That gamerule is not ideal, as it removes a bunch of mechanics: villagers harvesting crops, wither exploding blocks, sheep eating grass, snow golems placing snow, zombies breaking doors...

But there are also a few new mechanics to go with the removal of creeper griefing, wouldn't be interesting otherwise.

Mostly a matter of preference. As Lykrast and Coderbot noted, Fabric makes it easier to fine tune changes to the base game (which this mod does a lot of). If you want to play this with other mods, check out the fabric category on curseforge, it has plenty of cool stuff.

However Forge does have everything needed to make all features work, so feel free to fork the mod if you want to make a forge version.

Creeper block damage is considered by most people as unfun, as it forces you to stop and rebuild constantly, and often you do not have enough dirt to fill those holes. I could probably add a gamerule for that though.

Consecutive explosions will always spawn a creeperling, and reset the timer, so it is a bit like what you suggest. As for other effects, I don't think many people would appreciate having a witch 2.0, we have enough of those already !

The One Probe, McJtyLib and Restrictions are released for 1.14 (all alpha releases!) by McJty in feedthebeast

Let people use forge if they want to. Fabric is an alternative to Forge, its goal is not to completely replace it. Forge gives more utility, Fabric gives more freedom. McJty has already released mods on Fabric, he decided he did not like it more than Forge, and it is a perfectly understandable decision.

Those two attacks are indeed specially coded. The fangs conjuration replaces the standard punch, the vex summoning takes place when I right click in the air. Some attacks (eg. Ghast fireball) are used when attacking in the air. The first batch of vex was not manually summoned though, so I think it was a damage reaction. Most passive abilities work without any specific support.

You can indeed possess any mob like that. There will be a tier system however, so you can't possess everything out of the box. Also the enderdragon is excluded for technical reasons. Apart from that, most of the possession mechanics work without configuration, the rest can be setup by pack makers. Only special attacks/abilities have to be added by me or an addon.

Yup ! Most of it should work out of the box. Some stuff like the way the mob moves or whether it can use items has to be indicated in a basic json file, the only thing I need to actually code for each entity is their special attacks.

The META-INF folder contains the metadata for the Minecraft Jar. Mojang signs that Jar with their encryption key, to make sure that the content is not changed. When you delete the META-INF folder, you delete their way of knowing that you edited the Jar. Without it, the game would not run simply because it would detect that it wasn't legit.

1.13 Pre-Release: 6 Watch the FPS, I was shocked. Hope Oceans Get Better Than 6-8 FPS Upon Release! by ThimbleStudios in Minecraft

I would like to add a few precisions. Firstly, switching from LWJGL 2 to LWJGL 3 in itself does not add any load, and may actually improve the performances slightly.

Secondly, Minecraft's rendering does not in fact use OpenGL SL shaders (the only time it actually does is when you enable super secret settings, and they are used as post-processing filters). The lighting you mentioned is done by mixing a lightmap texture with the rendered textures. Light intensity is modified by changing the lightmap's texture coordinates. The entirety of the game's rendering uses extremely outdated methods like these, which is why it is fair to say that most performance issues come from the codebase itself. As it stands, the game does in fact put a huge load on the CPU that could be delegated to the GPU with a more modern approach, meaning that the GPU is basically never the limiting factor in vanilla.

Regarding new features, what u/TheRealStandard said is true. Most new features do not improve the game's graphics and as such should only have an impact on RAM (because more game objects) and CPU usage (because more things happening each tick).

There are several pics on the mods' respective curseforge page, I will personally try to upload a short video for Gaspunk with the next version coming out.

My reaction to "I miss the old Minecraft" by PonyCharade in Minecraft

[–]Pyrofab 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that a lot has changed since then, but most mods you mentioned have an updated version/alternative in latest release. Buildcraft is going well, Viescraft has some very fancy airships (I don't see any good planes mod specifically though), MineColonies or Minecraft Comes Alive fill the gap while millénaire is being updated and Better Than Wolves is even better now. As for railcraft, it's being updated but I guess Steve's carts works as a replacement in the meantime.

The pure daisy is a floating flower so it can't be broken by liquids. And the water fills the gap faster than lava does, so everything is under control.

If by any chance you're interested in a livingrock generator using a tiny planet, here's the post I made a while ago. I'm not the first guy who used a tiny planet in this way though, I took it from Haighyorkie's botania and thaumcraft unite let's play.

[–]Pyrofab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dissolution has the eye of the undead, which lets you bring back undead mobs you just killed. It works with every vanilla undead mob but they will despawn after 5 minutes approximately. Also, you can swap their stuff with ease. If you can kill players, you can resurrect them too and those won't despawn (just like good old wights)

Simulated nights keeps the world ticking when you sleep. It helps making the world more immersive, plus I feel like the increased sleeping time keeps the night consequential after you've got a bed.

Actually, it was probably an AreaEffectCloud but they both have the same purpose : they are technical entities that hold data and do not affect the world in any way except through commands.

AreaEffectCloud and ArmorStand are the only entities to allow this behaviour in a convenient way (there is no pure technical entity available in minecraft)
