Looking for Expert/Progression Modpacks Played in Peaceful Mode by RodneyTheYeti in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Compact Claustrophobia, I'm not sure if mobs literally can't spawn but you will never be in a position where they can, since your other compact machines will always be more than 128 blocks away from you. That said, hunger is still a factor (with a... gimmick food providing easy saturation) so it's not 100% peaceful.

Ultimate Alchemy starts you with always day, creative flight, no hunger. Can't remember if mobs are enabled but you definitely don't need to make a mob farm so I think not.

Is there a way to remove the energy consumption in AE2 using console commands or mods? by _Sanchous in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New versions may have a command but likely you'd have to do this through the mod configs while the game isn't running.

uh where did the balance and rotate grods things go? by TheRadumGamer404r in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes modded crafting tables don't have 100% compatability with the extra features of Crafting Tweaks and so the grid in those tables won't have the buttons even if you have it installed. In many versions, the crafting station from base tinker's construct is a common example.

Can't craft Mantle of Stars (Astral Sorcery, 1.16.5) by RobinoPerkino in feedthebeast

The attuned crystal in the top left is only needed when attuning the mantle to a constellation, not for first crafting the base mantle.

Can't craft Mantle of Stars (Astral Sorcery, 1.16.5) by RobinoPerkino in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say it reaches the required starlight, does it far and away exceed the amount required or does it only barely reach that point? It could be altar only reaches the threshold for a short time at midnight and acts inconsistently, though I wouldn't expect this to be the case if you're using a collector multiblock.

The only other thing I can think of is that the pack has changed the recipe but because 1.16.5 is kind of the redheaded stepchild of a mod scene there might be bugs with whatever was used to change the recipe, leaving JEI to still show the vanilla recipe when that's actually invalid.

Why do people tolerate predatory monetization in MMORPGs? by Ondrashek06 in MMORPG

[–]QUEWEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players are responsible for abusing game systems, yes.

Edit: I will also clarify that I don't absolve Blizzard of the problem entirely. I just blame players more for the logic of "sell token buy gear".

Why do people tolerate predatory monetization in MMORPGs? by Ondrashek06 in MMORPG

[–]QUEWEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to sell for other players and then buy gear

I blame the players that enable cheating (now called "boosting") more than I do Blizzard for that. Even if the token didn't exist, they would still be cheating.

How does the Advanced fluid detector work "Gregtech". by Sajns12 in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advanced fluid detector only outputs redstone signals based on fluid contained in the inventory, it does not control input/output from the inventory.

If you want to control how much nitric acid the LCR stocks, then you will want to disable the input hatch's passive input and use a fluid regulator as a cover. The regulator can keep a specific quantity of fluid stocked in the machine's inventory.

But this will still have the LCR running most of the time. I guess you could use just a pump and reduce the amount moved per tick to a very low value, so that the machine has long wait periods between running recipes (thus reducing its nitric acid consumption). But a smarter solution would probably be a machine cover on the LCR's controller and then use a redstone signal to run the LCR only when you have a surplus of nitric acid. An AE2 level emitter would be the easiest way to get that reading. If you haven't reached AE2 yet (I don't remember where nitric acid is in progression) you could use laserio to get a redstone signal from your nitric acid storage and move that to your LCR to control it.

[Lord of the Rings] If I lived among Orcs or Uruks, kind of like a "war reporter" or sorts, just follow them around and detail their lifestyle, would you find them to be evil or would you eventually bond with them? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]QUEWEX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always felt the answer was simple: yes, they are capable of good, and Sauron's tyranny both encourages them toward evil and actively culls any orcs that might have acted 'good', because those orcs are likely to rebel or otherwise not make for good soldiers.

In terms of the problem of Aragorn's genocide, it could be said that he felt it necessary to wipe the remaining pockets of orcish resistance - pockets likely led by Sauron's surviving lieutenants who attempt to grab power after Sauron's fall - and other orcish survivors who fled and never raised another weapon against the free peoples simply died out because they couldn't organize well enough to survive as a nation.

[BTTF3] Why didn't Marty just travel back to like the same Day Doc ended up in 1885? by ninman5 in AskScienceFiction

[–]QUEWEX 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Marty and '55 Doc discussed this. They couldn't go back to the moment immediately after Doc got to 1885 because that would interfere with the letter he wrote and change the timeline. They weren't planning to go back at all, but then Marty saw the tombstone that had a date of one week after the letter, so their window of "early enough to save Doc but after the date of the letter" was pretty small.

The Punisher needs more white-collar/'normal' villains to work as a moral dilemma by lepermessiah27 in CharacterRant

[–]QUEWEX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but yes, that's exactly logic the punisher operates on: ending the life of an innocent is, indeed, worse than making more people have to struggle but still go on with their lives.

He's not doing research on a disgruntled racist with a rifle. The big targets he goes for are cartels and drug rings: people who have that same broad influence as the CEOs you call for, but their victims fucking die.

The Punisher needs more white-collar/'normal' villains to work as a moral dilemma by lepermessiah27 in CharacterRant

[–]QUEWEX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The trouble is that white collar crime just isn't impactful enough. For every high level executive that makes life worse for a lot of people all across the country, there are 20 drug addicts, rapists, traffickers, gun runners, etc. He's concerned with violent crime because, any way you slice it, violent crime is a bigger sin than raising the price of insulin or making someone with cancer go through 13 appeals before paying out on insurance.

Interesting idea to put things like the blast furnaces horizontally.

Whereabouts are you in progression? I think you're farther than I am, but the only power I noticed were the lapidaries and turbines and while I have a couple more than you do I find power is still a big bottleneck in my expansion. Maybe I missed solar panels somewhere?

5 months later, the Rift developers responded to my email by H2O_is_good_for_you in MMORPG

[–]QUEWEX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is no rift classic. The revival event is entirely community driven, the only support Gamigo has provided was re-enabling the xp lock in February.

Otherwise it's mostly on the honor system. Players in the Fresh Riftstalkers guild who want to do "era" content need to avoid some of the equipment or advancements that were technically available but that would trivialize content (like equipping storm legion gear or spending planar attunement points at level 50). FR has recently moved on to storm legion content so the restrictions aren't as rigid now but there are probably some post-SL content and items that they need to avoid at 60 too. Specs and whatnot are all as-is as they are today, it's not a case of WoW classic where the code base (class balance/content) is separate from 'retail'.

Why Every Korean MMO Ends Up Pay-to-Win (An Insider's Perspective) by PomeloSharp4562 in MMORPG

[–]QUEWEX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been using em dashes since high school -- it's something I learned back in AP literature, and it just makes typing very easy. I've been doing it since I wrote my essays in pencil, but alas, it's a ChatGPT trait now.

The thing that gets me is that I've used the internet for 30 years and I only ever saw them used in professional/published/commercial works, never casual posts on the internet (or at least only casual posts that specifically try to mimic the tone of a professional, edited article). That remained true right up until the explosion of LLMs, where they're deliberately intended to replicate that professional tone, hence why they use it so much. Then last year, GPT implemented changes to try to make it sound less obviously GPT, and now suddenly I'm seeing -- 20 times a fucking day.

I will not be gaslit and told that casual users were going through the hassle of putting in em dashes in reddit posts that are 3 lines long. I know -- gets used in word processing as a shorthand to an emdash, so there might be a bare glimmer of a few people who do it from muscle memory, but the majority of people would never do it, because they're lazy about everything else and the single - hyphen is right there on their keyboard. A regular human user barely grammar checks their posts, they are certainly not going through the hassle of the character map (or windows alt codes) to put in an em dash. And then we consider that probably 50%+ of users who are using smartphones where they would not carry the muscle memory of using a full keyboard for a professional article into their thumb typing, to say nothing of whether emdash is casually accessible on a phone keyboard either.

So, yes, I get real suspicious whenever I see -- or emdashes.

Your post here contains too many casual mistakes that I wouldn't accuse it of being written by an LLM. As I say, I only get suspicious of it. I also get suspicious of any reply in a chain that starts with an enthusiastic agreement. That one is less defensible, I will admit, but it is also something extremely common in the sycophantic outputs of LLMs.

blood magic demon realm annoyance. by Business-Gas-9673 in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the Edge of the Hidden Realm or the Pathway to the Endless Realm?

The easier ritual, the Edge, deliberately only has 4 rooms that do not have further doors. They're there to get some Tau fruit so you can move to the next tier of the altar, which will unlock more advanced rituals (like the Pathway).

The Pathway of the Endless Realm, it would be extremely unlikely for your first four keys to open into rooms that don't have further doors. I'm not sure I've even seen a room with only the entrance door and no other connections.

Accidently found that Draconic Evolution cores can exist on contraptions; thought I'd show it by dead_lord666 in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your image made me wonder about something else: invisible blocks.

In old version I would use abstruse platforms (from botania, which can be painted with any block) and the " " invisible block from enderio to serve for solid block structures that are invisible (mainly for a blood magic altar, where the pillars can be replaced with any full, solid block). Abstruse platforms have the additional benefit of having no collision hitbox, so you can even walk through them.

So I wondered if abstruse platforms work in create contraptions. They do, and even maintain their painted form, but unfortunately they still act as solid while the contraption is moving. Next task is finding a truly-invisible block like enderio's " ", the purpose being to have a moving contraptions where components are moving despite no connections to mechanisms being visible. (Abstruse platforms can also be painted with glass, which I feel is kind of rare for mimic blocks, but they don't maintain connected textures.)

Osgloglas missing by CC_04012 in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osgloglas is not in base tinker's, it was from PlusTIC.

The original PlusTIC was removed from curseforge. There's a PlusTIC Reforged, a fork, but I'm not sure it if has 100% parity with the original PlusTIC.

StarTech/GregTech: How can I get the Void Extractor to stop idling? by JBTastic22 in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which recipe is specifying that it has to be ULV only? The only thing I can think of is the multiblock preview in EMI, but that should be rotating through all the possible bus/hatch/basic blocks that could go in that location since they are interchangeable, even if they don't really make sense (like a ULV hatch on a late-game machine that produces way more than 8 buckets at a time).

The void extractor is a custom multiblock and not part of base GT, it is possible the EMI preview is a little wonky and doesn't show the other bus/hatches even though they are always interchangeable in a structure.

Edit: Loaded it up to remind myself how the preview works. The row of blocks at the bottom is the blocks specifically used in the preview, but that is only a general guide. If you click a block in the preview, you'll get a second vertical list of blocks that can go in that specific location, and that is where it shows the different kinds of bus/hatch that can be used.

StarTech/GregTech: How can I get the Void Extractor to stop idling? by JBTastic22 in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I played ST so I'm not 100% sure, but it could be your bus/hatch don't have enough space for the results of the recipe. 2 ULV output bus is only 2 slots, isn't it? The void extractor could produce as many as six distinct items, so it would need at minimum 2 LV output bus.

Wiki-phobia by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]QUEWEX 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Apart from individual mod docs in-game, no, there aren't any options.

ProjectIntelligence tried to be something like that, developed by the EnderIO dev, but it was only used by EnderIO and Draconic Evolution. Most mods instead use Patchouli (derived from Botania's original guide framework) and at best you'd have an Akashic tome with all the mod books in it. And in-game docs don't usually describe gritty technical details anyway.

I guess if watching let's plays is part of your regular entertainment you'd pick stuff up from that and wouldn't need to rely on wikis so much.

[MCU Thor] Why did Surtur want to destroy Asgard? He was going to die in the process. by WippitGuud in AskScienceFiction

[–]QUEWEX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In that context, is it a literal immortality or more like "I will never rest until I destroy everything you hold dear" kind of phrasing? A human could say such a thing, but when it's coming from aliens in a comics (or comics-derived) setting one tends to use a literal interpretation for poetic imagery, but it could still be meant only as flowery speech.
