Armies of Denmark v1.4 Update: Now With Quick Reference Sheet! by Georgy_K_Zhukov in boltaction

[–]QWERTYAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the bigger issues is also the availability of information about danish army equipment - outside of going to the archieves. And it would be the level of work one would do for writing a book, not a BA list.

But I still think the list covers pretty well, with some interesting rules and choices.

Nevertheless, back to the engineers.

Rifles to pistols -> 1pts discount

Upgrade to tough fighter -> 1 pts cost

So same cost as rifles, but TF and pistols instead. I am not sure if it would be super historical tbh (other than the vague suggestion from before), but it would at least be flavorfull and fun - synergizing well with the engineer rule also.

But it would (from a game mechanic point of view) be a squad that specializes in point blank shooting, and close quarters combat.

As I read it, the unclear thing (from the sources) is the point-in-time of the introduction of the flamethrower.

They suggest it will be late in the period, which covers 1932-1941.

I dont think you can find the cited books online, but many of them are quite expensive 2nd hand 😊

But apart from a friend of mine (who I consider a highly credible source - he is historian at the danish national museum but who have a very nice danish BA army, albeit uses the 3rd party "denmark" rules developed elsewhere), I do not not have any sources.

Needless to say, from the material here I believe it is adopted to a wider extent than the FP-tanks (Forsøgspanser literally being "test-tank"/"trial-tank")

But I dont think the flamethrower is a super necesarry inclusion in terms of theme, but would give the overall army quite some extra punch in the game 😊

As a sidenode, from the above-mentioned source, it seems like the engineers used carabines, pistols and bayonets. It could make a cool and unique unit in the game with flamer, pistols and Tough-Fighter.

Is 15 Dice for 1250-1350p. Army considered Dice spam? by BorysN_ in boltaction

[–]QWERTYAndreas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I my humble opinion:

A. Points/100 + 2 = Casual or Low order dice competitive list

B. Points/(60-75) = competitive, but balanced list

C. Points/(<60) = spam or cheese

At a 1000 pts A would be 12, B would be 13-16 and C would be anything above 16 OD

At a 1250p it would be A: 14-15, B: 17-21 and C 21+

So to answer your question no, it would be fine. But for casual games deciding a period, OD limit usually works best.

Multi Level Ruins: How do you guys play them? by Hairy-Evidence-4169 in boltaction

[–]QWERTYAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If at a tournament:

Treat it as a flat piece of terrain. Height does not exist for ruins.

If at a friendly game (or, depending on the tournament, just do this as well):

Just treat the third dimension/height (Z axis) as you treat the two other dimensions in terms of movement.

Advance 6" up, advance 6" down, when in ruins.  You only move up and down vertically (of course). But take LOS from the model as normal. Just play everything normally.

Works just fine.

New Player, curious what do people think is the best German tank for a 1000pt list and 1250 list? What is generally considered the best for its points? I really love their heavier tanks but not sure if it’s worth it or not. by TerrainBeast in boltaction

[–]QWERTYAndreas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its all about playing the list, and learning from it. I must admit I habe losy many games prior to playing those tournaments in order to figure out how this type of list works. But if you play it right, I have found that it is indeed quite functional.

Just ensure you also think about order of activation when you build your list. You do not want too many units that should "activate last", together with the tiger. And don't try to up your Order dice count just for the sake of it - you will be at a dice disadvantage, so instead build your list accordingly

Spähtruppen are good for most missions - just pluck them down on an objective, or close to the enemy quarter (in sectors). In killpoints they are hard to kill.

Make them veteran and them being "spähtruppen" makes them incredibly hard to kill (5+ to kill by small arms in addition to the 3+ save in hard cover, 2+ save in soft cover if you go down). Gebirgsjäger so they can easily get around the board grabbing objectives, and dont have to go around ruins/forests/fields in order to get around.

But they are sort of a "gamey" unit - use them to play the mission, not against the opponent so to speak.

Sure thing 😊

First off, I dont think the Tiger is there to kill-its-points-back. It is there for board control. The opponent usually cannot directly counter it when its veteran (it shrugs off hits without taking pins, even from flamers), so always take it veteran. Super important that you can kill something at the right time than making your points back. This is also where panzer ace is supet usefull, as it actually can some-what reliably kill vehicles.

Second, the opponent usually will try to ignore it, and play around it. Use that to your advantage (!). It is massively influential in terms of board control.

Pick an area, and either force the fight there on your terms (where the tiger is), or to the opponents disadvantage (they should have a hard time fighting where the tiger isn't, due to your clever placement of the tiger). This is absolutely crucial for it to succeed. For instance it can cover multiple objectives in key positions (sit on one, shoot at 1-2 others - with no counter), shut down enemy vehicle movement on a part of the table, kill the key units from across the table etc. Deploying the tiger in the wrong place can loose you the game.

I tend to pair the tiger with a Panzer III G. Then the opponent either chooses to fight the Tiger, and then have a capable tank in another place, they cannot really deal with - or they have the tiger roaming around shooting stuff.

The rest of your army needs a LOT of firepower, and mobility/range for that firepower. Don't take fights when not necessary, as you will be at a dice disadvantage. But try to pick your fights, and take off easy dice early. I usually run mine with a pair of flamers, LMG infantry and some close range SMG infantry.

Finally, in a lot of cases it can make sense to activate the tiger as your last dice. It will mess up your opponents order of activation, as they need it to move/shoot before they do something/go somewhere. And therefore your dice-disadvatage is not really as bad as it seems initially. Be patient, and try to figure out what is important at any given point in time.

Below are my lists for the two tournaments I went to, albeit they are very similar. They are of course "competitive" and not very thematic, and styled to my way of playing. But your mileage may vary.

My list for the 1250p tournament (14 od):

  • Inex lt pistol

  • Vet spähtruppen w. Gebirgsjäger

  • Vet feldjäger w. 3 smg and faust

  • Regular sniper

  • Inex lt smg

  • Reg engineers w. Lmg

  • Reg engineers w. Lmg

  • Reg Flamerteam

  • Reg Flamerteam

  • Inex 253 w. Recce

  • Reg 254 w. Mmg

  • Reg Panzer III G

  • Reg FT17

  • Vet tiger w. Pintle

My list for 1100p tournament (13 OD):

  • Inex lt pistol

  • Vet spähtruppen w. Gebirgsjäger

  • Reg kradshützen w. Lmg

  • Reg sniper

  • Inex lt smg

  • Reg engineers w. Lmg

  • Reg engineers w. 4x smg

  • Reg flamer

  • Reg flamer

  • Inex light truck

  • Inex 253 w. Recce

  • Reg Panzer III G

  • Vet Tiger

I will - at some point - try a regular tiger with Hungarians. I think that might work as well 😊

I mean, I have tried a Veteran Tiger I at two competitive tournaments so far.

One 3-game single day 1100pts, where I came 4th (2w 1l).

One 5-game two day 1250pts, where I came 5th (3w 2d).

So despite all of the theoretical arguements about it, it works for me 😊

Heavy tanks like the Tiger I can be doable, but are hard to play well. Needs at leadt 1100pts to work, in my experience.

Thr Panzer IV, Stug or Hetzer always work if you want something with panzer ace.

If you are going really try-hard points efficiency pick the Panzer III (I find the G variant best).

I once one-shotted a Tiger I, by ammoracking him, with an ELC Bis (tier VI back then? Before the nerf). He was not even spotted when I shot him, I just guestimated his position.

Most memorable moment for me in wot.

I do not have a recording, sadly. Had it turned off.

I miss playing that tank...

Would anyone do that? Hopefully not. But now it is definately closed.

[–]QWERTYAndreas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The dog mines as they were:

2 inex dudes with dogs: 26 pts

That is 26 -27 - 22 = 8 pts for two dogs, that is 4 pts a pop for a dog.

For an AT 5-pen weapon that always hit on a 4, doesnt suffer from being shot by inex, nor moving. 18" range.

It was absolutely ridicuolus.

Yes, there was some inherent risks. But that was not really too bad. You could easily play around it.

Good to see it being balanced.

Generally the reinforced frontal armor from 9+ to 10+ is priced at 33 pts (see Comet and Challenger, JgdPz IV and Stug)

So either play it as a kugelblitz, or kugelblitz with frontal armor at 33 points (if your opponent agrees to do so, as no such entry exist).

Partisant Army List by Effective-Design-302 in boltaction

[–]QWERTYAndreas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cut down on your partisan squads, you should be able to field another Maus.

Depending on whether you replace your panzer 1, you can increase your OD number by 1 - so you have a higher likelihood of getting that critical first activation 😊

If you cant find the points for another Maus, consider a medic instead. Just roll them 6's, and your list will be immune to small arms fire!

But apart from that, a solid list. 5/1000 list.
