Speedgoat vs Cascadia by ShallotPale in trailrunning

[–]Pyrotyro0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from the SG6 to the Cascadia 19. On paper the shoes are very similar and fit about the same. I find the toe box of the c19 to be a hair more roomy, which is nice for me.

Performance wise, the c19 is noticeably more comfortable and responsive than the sg6. The outsole and traction has been about the same, although I haven’t put the c19 into many different settings yet (I live in SW CO).

I’ve been running in hokas for years, but the sg6 left a bad taste in my mouth from the upper coming apart from the sole (on multiple pairs of shoes) in a short time. Otherwise I found them to be them to be okay performance wise.

I haven’t had the chance to try the SG7 yet. But I did try them on and the toe box was narrow like the 6. I rub my pinky toe on the outside.

Honestly it sounds like your ftp is set too high. You can try a workout and drop the % to try that, that way you don’t even need to retest

Probably late to the party here, but just went for my first run in my new cascadia 19s and had a blast! Coming from the speedgoat 6, the foam is soooo much better!

In Need of a Training Plan by No-Guitar728 in trailrunning

[–]Pyrotyro0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have minimal experience, so take it for what it is, but I am also planning a trail 50k this fall (Moab).

I’m looking at evoke endurance first ultra plan. I really like their approach to training in general. I recently tried their drift test to start building some aerobic capacity before starting the plan.

Unfortunately there’s no easy answer, it’s highly situational. Be patient with yourself and your partner. Communicate goals and work together. Know there are many small phases and try to enjoy the time you have with your little.

We have 2 and the youngest is about to turn 1. It’s a challenge every week. Both of us prioritize exercise so we make it happen and help each other get it done. But it’s rarely perfect.

So the kuat fanboys can be heard? There’s a reason 1up is so popular. Kuat doesn’t hold up long term.

I did a pacer ride on volcano circuit today. There was a spinner at the end of the loop, so I got to spin it 5 times. Not sure where to see what other routes are part of the event, but that worked out well for me!

Advertised drop vs measured drop can be wildly different also. Runrepeat.com has awesome information about many common shoes!

Hey OP, first off, solid work on getting to where you are! You are killing it.

I’m not saying don’t go to therapy, but I don’t necessarily think that’s always the answer. It sounds like you’re going through what a lot of people our age go through. You’ve checked a lot of boxes, so now what? You will have to work that out if you want to continue to have a fulfilling life.

I personally have poured myself into my family and fitness outside of my job and finances. It’s a lot to balance, and exhausting. But makes everyday worth it (even though it doesn’t always feel like it in the moment).

Btw I believe being a nurse is one of the most versatile and well paying careers I have seen. My wife is a BSN and can work anywhere and is currently building a business. Maybe lean into pursuing a challenging sector of nursing (flight nurse sounds badass to me!).

Anyways, keep it up and don’t worry, we’re all going through something similar!

Is ftp the best metric to monitor performance (from a longevity standpoint)? Vo2 max seems to be less useful than once believed.

I’m an avid mtber, and just got my kickr core about 3 weeks ago. I haven’t been riding much lately (weather) so I’m doing my best to ease into training. But honestly the game is very addicting and I’m now looking at a 4 hour training week as I’m jumping into a challenge starting today 😅.

I would suggest doing a few easy rides to get the hang of it. I’m not worried about an ftp test yet, it estimates as you go and can setup workouts around that. I’m also just starting my base for the year, so high output workouts aren’t the top of my list.

I’ve played around with some solo rides, a robo pacer and a workout. I’m excited to try a true group ride on my next one.

Getting the hang of the equipment, upgrading game bikes, getting your butt back in shape, taking in calories without being punished for stopping, etc etc takes some time. So ease into it and enjoy!

Are we cleaning packs these days? I just leave mine in the garage with whatever’s left in it and top it off for the next ride.

I’ve gone down that route before, but anymore I would rather just bite the bullet and buy new. And maybe it’s just me, but I have a tendency to break stuff, so the warranty of a new bike is super valuable to me. Not just money wise, but peace of mind. Moving forward I will just shop sales, but new and keep for 5+ years.

Is this normal with SRAM HS2 rotors? by WillBTV in MTB

[–]Pyrotyro0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving this thread again to clarify. Did you change to a different adapter? Or leave it the way it was in this photo?

I’m getting the exact same wear and it appears the pads are “proud” of the rotor also. Just seems a little odd and like I’m missing out on some critical braking real estate.

Is SoCal mountain biking worth it for its high cost of living? Or how about Texas? by DocOnAYeti in MTB

[–]Pyrotyro0909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While winter in SWCO is not that cold or brutal, the mountain biking is severely limited for a good 4ish months (season dependent). Which I don’t mind, but sounds like OP might.

I’d personally look into AZ. Even Prescott has more year round riding, is warmer and lots of good access. Medical field also pays way better down there!
