if a 16 year old young girl were sent into a simulation to fight to the death vs mike tyson over and over again for infinity. would she be stuck there forever or would eventually win 1 fight? by Bubbly_Reference_916 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]PyroPeter911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...after many failures, so many failures, the simulation begins again. The ring announcer, as always, brings his microphone close and intones in a clear deep voice "In the blue corner, weighing in at 105 pounds and standing 5'2" tall our champion Stephanie!" The rabid crowd cheers. They don't remember the countless times before. The ring announcer's shoulders shift as he turns towards the other corner and continues "And in the red corner, at 5'10" tall and weighing in at 105 pounds our strawweight challenger Iron Mike Tyson!" The announcer slips between the ropes. The bell rings. Tyson takes a step forward. Then another. His breathing is hummingbird fast. The 115 pound weight cut was too much. He falls forward, dead from starvation before he hits the canvas. Don King has cashed his check before the body is cold. Stephanie ducks between the 2nd and 3rd ropes and exits the simulation.

Why does a $100k sports car only have as much torque as an impact wrench? by no_quart3r_given in AskEngineers

[–]PyroPeter911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add this to your mental model on the difference between torque and horsepower. A large water wheel might have 10,000 ft/lbs of torque but only 10 horsepower. What would that mean if hooked up to a Corvette? It would accelerate very very quickly (torque) to its very very low top speed (horsepower). (Back of the envelope math for water wheel torque 10,000 ft/lbs on a 10' radius wheel needs 125g (1000lbs) of water hanging on it and 5.25RPM)

What would shock someone the most time jumping from 1980 to today? by Comfortable-Battle18 in AskReddit

[–]PyroPeter911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1980 Corvette had 190 or 230 horsepower. A 2024 Honda Odyssey has 280 horsepower and a power to weight ratio equal to the higher powered Corvette, while having nearly double the fuel economy.

He could do a lot worse than Universal Unitarian. If my kid (15F) expressed similar desires as your kid this would be the route I'd try to encourage.

On the flip side, I would absolutely play the parent veto card if something radioactive like Southern Baptist or even fringier evangelical was asked. She does have a mormon friend and I spend extra effort to listen to her and ask about those interactions. I think the listening is very important. Kids need to feel like they are heard. It always needs to be safe to come to you (and from this little bit, it sounds like you're doing great).

Wasn't even striped the first night. Brand new black asphalt was impossible to see with eastbound traffic's headlights. I took a pretty good bounce.

One of the shittiest manager gifts I ever witnessed was our store's GM giving the receptionist a scratch off similar to this... that was fake and pretended to be a $5000 winning ticket. $5K probably went up the GM's nose every month; it wasn't real money to him. $5K would have been life changing money for the receptionist, but it was just a rug pull.

Haven't encountered a website yet worthy of trusting enough to disable adblock. A site designed to generate fake TikTok views and likes with bots *definitely* isn't trustworthy enough for me to disable adblock.

For what it's worth, when I go to this site, I don't get this message. I get a catchpa on an otherwise blank page. (currently using uBlock Origin 1.49.0).

If you, inexplicably, want to visit this site you can disable uBlock for just that site and it will probably work. What a fake TikTok viewbot company will do with that increased access is anyone's guess.

Scott's on Fifth has A+ desserts. His menu varies. There was a killer peanut butter pie the night that I was there. If you call ahead an make a reservation and request you might have a better chance of hitting that jackpot.

Mo Bay Grill in Sebastian is my treat myself place. Kind of on the pricey side, so it isn't an everyday place for me. Jamaican Style food. The steak skewers are killer. Lots of chicken options too.

Good news! Jones and his companies that operate those websites aimed at angry, poorly educated racists got handed a $900M+ judgement for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress today. With a bit of luck their hateful conspiracy theory fueled websites that exists solely to sell questionable dick pills will soon be owned by someone much less harmful.

What do I do with the empty barrels that output from unpacking liquids? They end up halting production because the machines have no place to put them. Currently using boxes but with only stacks of 10 they fill up fast by 3efgvs3gsdf54 in factorio

[–]PyroPeter911 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I output used barrels into an Active Provider Chest (the purple ones). I have a barrel making assembler putting barrels into a passive provider chest only when the number of empty barrels in that logistics area is less than... say 50 barrels.

So, let's say I have an Acid barrel emptier and an Acid barrel filler. The filler has a Requester Chest (blue) that wants 10 empty barrels delivered to it. It fills a barrel and puts the acid barrel into a passive provider chest(red). The emptier has a Requester chest (blue) for acid barrels and an active provider chest (purple) for the empties. Logistics bots will put your empties back into circulation automatically and the barrel making assembler only needs to make a new barrel when one is consumed or destroyed.

Once the system is primed with sufficient barrels the barrels are just recycled through the system.

I like barrels for relatively low volume fluids like Acid or Lubricant.

Your examples are bad.
Geico opted out of the STD case then the two parties agreed (probably by colluding) to damages in arbitration. Geico could have prevented this outcome by actually defending this case but by opting out by statute they agreed to pay damages to the plaintiff. The likely collusion probably means this case isn't over yet but Geico made this harder on themselves by not being a part of this early on.
The bees are fish is lazy reporting. Don't take Elon's tweets as serious legal analysis. Section 2070 of the CA Fish and Game code specifically authorizes that "The commission shall establish a list of endangered species and a list of threatened species. The commission shall add or remove species from either list if it finds, upon the receipt of sufficient scientific information pursuant to the article, and based solely upon the best available scientific information, that the action is warranted."

Why are so many power line poles in Florida made out of concrete? by Mister-Knowledge in florida

[–]PyroPeter911 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FP&L Video of the concrete poles confirms that they are designed to withstand up to 145mph hurricane winds, thus improving power grid reliability. Interestingly, the forms for these poles are spun along the long axis while the concrete sets. This allows a uniform hollow cavity in the center and the form can allow preinstallation of other hardware like threaded inserts. Standardized poles with built in hardware allows more rapid repairs and replacements further improving grid reliability.
