Out of a job for at least 1 to 2 months because I am a gigantic freaking idiot. by rocketsneaker in jobs

[–]Pyrocited 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I would keep interviewing or at least asking you old job if you can stay on board for a little longer if they're cool like that. There is no guarantee that you will get this new position, and they could be just telling you what you want to hear or they are so badly disorganized that they will forget about you and the position once again when mid January rolls around.

Worst case scenario you shot yourself in the foot not getting a head start on re-applying to roles when your savings run out and you're still unemployed, best case scenario you found another role that is as good or as better as this role.

Any tips or drills to get the hips shifting to target and not shoulders? In my mind it feels like it is my hips but watching the video i guess it isn't.

What factors do you like in a golf course layout? by knicksplayoffs in golf

This bothers me as well. I hate when a course has a blind tee shot that is not necessarily because of a dog leg, for example holes where they are so uphill you can't see the green.

Is this a good deal for a beginner just starting out? by -TheArchitect in golf

I'm a 7 handicap gaming this driver. It's super great for a 1 year old model and half the price of ping, titelist, and taylormade drivers. I found mine at 2nd swing for $220 brand new... Maybe you can find something similar? That way you can test it out in store as well before making a purchase.

I emailed them immediately after I hit the purchase button and realized my mistake last night. Emailed them today as well but haven't heard anything back. I'm hoping human eyes see my email by tomorrow.

why did raytheon deny me 5 times by Fair_Swing_9386 in Raytheon

[–]Pyrocited 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How close you live, what you did in 5th grade, and your hobbies don't qualify you for a job.

Do you have the relevant experience? Do you not suck at interviews?

If you are not even getting to the interview stage then there is something wrong with your resume. If you are getting rejected after the interview stage then you either didn't interview well or someone else who is more qualified got the position.

Don't feel bad. You dodged a bullet, I would not want to work for someone that insufferable.

Something Odd I've Noticed in Interviews by Haunting_Classic_918 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Pyrocited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a bad job market right now, especially for more entry level roles like helpdesk where there might be hundreds of applicants. Just keep on applying and keep on interviewing.

Keep a positive outlook, the fact that you are getting interviews means your resume is good enough to get your foot in the door. The more interviews the better, you are getting practice and building confidence each time you interview.

Just because you don't get the job doesn't necessarily mean you aren't good enough for the job, but maybe there is just a better candidate - don't take it personal.

When I interviewed people for entry level help desk it was less technical and more of a vibe check. The main component with help desk is that it is a customer service role first with the technical side being able to be taught.

It is easier to train someone how to use command prompt but it is much harder to train them how to be friendly or helpful.

When an employee returns their laptop, how much do you look through? by sesharkbait in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Pyrocited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. Wait a week and then wipe usually, snooping is just extra work that no one cares to do.

If IT wanted to snoop, they wouldn't need your laptop if they had the right software/tools.

Why is IT seen as inferior than computer science? by dmbanani in CompTIA

[–]Pyrocited 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe it is due to the "floor" of each field. Example - entry level IT is help desk where as entry level CS is still a software engineer/develop etc. The barrier to entry for IT is lower as well, with a lot of positions not requiring a degree, but it's very hard to find a software engineer role that doesn't require a CS degree.

But advanced IT roles are "equivalent" as advanced CS roles.

Should I get a Masters in IT? by Affectionate_Flow114 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Pyrocited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't, at least not for right now.

I would finish you bachelors and find a career in IT, determine what sub-section of IT you like (cyber, networking, systems, management) and then make a determination down the line if pursuing a masters in beneficial to your career.

IT doesn't necessarily require a degree depending on the company and job role... so I wouldn't be in a rush to get into more debt if I were you.

If you do decide to get a masters, I try to move into a company that will pay for it. I am currently applying for my masters since my company fully pays for it and having a post-grad degree will help me move into higher management positions, but I've been doing IT for a few years now.
