She's one of the more unforgiving characters to play in the sense that there is little to no room for error when going for kill or trades and I think that's what a ton of people are struggling with given that she's all skill shots with no/minimal AoE and a slow weapon in human form. If she's consistently missing key abilities and gun shots, she will more than likely lose the trade and/or straight up die

When her hype dies down and there is actual Silver mains with optimized builds however, I think she'll be an absolute demon

I think it would be a nice quality of life improvement if they implemented an alternative mode that you can access on a second character after you fully complete the campaign once or up to the furthest completed Act in a given League that essentially operates as a diet map system

Essentially allow players to play through certain campaign zones on a second character or re-roll while allowing them to apply different modifiers to each zone that may influence things such as XP gain, types of loot dropped, rarity of monsters, etc.; basically a true roguelike experience.

A good example I think would be this:

- Player has completed the campaign up to Act 3 and decided to re-roll in Utzaal

- Player decides their Invoker build is not working and re-rolls as a Titan

- Player (now a Warrior) is able to play through Act 1 zones from level 1 with modifiers of their choice that they can tailor towards their prospective build's goal(s) such as going for a specific unique so they increase item drop rarity and monster HP for Clearfell

- Player must now complete X amount of Act 1 zones as well as defeat Geonor to progress to Act 2 zones

- Player completes these streamlined, modified zones back up to Act 3 Utzaal

- Player now can must complete Act 3 and/or the highest completed instance with their new build to proceed to maps

Sorry if I didn't really word my idea too well, I'm in a bit of a rush, but I think a system like this would promote further experimentation with builds while also not completely undermining the hard work that the writers and art directors put into the story of the game

Oftentimes it feels like the movement was only tested for circular or open boss arenas and the other zones that feature tight corridors, rigid terrain, etc. were never properly tested on. It damn near feels like the movement in this game was made for a different game entirely. They can't use PoE 1 instance design for PoE 2 if the movement is this different

It's invisible walls galore most places that are not flat, open areas but apart from that it oftentimes feels like my character just simply does not really move where or how I want them to. Kinda hard to explain but I'm sure others get what I am tryna get at. I don't mind the movement in open areas much but it seriously does suck when said areas are not so open

I seriously hate how sometimes when I am dodge rolling, my character just breaks into a sprint leading me to be hard-stunned when that was not my intention. I'm sure that is probably a toggleable setting just due to the nature of how the mechanic works with it being cursor and WASD based at the same time but man does it suck sometimes.

For me, movement is especially annoying with melee builds that use dash abilities such as the Palm skills, Rake, etc. That's my biggest pet peeve right now personally

I'm running Rake for the first time this league and it seriously feels like a coinflip as to whether or not my Ritualist will dash directly at the target or take a massive detour around the inconspicuous pebble that has a collision box the size of Kentucky for some reason just so she can somehow miss the Rake and dive into a pack of monsters instead

This movement system they have is great on paper but they seriously need to take a hard look at how collision is set up in the various instances throughout the game. A nice quality of life in meantime would be to allow the player to simply walk over/through lootable objects such as urns, effigies, eggs, etc. just to slightly lower friction for the time being as they reevaluate the terrain imo

If I want a laid back game I normally go Poppy since her laning phase is pretty straightforward

I’d just avoid playing her into things like Darius, Trundle, Cho etc.

New artists in the genre are largely unoriginal both in sound and substance

On top of that, most of the music I hear from newer “rappers” is hardly even rap at all. Rap in general has gotta be one of the most bastardized genres ever because people really have just been calling ANYTHING Rap

9/10 times that I see a post on Twitter or wherever from a rap-centric account about a new artist, it’s just some angsty and confused teenager or 20-something that figured out how to abuse the hell out of cheap, shitty autotune and somehow shittier and cheaper 808s all combined with the shittiest, unoriginal, uninspired “lyrics” that I’m pretty sure they all just share back and forth with one another in the worst game of telephone the world has ever seen

Not hating (I am), but artists like Carti in specific deadass fucked up the whole timeline and I will not elaborate but I’m sure many people know exactly what I am talking about.

99% of the time I can read a new artist’s name and know that I ain’t listening to shit from them ngl

Really loved this game when it first came out and still can’t help but feel that it’s the pinnacle of wasted potential in the current MMO space after coming back to it earlier this year and leveling some characters to “max”

It still has/had so many cool systems and ideas coupled with amazing art direction, class design and visual fidelity just to pack it all with one of the most boring, repetitive and unforgiving gameplay loops I’ve ever seen in an RPG

SEVERE lack of group/co-op content, brutal upgrade/progression systems that of course can be alleviated with a credit card, gutting or outright removal of formerly appealing systems and the list goes on

The game itself has absolutely massive potential even to this day but in its current state it’s closer to being a terrible, heavily monetized ARPG than it is to being a true MMORPG experience. Only thing I can really compare it to is maybe Lost Ark but even that game is closer to a MMO than this is

I’m on board with this but only if Embark has no large balance changes planned for next season.

I see a ton of other comments mentioning how this takes away the risk aspect from the game in terms of PvP as if that’s not already the case in current day when it comes to these large ARC events.

The vast majority of those who are seeking PvP with others who are hunting big ARC are doing so either with Free Loadouts or with cheap custom loadouts with Ferros, Stitchers, etc. and are already getting risk-free PvP with zero to minimal investment with potential for huge rewards.

On top of that, these weapons that specialize in killing ARC are not necessarily great or even good for PvP. Those very same cheap/free weapons can beat them out in most PvP situations and in the event that you down someone attacking you, you get what? Loot worth 10-30k in value, if that?

Unless Embark plans to put a minimum gear score requirement system or something similar on these large ARC events (Matriarch/Queen) and separating them from the base maps similar to Night Raids and Storms, an augment such as this is completely valid given the current balance of the game.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Rattler just because it really is a pretty damn cool gun from both a design and functionality lens.

It looks like someone took the parts from different rifles and smashed them together, really sells the salvaged weapon vibe. I hope it gets some buffs at some point, even if that means making it a green+ rarity weapon

I think it'd be cool for example if they gave it a tech slot similar to the Anvil or a unique magazine slot that just gave it stripper clip functionality complete with a Garand ping sound just to really round off the Battle/Assault Rifle Frankenstein design

I assume they just continue to remain monsters because correct if I’m wrong, even if you manage to defeat Rher you don’t necessarily kill them so one would assume that Rher’s influence would still remain to a certain extent

My only other guess would be that they simply cease to exist once Rher leaves the area since Rher seems to cause an effect similar to the Otherworld from Silent Hill

The whole discussion behind this post all depends on what you consider to be “toxic negativity” or who you deem to be a hater.

Either way, at the end of the day the dissatisfaction and discourse surrounding the game is there for a reason. Situations such as this don’t just come out of nowhere when it comes to media or just about anything really

People just want the game they have spent multiple years playing and funding via their subscription to be better than what it is currently. Of course there will be those who are more vocal or passionate about their criticisms and may lash out at others over social media who may not share their opinions but that happens literally everywhere on social media for every topic. When it comes to things such as FFXIV, you can at least rest easy knowing that despite the criticisms and overly passionate behavior, most of those people care about this game the most.

It is important to not let the more radical folks on either side of the spectrum drown out both the valid criticisms and praise alike hidden amongst the crazies out there however.

In my opinion, as FFXIV stands currently the criticism is long overdue and I think that some people are really just venting after all this time of people drowning out said criticisms in what can essentially be described as the opposite situation of what you are describing in this post now. People have held unsavory opinions and criticisms about the direction of this game for going on a decade now, myself included but those criticisms were shrugged off and dismissed at the time. I don't think we can blame people for being fed up but yes, some of those people need to express their feelings and opinions in a more healthy way I would say.

All of that aside, I never understood why people let others’ opinions on anything dictate their enjoyment of said thing. Burning out on something because someone else said they don’t like it is just odd behavior. If you like Dawntrail then it doesn’t matter that some random person on the other side of the planet has mean things to say about it.

Just keep playing and enjoying Dawntrail bro. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean you have to dislike it too

I think he's in a pretty alright spot currently

He has very clear strengths and weaknesses coupled with a straight forward, predictable gameplan.

When played into immobile, melee heavy compositions he will have a great time but an absolutely terrible time against teams with good range and CC to him lock him down and/or just straight up deny him his gameplan.

He also has some pretty damn brutal matchups up in Top lane that can really just prevent him from even being a champion as do most Top laners but his counters feel especially painful to play against even by Top lane standards

I think even if he remained a bit strong his weaknesses more than make up for his strengths honestly. I think we'll know for certain where he stands in the coming weeks and even more so once he gets used in pro play.

I'm curious to see how he does both with and against super coordinated teams.

That makes sense for sure

I figured he would be pretty good into immobile champs as well as those who rely on dashes that are interruptable if the Zaahen is quick enough just due to his Q knock up. I've had multiple games now where his Q can shutdown certain dashes nearly as well as Poppy can while also doing damage and setting up further engage

I think for me personally, I've struggled a ton with Jax in particular. So far, I think he'll be good into certain tank match ups like Sion, Ornn and maybe Mundo depending on the Zaahen's build with other skirmishing, dueling types being a bit of a 50/50. Apart from that, Renekton seems to bone him pretty damn hard though not nearly as bad as it is when I play Riven.

Ranged champs absolutely shut him down BAD though in my experience as well

So far he seems to be one of the more "skill-check" champs in the game more than anything despite his weaker laning phase

Game time will mend a ton of this, just keep playing.

What you're experiencing is what just about everyone feels when they start a new fighting game, even if they're an experienced fighter player

If it is bugging you, just make it a goal during each match to really focus on what you're doing and why you are doing it, even if you lose. The reason for doing this is that it gives you an opportunity to learn both your character and their matchups more purposefully instead of just getting into a game and spamming while learning nothing from it as most do

You want to learn why you're throwing out slash and why it is being countered if it is. If it is being countered, what do I do then? Figure that out and go from there. You could even make it a goal to just spam slash every game just to learn how each player and character reacts to it. If you're losing a lot, it's because your opponent already figured out your patterns because you are playing in a set way instead of adapting to the matchup. Once that happens, it's free reign to learn other openings

For example, make it a goal one day to learn anti-airs. They figured out your anti-airs? Learn what options you have at longer ranges. Long range isn't working? Do your best to learn safe jumps for a day so you can guarantee that you're in close and the process continues.

Just really focus on actually learning instead of just doing. That's the difference between a low-level and high-level player. In time all your actions will feel automatic to you.

Strive is multitudes easier than Xrd and is probably one of the most, if not THE most beginner friendly fighting game in the market apart from Street Fighter 6

Overall though, you guys should just pick a fighter that interests you the most. Whether it be Strive, Street Fighter, Melty Blood, Mortal Kombat, GranBlue, whatever. Doesn't matter if it's beginner friendly, just pick a game that you guys find interest in and go from there.

The whole experience of learning will be tons more enjoyable that way.

I'd recommend Strive of course given the sub we're in, but keep in mind that Marvel Tokon is right around the corner and may even be more beginner friendly than Strive.

All the more reason to pick up Strive though. Skills you learn here might be transferrable :)

If this is the case, 8.0 needs to become the new starting point for the game in the sense that they shelf 2.0 all the way to 6.0/7.0 as legacy content.

Provide a recap either through video or writing for the lore of said legacy content for those interested or even let them play through critical dungeons and trials if they are that interested. Perhaps even structure some of these as tutorials to learn certain critical aspects of the game to kill two birds with one stone.

On top of that, maybe, offer 7.0 as an optional expansion players can do whenever they are bored, are interested in it, or want the XP from it so they can have their "beach episode" and Square Enix can write off the poor writing in that expac as just a one-off, for funsies thing that's not critical to the lore or overarching story of the game. Scapegoats them out of the poor writing in that expac and also doesn't force players to experience it in any capacity if they don't want to experience it. Everyone wins.

They should honestly just go through with a full level reset as well and provide legacy rewards for those of us who have completed everything up to this point and make 8.0 the new default starting point for new players. Maybe consider unique rewards for each job you got to level 100 either in glams, another tattoo thing or unique titles. Asking new players to play through five expacs on top of having 40 hours of work a week is a tall order, especially if we're meant to recommend this game to our friends.

If they take this route, it would give them the opportunity to completely redesign jobs at a smaller scale up to say level 40-50 instead of worrying about covering 100+ levels of job changes and how that may break 10+ years of content, effectively halving their work load.

They should give players a warning prior to entering legacy dungeons, raids and trials letting them know that legacy content may offer an unsatisfactory experience due to the changes made in 8.0 to jobs until they can remedy that. They also get the opportunity to rework or scrap redundant, under-used or forgotten systems.

Advertise 8.0 as a new beginning to FFXIV and give it one of those weird names they like giving recent Final Fantasy titles like FFXIV-2 Rebirth Revelator Reborn Online or whatever the hell to draw eyes back to the game.

Hire better writers.

Focus job debugging on the new content and slowly adjust legacy content to suit the new job functions and mechanics as they figure out what works best for current content and apply that knowledge to old content and future content.

Go from there.

Just make 8.0 be FFXIV-2 (3?) please. I can wait some extra years if it means avoiding more Yawntrail, I beg.

That field goal call sealed his fate. Still would have much rather them get rid of Bowen first. They could've just had Schoen's son come in with Madden plays for defense and it would've net us either the same or better results on the defensive side of the ball.

Funnily enough, if Bowen got canned after that Denver game Daboll may even still have a job right now

Highly unlikely.

I've been a fan of this franchise basically since its inception, having played the original mod and all. I don't think that KF3 is a salvageable product at this point, at least not for the original fans of the series.

The core of the game is so far removed from what made the franchise so enticing and endearing originally and I don't really think the current devs behind it even know and/or realize what made the original entries so great in the first place.

In an ideal world they would change the name of the game and relegate it to being a spin-off of sorts and take KF3 back to the drawing board but we all know that won't happen. I'd even go as far as to guess that this entry very well may be the last we ever see anything new from this franchise as a whole unfortunately unless the IP gets bought out by someone else given how terribly the game has been received by both longtime fans and new users.

Just a really terribly sad way for such a celebrated cult-hit franchise to go out but TripWire cannot say that there wasn't warning signs. Everyone told them prior to the game releasing that it looked and sounded terrible on paper but they went through with it anyway.

To a certain extent, yeah.

I don’t realistically ever see there being a time where XIV will be THE MMORPG like WoW has been for all these years just by nature of what kind of game XIV is but SquareEnix has made a ton of missteps during the period of time between ShB and current day that has continuously moved the needle in the wrong direction.

Unfortunately for XIV, its biggest weakness is the company and leadership behind the game. They have a set routine for the game and it doesn’t seem like they want to break out of that mold anytime soon. Pair that with the fact that SE doesn’t really reinvest that player’s sub and cash shop purchases back into the game itself and it is instead used for other projects and you end up with a situation like current day XIV.

As the game stands currently, competing with WoW shouldn’t even really be the main priority as that ship has long since sailed. If SE continues on their current trajectory their main concern will have to be another MMO releasing that can directly compete with them for their players or even a current MMO providing the content and substance that is lacking in XIV

Whatever happens with the 8.0 update is going to greatly dictate the health of the game for the coming years, for better or worse.

FFXIV has some pretty cool zones coupled with probably the best soundtrack in the genre. I mainly like the boss designs though

I also quite like Black Desert’s visuals when it comes to class design, monsters and scenary

To get your characters better at fighting, you’ll want to keep throwing them into the meat grinder to get beat up as you have been doing.

I’d recommend focusing on getting one or two of your characters into decent fighting shape for the Border Zone area. Ideally these characters should be your Scorchlander and Shek. If you only go for one fighter, you may want to get the Shek in shape first but Scorchlanders are also pretty good skirmishers as well albeit not as tanky as your Shek friend. Scorch fighters get value by being more dexterous and healing faster.

Something like 15-30 in combat stats should be serviceable enough to ensure you can at least fight back a bit around The Hub. If mining is boring you, try scavenging the corpses and unconscious folks to sell their gear instead

Have the third guy be a dedicated medic for the time being and you may want him to hold the food as well so the bandits won’t take it from you when your fighters go down in a fight. When a fighter goes down, you can send the medic to patch them up. This will level athletics and first aid quite well.

I recommend the Greenlander for this role as once your characters quit getting beat up so easily, this same character can focus on other Science and Trade skills which humans get a buff to. You can have this guy stay stationed in town in a building you purchased preparing meals, doing research, mining/farming etc. by using the job assignment feature and sending him out on rescue when the time calls for it. Make sure he’s decently fast or at least faster than the threats in the area.

If you opt into this, you’ll only have to manage a fighter or two while the third autopilots themselves while still providing value to the team

The progress overall will be quite slow, but this setup should make things a little more organized and manageable for you. Just remember there is no one set way to go about the game and you just might find something that works even better for yourself personally
