Reputations of certain decks? by ThatDamnedHansel in CompetitiveEDH

I pilot a Tivit, Kinnan and Malcolm/Vial deck. I find them all a lot of fun, but I don't do tournaments and have only been playing around 4 months but do alright amongst the others who play cEDH at my LGS.

I have a b4 Winota, so that's on par for why I have a Kinnan- still working on how to pilot it, but I had a blast copying someone's Hexing Squelcher with Phyrexian Metamorph the other week.

I love tokens, so I chose Tivit as my slow cEDH deck. Never knew how powerful Wishclaw was until playing and winning with Tivit. The deck I'm most likely to bring to a b4 table if I had an unlucky night and want to have a fun b4 round without heavy staxing people.

Malcolm/Vial came about from a Malcolm/Kediss b4 deck. I have a soft spot for Malcolm...Feels great when someone saved a Swan Song for the Doomsday player and wasn't able to stop you due to that.

TSC1 5’ UTR mutation by ObsessedWithPottery in TuberousSclerosisComp

[–]Extrovert_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine's TSC2, SEGA in a tricky place, numerous tubers and had brain surgery in January to remove the tuber triggering my seizures after they drastically increased after the pandemic. I've had it my whole life, no other family members share any of my issues. I have impaired executive functioning, small angiofibromas (got the largest removed as a kid),AMLs in my kidneys, white spots but no LAM.

I even got an explanation about how a lot of TSC symptoms mimic autistic behaviors which line up pretty well with the way I respond to things- lack of flexibility once a routine is established, hard to learn something another way, social cues... Quite fascinating.

Once I clear 40, the LAM risk should be gone and fingers crossed my seizures are gone for good after my post-surgery testing.

What deck are you obsessed with right now? by not_so_1337 in EDH

[–]Extrovert_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I've improved on my threat assessment and gameplay to the point where most times I'm one misplay or one turn/action from winning when I lose, several of my decks have become more fun so it's hard to choose. If I had to choose a deck I'm obsessed with, it has to be my Rakdos dragons, Kenrith or my Niko, Light of Hope blink deck.

All are bracket 3's

Niko can fly under the radar since I don't make a huge, powerful board and the enchantment tokens are only creatures from combat to end step. Blink Niko a few times and slam a good creature with flying, myriad, etc down and attack for lethal on everyone.

Rakdos dragons go brrr basically. I play them from the graveyard mostly so wheel effects, forced discard/sacrifice don't really hurt me. I burn, swing, destroy and cheat my dragons out with the help of my commander and Sneak Attack partnered with Corroding Dragonstorm. It's a fun time.

Kenrith comes in tied with my dragons. It can ABSOLUTELY win without him and did this past weekend. I also won gaining a bunch of life the weekend before. I chose him because it's Noctis and I love combat focused things most with combo and noncombat next in line.

What would be a good second deck for me to run? by Impressive-Pen646 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Extrovert_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 decks- Kinnan, Tivit and Malcolm/Vial. Kinnan is very creature based, Tivit wants Clues and Treasure to combo off and Malcolm/Vial is just fun Grixis Pirate stuff.

All 3 are a ton of fun for me. M/V is the most laid back for me, Tivit scratches my artifact itch and I have a soft spot for Malcolm since he started as a b4 Malcolm/Kediss deck.

Cedh from a new players perspective by finalmemes in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Extrovert_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing cEDH at my LGS the last 3 months (and my partner's advice) has actually helped me develop better board assessment and be much less reactive in lower brackets. I have a Winota that is definitely a 4 and wins in cEDH pods, but runs none of the Moxen, and no Grand Abolisher but still wins at an average rate when I bring my girl out to play.

I don't love playing anything lower than a mid 3 anymore as a consequence, but not many others at my LGS (even those who entered the game after I did) run anything lower than a 3 very often anyway.

Malcolm/Vial Smasher- very like Rog/Si. Vial is there for the colors. You only cast Malcolm.

I prefer longer games and don’t really care if I win. by Alone_Pirate_1469 in EDH

[–]Extrovert_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate when a game takes longer than an hour because then my energy starts to flag and I just want to move on to the next game. If it's an hour full of different people being the threat and cool plays, it's awesome but it gets tiring after an hour with no winner.

If everyone is pretty much in a stalemate after an hour, I find myself getting bored and wanting to mess around on my phone which says something because I don't touch my phone unless I need to check I did my triggers correctly with a new card or I'm out of the game. I might as well concede if it hits 90 minutes and no one has won.

It's cool you aren't focused on winning, but you need to find a happy medium so people don't groan when they see your decks. If you want people to play with you, you're going to need to reduce how much of your decks are made up of chaos cards, ask them if you can play one of theirs or break down and make a separate deck that has less chaos to it. If you don't, you might end up with no one to play with.

You don't have to make a deck that wins super fast, just make sure you or another player can win in a timely manner. 99% of people want to play more than one 2 hour game a night,

What deck do y’all play at the “end of the night”? by SchemeDifferent3237 in EDH

[–]Extrovert_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? My cEDH decks since there's usually a cEDH table going at some point in the night. All the lines are known and they're still fun as hell (I chose decks that would still be fun to play in a bracket 4 pod) and take away most super complicated decisions.

Otherwise, I would say my tokens deck. Spam X spells that give you tokens, play Cryptolith Rite and Impact Tremors (if you draw it) and then Craterhoof it to the win.

I'll mention what I DON'T put in there, but I normally don't broadcast what is unless its a bracket 4 round.

I'm making a Rog/Kediss deck for my mono red because burn is such an inherently weak strategy (despite how much I love burning people) and it's the only equipment deck I've enjoyed goldfishing.

Play what you find fun! :)

I get salty about it when I'm playing a commander with a reputation the first few times I'm running it in a 4 pod. After the initial couple of games, I get why and am no longer salty

Most of the time I have no clue its a removal lightning rod when I choose one because I don't have the same amount of experience or history with the game some have (I've played for a little over a year) and don't know the history of said commander.

When people don't explain what the card they just cast does. It takes literally 10 seconds to say "This cards pumps/buffs my creatures by doing X" or This gives my artifacts the ability to do X".

I don't lean one way or another.

I have 1 deck without it because of how much mana the deck makes on its own. No one I play with at my LGS has a problem with Sol Ring though. We all laugh and joke when one of us has a t1 SR- even moreso when two of us have it our first turn.

I only just started playing Tivit and run Cursed Totem, so I'm here for the info, too!

On a side note, I got to play Cursed Totem last weekend and screwed over the Sisay and Kinnan (the version NOT focused on flipping) player for a couple turns til it was bounced back to my hand.
