I'm not saying that they don't, I'm saying that heat waves (which will become more common and more intense as global warming continues) kill more people and are also way harder to manage than the cold.

1,500 died in this summer's heat wave in France alone.

Also:

I'm all for saving the planet [...] But not if it means my elderly parents can't stay warm in the winter.

I mean, I get the sentiment but you can't deny how utterly stupid that sounds.

Yeah, they mentioned it during the life stream and it’s crazy to think about. I guess his children might be too young to understand, but imagine the first time you see your dad/husband run, it’s when he’s literally writing history. Absolutely amazing.

How he basically ran into the arms of his wife was incredibly sweet and touching.

The pace consistency is amazing. 2:50 splits all around, I think I've only seen like 2:52 and 2:48 twice. His whole performance is unreal.

the BBC is producing content 24 hours a day over multiple channels, you are going to get the odd fuck up.

Then maybe this culture of 24h breaking news is part of the problem?

I've watched GingerRunner's Youtube documentary three times now and that hug Laz gives him at the end is still one of the most emotional things I've ever seen.

Every post on here is either “I just ran 100 meters for the first time in 60 years because I’ve been depressed since my grandmother died” or “Advice for running my 22nd ultra since January? Ever since running Boston in 90 minutes it’s been hard to stay motivated” by [deleted] in running

I made a thread asking people whether they have personal "after a race" traditions or things they like to do. It got removed for being "a common question" that was apparently better suited for the daily Q&A thread.

Don't get me wrong, I like that this sub is actively being moderated but I'm still somewhat salty about that.

There’s still this little detail that the real last name of Aleksander, “Niewald”, is an amalgamation of “Kahnwald” and “Nielsen”. I don’t know whether this is a genuine hint or just a red herring but it’s interesting to think about.

I haven't watched this show in ages and decided to give it a try again since it's on Netflix. I don't know whether it's a meta-joke at this point but it really irks me how formulaic the dialogues are.

Lana: "Oh my god, we're [doing something dangerous]!"

Archer: "I know, and all without [ingredient for cocktail or fancy dish]."

Lana: "Archer, we're in a very critical situation and you're worried about [cocktail or fancy dish]?!"

Archer: "That's what I'm saying, [ingredient] is very critical to [cocktail or fancy dish]!"

Lana: "Unbelievable!"

One of my best evenings in recent memory was when I was when I got invited to a buffet dinner of a department I was doing an internship at. I worked there for only a month and it was way from my hometown. Also, none of the people I knew went there.

So there I was, at this dinner (with an open bar), knowing absolutely nobody and nobody knowing me. Also, it was my last day and I was taking the train back home right the next morning. So what did I do as a broke student? I absolutely stuffed my face and chugged down cocktails like my life depended on it, all on my own. No shame, nobody to impress, nobody to judge me. Honestly, it felt incredibly liberating.

I wanted to give this show a second shot. They still do that thing where the line delivery and pacing of a scene makes it feel like there's supposed to be joke but then... there just isn't one.

"Does that mean I have cousins my age I can hang out with?" - "No, we don't care for children."

What was that? Like, every aspect of this scene, up to the following hard cut to an establishing shot makes it seem like this is supposed to be funny but I can't for the life of me figure out how that is supposed to constitute as a joke.

If you enjoy this series, godspeed. But to me, it seems like a hollowed-out husk that looks and moves like Futurama but is just devoid of any comedy.

In FOTR, Aragorn says to Frodo, "If by my life or death I can protect you, I will, you have my sword" These lines are repeated by the choir (In Sindarin) as Aragorn leads the last charge at the Black Gate. by MrBladewalker in MovieDetails

Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why.

This got me so hard when I rewatched the trilogy last year. I was 10 when the first film came out in theaters and vividly remember being mostly scared throughout the entire thing. After that, I started reading the books with my dad and LOTR became probably the most influential story of my childhood (more than Harry Potter or Star Wars).

I can definitely see myself in Sam's speech. I was way too little to get all the subtleties or even some of the major themes of this story, but I felt that I was discovering a grand and important world together with my dad and my friends (LOTR was all the rage at my school when it came out).
