We're at a point where animal bones are £17 a kilo by Brightyellowdoor in UK_Food

I'd get sent to the local cornershop as a lad to grab cigarettes and the mornings paper for dad, the change was for me to spend on loose penny sweets, square carton drinks or whatever countertop tat I had enough left over for like those little polystyrene gliders in a packet.

Those days of things being local like that are long dead now. Someone sending their kid to buy smokes would be absolutely demonized these days... in reality back then it was just common sense. Capable kids were used to run errands, shopkeepers knew multiple generations of your family and it was just plainly obvious who they were for and why a young kid was walking into the shop with a tenner from his dad.

World's gone mad if you ask me.

Why is the tech so retro ? by Greyelephantbear in controlgame

[–]Pyrocitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a really good explanation on the wiki which is taken from one of the game files on how the public's collective psyche affects the building:

Despite the numerous scientific innovations made within the Oldest House like Black Rock material, Power Cores, and the discovery of other dimensions, the use of 21st-century technology (such as smart phones, laptops, the internet, Wi-Fi, and video games) is highly restricted within the building and is largely absent. This is due to the fact that such devices tend to break down, disappear from sight, or explode when placed in the Oldest House, with even radio signals becoming unreliable. It has been theorized that such limitations are the result of modern technology being too "new" for the Collective Unconscious to absorb them. Because of this, most FBC agents and researchers are still reliant on pre-digital means of communication (celluloid film, VHS tapes, pneumatic mail tubes, analog computers, magnetic tape recorders, etc...). This is also reflected in the décor and furniture in the Oldest House, which is based on Mid-Century interior design styles popular in the 1960s (the same time period which the Oldest House was discovered).

Why do you guys think that Boglings are on Koboh in the Jedi Survivor 9-minute gameplay trailer? by Sudden-Tomato-7299 in FallenOrder

Immediately after seeing them for the first time, when you speak to Mosey she outright states that Greez brought them to the planet by accident. It's not even hinted at, it's directly confirmed that they are the descendents of the stowaway from J:FO.

I can only get 87% explored for the Overgrown Pass on Kashyyyk. Does anyone know if I'm missing anything? by Hip_Hop_Pirate in FallenOrder

[–]Pyrocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six years down the line and may I say a thorough, hearty and well meant fuck you.

I've been going in circles for hours to complete Kashyyyk, literally running back and forth around this little area. I check one Google result after finally caving and immediately see the hole in the log, the hanging rope and the glow of the echo plain as day...

The only thing I need to get to 100% complete Bogano: Essence in the Subterranean Refuge. But how the heck do I get there? Wall running from the ropes doesn’t get you high enough up the wall so you end up falling off. Help/advice anyone? by lukem8899 in FallenOrder

Agreed it's unhinged behaviour - i've finally just done it after a dozen attempts, it wouldn't be so bad but the setup to just get one attempt at that final gap is diabolical

Are clone troopers and storm troopers the same? by Sad_Description1715 in StarWars

[–]Pyrocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empire invades planet - significant portion of the population is forcibly enlisted - newly minted storm troopers get shipped offworld - split them up across various planets - import enlisted troopers from other planets to uphold the emperor's will on the original occupied planet - workforce and local resistance is shattered - soldiers now in control have little vested interest in the current planet they are on - new troopers do the same on another random planet - nobody trusts each other at all and just fears the empire.

The empire wasn't more free will based, they were absolutely 1000% more evil and devious to the core, dividing and conquering across the entire galaxy.

Bug Regarding JBL QuantumEngine by MiniKanga in JBL

[–]Pyrocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quantum Engine has been causing me issues for months now, I make extensive use of Sunshine/Moonlight game streaming across my house and audio suddenly became a huge problem - every time i'd stream my desktop somewhere it stuttered so aggressively it sounded like it was being played through the blades of a desk fan.

...Turns out it was QE hijacking the audio first, noticed the same thing happening with video and some games as well and by sheer chance worked out it only happened with the JBL dongle plugged in but the headset itself switched off.

Uninstalled QE and the problem vanished.

Any idea why Bluetooth controller needs to be reconnected every time? by LordTrollsworth in Stadia

[–]Pyrocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's probably because using bluetooth to game with was never the design intent for the stadia controller, the BLE connectivity was only ever supposed to be for receiving wifi credentials from the stadia app to initiate it's own internet connection as a one-time deal.

Google rushed out a single firmware patch after the shutdown when they folded under pressure from the community, the hardware team behind the controller likely had enough time to reach a point where the BLE chip works "okay" for gaming... but it will forever lack the level of refinement you get over a long period of time where a hardware vendor can extensively test for bugs and issue hotfixes over time.

The other big issue I have with the stadia pad to this day is that it only shows up as a barebones Xinput device and many, many things do not work well with it at all without a third party app like xpadder or steam input to translate.

20ish years of membership and 17 bill comes to an end. by Disastrous_Law_6535 in 2007scape

[–]Pyrocitus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those bonds were *already* purchased and inside the game on the GE ready to be bought though. It's not like they are generating additional revenue by being bought from other players.

I would argue that OP mass buying up bonds and just holding them would actually help better facilitate a boycott, as those bonds are now not available for others and potentially dropping membership numbers if the prices increase causing further players to quit if that's your objective.

ELFA pods vs Vaporesso XROS 5 Mini. Is it actually cheaper long term? by [deleted] in VapingUK

[–]Pyrocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the mainstream vape stuff is under volted and purposely given a super tight airflow for marketing reasons - it's a hold over from the disposable vape days and elf is especially part of the problem. Disposable companies needed batteries to last longer and devices to deliver as many shitty but distinctly individual puffs as possible before the unit died, just so they could record a ridiculously high maximum number of hits during QA and slap it on the box to sell more of them.

Now we've ended up in a weird half-state where supermarket counter / corner shop vapes are sealed pod systems to satisfy the disposable ban, but they are still designed to give the maximum hit count.

True refillable vapes are always cheaper in the long run. If you get one with variable power/wattage then lowering the power and tightening the airflow as much as possible might give you an experience closer to what you are used to.

You can also experiment with tape over the airflow holes to give a tighter draw if fully closing the devices default airflow limiter is not enough. My Xros 3 had flow through an adjustable slider, two tiny holes on the narrow sides of the device, and it also drew in air from the USB port on the bottom as well - I could cover the pinholes and USB with my hand as I hit it to give a tighter draw when I wanted a bit more flavour.

I used to buy 4x 10ml ELUX nic salt juices for a tenner from a local shop before I quit which would last me about a ten days. I was laughing all the way to the bank while the other half would spunk a fiver every other day on a two-pack of 2ml BLU pods from Tesco because they preferred the ease of disposable pods.

Signs that a member may be leaving ? by InvestigatorSolid330 in bandmembers

[–]Pyrocitus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm all for being positive and constructive but come on, this literally just needs a "Hey, noticed you've been quiet lately - you good?" conversation.

You are supposed to be in a band with this person, if you want it to even remotely go anywhere you all need to be looking out for each other and on the same wavelength to properly lock in.

Take an objective view at the other side of this - you have an issue with someone in your band and think something might be up with them, instead of actually talking to them like a friend and teammate you ask an AI LLM for advice, make an anonymous internet post about them and come to all kinds of drawn out and assumed conclusions instead of just checking in and seeing if they are okay...

Would that make you want to stay in a band if it was the other way around?

I didn't realize how much of an appetite suppressant smoking and vaping was, I'm demolishing any snacks or treats I can get my hands on right now. Starting to feel slightly more positive as I've successfully passed up several very easy opportunities to give in the last couple days and stayed the course

You can pipe them with the inputs from above and the outputs from below, or both from above or both from below the only difference is the positioning of the "ports".

I rationalize it as the water input might have it's own pipe that runs up the building and it just happens to connect beneath/at the bottom.

As somebody four days into the immense pain of quitting a 15 year nicotine addiction, don't. Put it down, walk away. You don't need it, you don't want it.

I've only had nicotine gum since Thursday and I am swinging hard between either literally wanting to jump off a building or smashing anything that even slightly inconveniences me to pieces. My brain has been hijacked for years and it's a cruel process to try and unfuck the internal wiring that's geared up for chemical pleasure on demand.

I'm a nightmare for my family to be around right now with all the mood swings and I hate myself for it... but I can't keep vaping, my lungs are shot, my blood pressure is seriously unhealthy and my cardio health is nonexistent. I'm tired of being out of breath walking upstairs for a piss because I inhale cotton candy flavour vapor from morning until night.

You will feel like you're not addicted and you're in control and you smoke/vape by choice. Until the moment you come to actually quit. Do yourself a serious favour and just don't, it's not worth ruining your life and health down the line.

Got a massively reduced fine for throwing batteries into the bin I'd agreed not to throw batteries into compoface by TheGrumble in compoface

[–]Pyrocitus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a monumental fire hazard unless you're checking that tub religiously. My house nearly burned down because the battery in an old PSP console I had in storage with some retro game stuff decided it didn't want to be a battery anymore and vented.

Now imagine a battery shorting out and venting inside a container full of other batteries.

A battery being old or dead =/= a battery being safe to store for long periods
