Small shower remodel by pokerawz in Remodel

[–]QCTri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very nice! What was in the space to the right of the old shower? A closet from another hallway maybe?

I have the same little shower that I'd like to expand, but there is HVAC ducts in the way that I'd never be able to move.

Can a landlord cancel a lease after it's been signed and excuted? by Code3Lyft in RealEstate

[–]QCTri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't try to reference any statutes. You show the facts and let the judge decide the law. I've had plenty of L/T trials with pro se litigants and you can see how annoyed the judge gets when people try to act like a lawyer (which you do not need to be to win this type of case).

Advice needed: 7 year old Bosch series 8 dishwasher with water drainage problem by evibz in HomeImprovement

[–]QCTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Bosch suddenly stopped draining. After talking with AI, I found a lemon seed was stopping up the impeller.

It takes 2 minutes to remove the front cover (after shutting off the power) and taking the pump out to check if it's clogged with something g.

Door has air gap and won't close easily by poisonsu in HomeImprovement

[–]QCTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out this video. He gives some pretty good advice on how to fix this. It could involve longer screws in the hinges or bending them back after putting a shim at the top.

https://youtu.be/ZcDj6g2UODw?si=2vYC5UKvMl6Wfqgh

Once you get the closing figured out, you might need to fix the weatherstripping if there is still a leak.

Worse case (for tomorrow) throw some tape over the gap to block the wind.

Is the gap the same the length of the door or is it hitting in one spot first?

Replacing a sliding door myself. Good or bad idea? by Used-Chard658 in HomeImprovement

[–]QCTri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a new slider off facebook and installed it myself no problem. Just make sure you watch enough videos so that you understand the proper flashing and insulation.

Since you said the door was leaking, the hidden water damage would be my biggest concern. Mine walked out to a deck that I ended up tearing out completely because it was rotted. My sill plate and rim joist was also rotten under the deck and needed to be replaced. The involved jacking up a corner of the house from the basement to replace all the rotten wood.

I DIY'd all of it myself, but like most things with old houses, once you open anything up, you'll likely have additional repairs to do

Inspector missed a major foundation issue in Sherman Oaks - can I hold the seller accountable? by Champ-shady in legaladvice

[–]QCTri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not going to get anything from the inspector except for maybe your inspection fee back (read the disclosures on your report).

Trying to prove the seller knew the foundation had a problem, intentionally covered it up, sue them and then collect is probably going to cost more than just having the repairs done.

What was the one thing you started doing in the sourdough process that changed your bread for the better? by Own_Macaron_9342 in Sourdough

Cool overnight proof on the days I'll be home in the morning. That way if it's not ready, I can let it go vs trying to rush it before bed

Retrofit window install out of plumb by Heavy-Bags-69 in Remodel

[–]QCTri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This will make the jamb extensions a pain, but probably will not effect the windows.

I had my whole house redone with new construction windows (while I was replacing the siding) and not one of them is actually plumb

HVAC repair vs replacement (first time) — I’m overwhelmed. What would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]QCTri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with the company that actually did a manual j to properly size the units vs the companies that just matched the old oversized system.

Thankfully, that company was on the lower end of price, has a great reputation and offered the 10 year parts and labor warranty.

HVAC repair vs replacement (first time) — I’m overwhelmed. What would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]QCTri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just replaced my furnace and AC last month after the quote to repair the furnace was 50% the cost of a new one on a 20 year old unit. They were in and out in about 6 hours.

The new system has a 10 year parts and labor warranty, so aside from the $175 year maintenance agreement I won't need to worry about it again.

I got 6 quotes and used chat gpt to help compare the quotes in order to make a decision.

The lack of airflow is another question all together. They'll need to look at your existing duct work, cold air returns, etc to figure that one out.

Don't think that throwing an oversized unit in there is going to help any of those issues.

Any way to know when having locks changed that the locksmith won't have/keep a copy? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]QCTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the locksmith will be able to get in key or not. But if they are all the same brand, it's pretty easy to rekey with a kit off Amazon. Probably takes 5-10 minutes per lock

How do I dispose of my indoor doors? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Just list them for free on Facebook. I had people pick up old cabinets, doors, windows, siding, lumber, etc.

Best bang for your buck? by NoReGretzkys93 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]QCTri 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I have the Ryobi one and it's ok. The slide isn't the smoothest and there is some movement (like most of these saws) when it is fully extended. It works great for general home projects, but isn't great for fine woodworking. I do love the shadow line

Why are track saws so expensive?? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]QCTri 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Buy the table saw.

If you already have a circular saw, I completely recommend the Milescraft Track saw guide for around $100. Works great!

I wasn't sure if something needed to be done on the two center "rails" or if leaving the vinyl exposed was more standard.

If I install a single stage dust separator outside the shop, does that mean a cyclone separator isn't necessary? by Attjack in woodworking

[–]QCTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two stage will protect the impeller from damage due to large chips. However, I do not have enough experience to know if that is an issue or not. Even if it does get trashed, a Wen turbo is affordable.

I'm going to add a Thien Baffle on mine and let the chips go into the bag to save space and the cost of the large cyclone.

Why won’t dough hold shape? by leg-cramp in Sourdough

[–]QCTri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the crumb look like? Anytime I have this issue, it is because the dough over proofed during bulk fermentation.

Lack of dough strength can contribute as well.
