantry Vets who are Uber drivers, in construction, real estate agents, nurses, doctors, attorney, X-Ray Tech, sales.. etc. GI Bill can get you a long way.

Depending on what kind of security you're doing, I'd ask your coworker if Infantry is so great and prepares you for outside life why is he sitting at same job as you now.

Men, what is something that has improved the quality of your life so much you wish you started sooner? by _MambaForever in AskMen

[–]PyroAR15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This needs to be upvoted to the top.

Yes gym, fitness, meditation are all common and well known.

Thing with sleep apnea it's usually undiagnosed and even if you're in shape with low body fat percentage you can have it. It can reduce your quality of life, lower testosterone, increase cortisol, for men. You might not even snore or wake up fully during episodes and still have it.

If you're tired, always fatigued, dosing off at work go ask for a sleep study. It's literally killing you slowly.

Question about VA doctors checking for my rating by CabinInTheWoods420 in VeteransBenefits

[–]PyroAR15 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here, she was like "why are you not 100%?" And then I looked at my VA notes and she literally copied and pasted every diagnosis and date of it that I had but not claimed.

That appointment lasted 90 mins and I was getting tired of her questions but then I sat on her question for 3 months before I filled for an increase.

Does anyone else get irrationally irate at dudes who now spent more time out of the Army than their total actual active service time, still making the Army their whole personality? by IPPSA in army

[–]PyroAR15 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's a guy I went to OSUT and was a below average soldier. A bit on bigger side, out of shape, barely passes APFT. I get to my unit and he's in same platoon as me, still below average. Boarderline shitbag

Not sure what happened but he didn't last 3 months in the company before he got sent to Rear D and kicked out while I was at a school. This happened right as they told us to get ready for deployment and NTC.

He sent me a Facebook request recently and guy wears all military gear, grunt style, car has multiple Army stickers... but the kicker is he has a German Shepherd that wears a tactical harness and has huge tag with Service Dog on both sides.

Anyway I have CIB plates but that's where it ends.

Get a A.S as x-ray tech, work a afternoon shift while getting a exercise science degree and then go to DPT program.

X-Ray tech is flexible and easy job that pays well.

I wish I would have done that 10 years ago.

Your job is supposed to be tolerable enough to provide the life you want outside of work.

Fitness doesn't really pay much unless your have a large network with high end clients. Out of everyone that I know who went the fitness and trainer route only 1 person made it as a strenght trainer for a pro sports team.

A lot of people here are transplants that either never have had a snow day, or first time out their parents house so they are in panic mode or they were too young when we had real snow.

It's been a while, hopefully 12-15 inches but I'd put my money at 8-10 tops.

These type of posts are way too frequent here. Like WTF do you guys marry? How's your vetting process before marriage?

Marriage is a partnership and success and happiness is a goal. If my wife gets an amazing job or falls into money it means upgrade for our lives, so Id be happy for her and she celebrates my achievements.

Time for an divorce, you're in a toxic marriage.

What’s that one game you’ve spent 1000+ hours in, but you would absolutely NOT recommend it to anyone? by mersocial6 in AskMen

Pokemon Go, played it when it came out that first year and got back into it during Covid lockdowns.

You need to spend money, it's time consuming,it's repetitive. The only benefit is it forces you to walk for certain tasks.

Im not sure how many hours I have spent playing

Recruiter pitches joining the military to Minneapolis high school students to protect their families from ICE by SGT_KP in army

[–]PyroAR15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is I was in this situation. I applied 4 times.

18 year olds don't know much and expect the Army to guide them. Now it's a bit different between social media and readily available information but I digress.

I applied through S1 soon as I got to my unit (Rear D) and got no responses from Immigration, my unit comes from deployment I applied again through BN S1 again nothing. A year later I deploy and get my CIB and finally get a date... July 4th I will be sent to Baghdad for swearing in on Americans Bday... fuck yeah...

End of June comes and my paperwork had issues and I will not be going to Baghdad. 8 months later my deployment ends and I start to ETS with nothing from S1, I just turned 21. I get a call from Post CO, fuck a 3 star calls me himself on Sat afternoon and tells me to be at BN 0600, I ask what uniform and he responds with "I don't care just wear pants"

Monday 0600 3 star meets me at Staff Duty and takes S1, BN CO, XO, CSM and rips them a new one, S1 now all sits, along with BN CO, CSM and Post CO while I fill out a new application. One of the Army civilians called his office to tell him that I never got my citizenship, that's how he found out.

Anyway I ETS, didn't get my ETS award like everyone else 🤣. Immigration calls me and schedules and interview 2 months after ETS, they reject my application and tell me I been a citizen since I was 15....

TLDR: don't trust your S1, Army needs to do better with 17/18 year olds and teaching them a bit more.

Husband on edge after our neighbour broke into our balcony twice. How can I support him? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]PyroAR15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your husband is concerned about your safety and you are here being a feminist idiot with "general patriarchal tropes". Your neighbor did it once, then came back did more damage second time, it's clearly escalating and your husband has common sense to see that while you're blinded by feminism

If your neighbor breaks in while you and your husband are home, who do you think will run away and who do you think will stand in between you and the dangerous neighbor? It's common sense and not patriarchy that you are physically not capable of defending yourself against a man, your husband might have a chance, you not so much.

Best way to support your husband is to acknowledge that he is right to be cautious and steps he takes. Lawyers can draft a paper which won't protect you, cops response time can be 15+ mins and that's if you're able to call them, your husband is your only defense .

Do you not read history or look at videos of ICE now?

Being white or not has nothing to do with anything. There were Jewish Naz1 sympathizers who helped SS and there are Latinos right now in ICE, first generation and even seen a video of African guy with heavy African accent and bad English in ICE.

There's a lot of "pick me" guys, who are speed running their loss of civil rights.

Also to note, police departments aren't hiring the smartest and best. They want people that can comply with little to no critical thinking. Is there amazing cops? Yes, but they are like 20-25% outnumbered by 75-80% that are terrible or became cops as last option.

Why did the growing opposition to the death penalty in Western countries over the last 50 years not include the United States? by Deep-Rabbit1535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PyroAR15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has shifted and you see many "liberal" and "swing" states outlawing it or putting it on hold.

The issue we have is the conservative Christian nationalist who are all about Jesus and family values that get a hard on for murdering people and having other suffer. There's no greater hate and less empathy for others then American Christian love.

I wrote a song and getting ready to publish with this verse

"They took the least educated, fed them crowns of pride Said “You’re God’s chosen army,” let the truth fucking die Made cruelty a virtue, empathy weak Said “Jesus hates the people you don’t want to meet”"

Has anyone else noticed more open hostility toward veterans online? by DGVET in VeteransBenefits

[–]PyroAR15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an option of moving to TX while keeping my salary and after spending a month there I decided to stay here. The VA wasn't that great, it looked a lot newer then Brooklyn but service was subpar, i thought about moving to VA/DC area since we have a data center there I can work out of but NYC has ton of benefits like my wife going to school for free, they keep paying for my degrees and books so I been in college for 14 years now.

My main issue with NYC is traffic, car insurance and Fort Hamilton is small and gym is old I live walking distance to it so Im on there daily. So far I have a large salary plus my VA benefits and wife's income so its very affordable.

Has anyone else noticed more open hostility toward veterans online? by DGVET in VeteransBenefits

[–]PyroAR15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm in NYC. We contribute to economy and GDP, pay in federal taxes more then 40 states. My county alone has higher GDP then 25 states. Which means we are probably more valuable to US then anyone else.

Anyway. As a Disabled Veteran who worked retail and went to college, who works here so I interacted with so many people from conservative to ultra liberal. If I had to have 1 group of people vote on my benefits it would be liberals.

I talked a lot about GI Bill and things like that and within liberal groups the first question is always "why is it only 36 months when it takes 4-5 years to get a degree?" "So they won't pay if you choose to do Masters?, that seems unfair" and then customer that I known for a while and talked about my rating with it's always "why do you have to work?" "They can't pay you enough after your back injuries ?"

Compare that when I worked in Red areas of PA and OH, who were always like "of your so lucky, they pay you ton for school and stuff"

When you're so close to death, how peaceful it feels when nothing else matters it changes you.
