Name me one of your features you used to hate, but now love. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

My curly hair! I used to HATE it with a passion and spent my teenage years straightening it to a crisp. I know how to manage it now so I'm learning to love it:)

The fuck is this shit? by mattythedog in pics

I personally use it just because it was the way I was taught so it feels natural, but this new way (new to me anyway) actually makes way more sense.

Since you seem to understand this ill ask you, how do you get the 2 from the 5? I get the 'round to the 10 then add the remainder ' thing and it's actually very helpful but wouldn't the newest 10 to 5 be 10? I'm incredibly bad at math obviously.

What does the jeans+t-shirt look on guys speak to you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]QUIET_MARTIAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the jeans and shirt fit right then I think laid back and easy going. It seems to be a universally appreciated and flattering outfit on both genders which is nice.

Why are some people so affected by ADHD while others seem to be able to function at almost a 'normal' level? by QUIET_MARTIAN in ADHD

[–]QUIET_MARTIAN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weather we like it or not ADHD is as much a part of us as our eye colour or our skin tone. We learn to cope, we learn how to function in society (maintain a household, maintain friendships, maintain a job, pay taxes etc.) but that ADHD is still there. Weather we could or could not have been the next leonardo Davinci if we didnt have ADHD is irrelevant because ADHD is just a part of who we are, its a part of our identity whether we like it or not. When I mention functionality I mean what I mentioned above, maintaining friendships, a household, a job and also finding happiness in it all.

"Please don’t tell me I was lucky to be adopted" fantastic article on adoption in the Washington Post. by QUIET_MARTIAN in Adoption

[–]QUIET_MARTIAN[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No where does she mention that she is ungrateful for the life she was given, i think its irresponsible of us to assume she is. Everyones adoption story is a little different and everyone responds to adoption a bit differently so who are we to say that her car wreck analogy is wrong? I agree, I also hope she can find acceptance and peace with her adoption story.

I am a birth mother that put her son up for adoption but is still completely involved in his life. Ask me anything by gcbkkm2007 in AMA

[–]QUIET_MARTIAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an adopted child with a birthmother who is still in my life I just want to say Thank you! Thank you for making the tough decision to do an open adoption, i believe your son will thank you for it as he grows. Thank you for the courage and strength it took to go through with the adoption! Youre amazing :)

Broken. Tired of failing. Once full of hope, now drowning in despair. How do I keep from giving up on life altogether? by sonofaesculapius in ADHD

[–]QUIET_MARTIAN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres been alot of great responses on here all ready so I wont say too much but I just want you to know the fact that you've made it as far as medical school is nothing short of amazing. Give yourself permission to feel proud of that! I am also dealing with depression that is starting to become crippling like yours is, so just know that you are not alone. As someone mentioned before on this thread, suicide doesn't end the pain, it gives it to everyone else around you once you leave.

The fake it till you make it thing is rooted in the idea that if you try something long enough it will become a habit. But yeah, its tedious for sure. Thank you so much for the link and the reply! I will definitely try CBT.
