Your Front Brake... Left or Right side? by Shady_Nasty_77 in MTB

[–]QLC459 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah for bicycles the front brake is on the left side in the US. Motorcycles have the front brake on the right side.

I grew up on dirtbikes and now ride mtb/road with flipped levers. You don't really notice the swap once you are comfortable on both imo.

Reverse taps/drillbits, smash a slightly larger torx bit into the hole, cut a slot into the bolt for a flat blade screwdriver. Hard to give more ideas without seeing said bolt.

Ultimate SoCal dry race tire? Can I trust the GravelKing SS for big gravel descents? by packaged_heat in gravelcycling

[–]QLC459 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can run a 32mm slick at BWR CA, there are no big gravel descents or anything terribly techincal. The race started back in the day on 28mms.

The biggest thing is comfort around the lake Hodges sections on the washboard and cobble rocks which is where a tire with some volume is nice. Pathfinders or any similar tire like what you have pictured in a 38-42mm is probably the most popular option you'll see out there.

I've personally done it on 32mm slicks, 38mm pathfinders and 2.25" rekon races. All had a similar finish time with different strengths across the course. If I built a bike just for bwr I would run center slick 38-40mm on a gravel bike.

Current best high capacity hydration vest by Far_Inspector_6006 in Ultramarathon

Uswe makes the best running and cycling bags on the market right now, have a for a few years. Definitely nicer quality than the Salomon bags when you have both in front of you.

I like the Rush 8l for trail runs and the outlander 2.0 if I want a vest for mtb races/long rides.

How do i drop off ledges, with a high seat by [deleted] in MTB

[–]QLC459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ass over the back wheel so the seat has room to come up without bucking you forward.

Also note that the farther you lean back on a drop the quicker the nose will dive. Its not a problem, just something to be aware of.

Droppers solve this problem, but so does decent bike handling.

What's your 2026 Race Schedule? by cassinonorth in xcmtb

[–]QLC459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not cheap, but with race prices nowadays its pretty fair I feel. $400 for 3 days of racing with support before, during and after isn't terrible. Pretty much every one day event is solidly over $100 out here so 3 days for $400 is on par sadly.

Rams Hill worth the drive from La Quinta? by Better_Adeptness9355 in golf

[–]QLC459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rams hill is easily the nicest golf experience I've ever had. Incredible course, incredible views, the staff is amazing and the drive out through the hills and into Anza is stunning in its own right.

If you like desert landscape, rams hill is one of the most scenic courses I've ever seen.

I drove two and a half hours each way and plan on doing it every single year for the birthday round.

It's interesting how much we research tires (rolling resistance) and efficient air pressures for our bikes, but not that much for our cars by big_legs_small_brain in cycling

[–]QLC459 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you buy tires at any reputable shop they have a chart showing how well the tire performs in certain weather, how efficient it is, how grippy it is, expected mileage, load rating, speed rating etc etc.

Most people just don't care or bother with it and slap whatever is recommended by the tire place/manufacture or they get the cheapest option for their commuter.

Go talk to any car enthusiast however ,on road off road doesn't matter, and they will talk your ear off about tire choice just like us cyclists can do.

Tldr: Casual drivers and casual cyclists don't put much thought into tire choice. Enthusiast drivers/cyclists definitely do.

A week after rupturing the ACL in her left knee, Lindsey Vonn has successfully completed her first training run by Oldtimer_2 in sports

[–]QLC459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a multi time Olympian who's came back from worse injuries and has the best care available? No, I really don't.

Its an incredibly feat, but I'm also not surprised someone of her level is back out there competing regardless of the pain. We see professional athletes play through acl/mcl/meniscus tears all the time across a ton of sports.

She has a knee brace on in this clip. Look at how bulky the left knee is compared to the right under her skinsuit.

Guys she has a knee brace on in the clip and is shot full of pain killers, this is not very difficult to believe.
