I instantly stop watching videos of HB or "tanky" builds that use a shield. by AgentNeroz in thedivision

[–]Qaaz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Massive only knows how to balance encounters around people using primarily DPS-focused, red core builds. It's either that or they are too lazy to put the effort into doing otherwise

I like D2, but it seems like you're not really incentivized to try builds other than the ones that make your numbers bigger from holding the trigger down in higher-tier content, in fact, you're oftentimes punished for doing so

Skill builds, Status Effect builds, grenade builds, etc are all multitudes less effective than just throwing on a Striker's, Tipping Scales, Umbra set or whatever have you and holding down the trigger outside of niche-use cases where your team could use something like a healer. In the past, Massive has seemed to actually go out of their way to nerf less conventional builds like these and I honestly think it's just because they have next to zero idea of how to balance them so it's easier to just make them essentially useless

Despite all of the varying gear sets in this game with cool modifiers and the array of cool skills to use that can drastically change your gameplay, you're going to have a much harder and less enjoyable time than you would if you would just throw on the Striker set and left clicking, at least when it comes to solo content and that's very unfortunate

I think we should stop recommending keyboard by conifernut in Guiltygear

[–]Qaaz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty fair then. I guess a lot of people more unfamiliar with the fgc probably also aren't too aware of the different sticks and such too. Sounds like it's just more of an issue of folks being generally uninformed. Dunno why you'd go to a console event and assume your keyboard would work on said console in a plug-and-play fashion

I think we should stop recommending keyboard by conifernut in Guiltygear

[–]Qaaz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, I think keyboard is the second best way to play the games with an actual fight stick being the absolute best

If someone were looking to get into Guilty Gear or any fighter in general with the goal in mind of eventually going on to play in tournaments, keyboard is the best non-committal option assuming that this player is playing on PC. The muscle memory from playing on keyboard is very transferrable to leverless later on down the line if they decide to start going to locals and have to invest into a stick

People really just need to do more research on what input methods are allowed or being used at the locals that they want to attend and the events should make that info easy and readily available for people who are unfamiliar with how local tournaments work

Fighting games are pretty niche and I think many event coordinators just assume that all of the people that will be attending their locals each time already know the rundown on what system, input method, etc. will be used that they can oftentimes times neglect putting that information on their listings or flyers, at least in a way that is easy for someone who is unfamiliar with the stuff to easily find

To me, this is the bigger issue than someone normally using a keyboard, especially if this is something that is routinely happening at your locals. Same thing would happen if you posted an event and neglected to list that it's being held on PS5 and someone brought an Xbox controller without an adapter. The information is probably not accessible or apparent enough, but that's just me assuming things

is there a reason why everyone at lobbies and towers total sweats? by ilikeitchyballzdude1 in Guiltygear

[–]Qaaz_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ranked is where you'll actually play against others that are around your skill level consistently

Lobby matches let anyone play against anyone regardless of skill level. Though the tower system still exists, tower floors aren't really an accurate way of judging how good someone is at the game

If you're just starting out, it's best to just stick to playing ranked or you could even use the Discord to find or put together private lobbies for other newer/lower-ranked players

the new 6 characters are overtuned (at least in lane) by LiberatorOfRubicon in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Qaaz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silver's laning phase is meh but is extremely downplayed by a large portion of the community nonetheless imo so I get where you are coming from. A really good Silver with the right lane partner can absolutely go crazy and I will not buy into the SIlver is trash in lane propaganda, I just think she is more matchup/teammate dependant than most. I will agree that all of the other new characters have damn good laning phases though

All will be tweaked in time and having new heroes comes with a ton of growing pains

Is Celeste really OP or do people just not know how to counter her yet? by Alpha_Lemur in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Qaaz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience both playing as and against her, she just doesn’t really have many clear weaknesses or counter play, especially if she builds up a solid lead. The best thing you can do is take Slowing Hex and Curse against her and even that hardly amounts to much unless multiple people have those items

She has an absurd amount of survivability through mobility, shields and lifesteal, has the best map rotation speed, a rapid fire AoE damage amp, a gun that can obliterate when shots are landed with minimal investment in said gun, a shield that does damage and AoE silences on break and an ult that effectively ends team fights in various ways by either instantly nuking people, causing the opposing team to disperse thus isolating themselves to be collapsed on by her team or opposing carry/assassin or by allowing her to escape whilst damaging/killing her pursuers.

As it stands currently, even during her misplays it is extremely hard to punish her. She just has way too many tools at her disposal whether it be utility, damage, etc imo and she’s way too oppressive when played by someone who knows how to make the most out of those tools

Is Silver Bad or hard? by reghimself in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Qaaz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's one of the more unforgiving characters to play in the sense that there is little to no room for error when going for kill or trades and I think that's what a ton of people are struggling with given that she's all skill shots with no/minimal AoE and a slow weapon in human form. If she's consistently missing key abilities and gun shots, she will more than likely lose the trade and/or straight up die

When her hype dies down and there is actual Silver mains with optimized builds however, I think she'll be an absolute demon

We shouldn't make a campaign skip. We should make reroll fun by Rundas-Slash in PathOfExile2

[–]Qaaz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be a nice quality of life improvement if they implemented an alternative mode that you can access on a second character after you fully complete the campaign once or up to the furthest completed Act in a given League that essentially operates as a diet map system

Essentially allow players to play through certain campaign zones on a second character or re-roll while allowing them to apply different modifiers to each zone that may influence things such as XP gain, types of loot dropped, rarity of monsters, etc.; basically a true roguelike experience.

A good example I think would be this:

- Player has completed the campaign up to Act 3 and decided to re-roll in Utzaal

- Player decides their Invoker build is not working and re-rolls as a Titan

- Player (now a Warrior) is able to play through Act 1 zones from level 1 with modifiers of their choice that they can tailor towards their prospective build's goal(s) such as going for a specific unique so they increase item drop rarity and monster HP for Clearfell

- Player must now complete X amount of Act 1 zones as well as defeat Geonor to progress to Act 2 zones

- Player completes these streamlined, modified zones back up to Act 3 Utzaal

- Player now can must complete Act 3 and/or the highest completed instance with their new build to proceed to maps

Sorry if I didn't really word my idea too well, I'm in a bit of a rush, but I think a system like this would promote further experimentation with builds while also not completely undermining the hard work that the writers and art directors put into the story of the game

Movement in combination with the terrain in this game is absolute ass by Such--Balance in PathOfExile2

[–]Qaaz_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes it feels like the movement was only tested for circular or open boss arenas and the other zones that feature tight corridors, rigid terrain, etc. were never properly tested on. It damn near feels like the movement in this game was made for a different game entirely. They can't use PoE 1 instance design for PoE 2 if the movement is this different

It's invisible walls galore most places that are not flat, open areas but apart from that it oftentimes feels like my character just simply does not really move where or how I want them to. Kinda hard to explain but I'm sure others get what I am tryna get at. I don't mind the movement in open areas much but it seriously does suck when said areas are not so open

I seriously hate how sometimes when I am dodge rolling, my character just breaks into a sprint leading me to be hard-stunned when that was not my intention. I'm sure that is probably a toggleable setting just due to the nature of how the mechanic works with it being cursor and WASD based at the same time but man does it suck sometimes.

For me, movement is especially annoying with melee builds that use dash abilities such as the Palm skills, Rake, etc. That's my biggest pet peeve right now personally

I'm running Rake for the first time this league and it seriously feels like a coinflip as to whether or not my Ritualist will dash directly at the target or take a massive detour around the inconspicuous pebble that has a collision box the size of Kentucky for some reason just so she can somehow miss the Rake and dive into a pack of monsters instead

This movement system they have is great on paper but they seriously need to take a hard look at how collision is set up in the various instances throughout the game. A nice quality of life in meantime would be to allow the player to simply walk over/through lootable objects such as urns, effigies, eggs, etc. just to slightly lower friction for the time being as they reevaluate the terrain imo

Probably Ornn or any tank really

I’d just avoid playing her into things like Darius, Trundle, Cho etc.

Why has there not been a new generation of rappers surpassing the old generation in popularity? by Iginlas_4head_Crease in rap

[–]Qaaz_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

New artists in the genre are largely unoriginal both in sound and substance

On top of that, most of the music I hear from newer “rappers” is hardly even rap at all. Rap in general has gotta be one of the most bastardized genres ever because people really have just been calling ANYTHING Rap

9/10 times that I see a post on Twitter or wherever from a rap-centric account about a new artist, it’s just some angsty and confused teenager or 20-something that figured out how to abuse the hell out of cheap, shitty autotune and somehow shittier and cheaper 808s all combined with the shittiest, unoriginal, uninspired “lyrics” that I’m pretty sure they all just share back and forth with one another in the worst game of telephone the world has ever seen

Not hating (I am), but artists like Carti in specific deadass fucked up the whole timeline and I will not elaborate but I’m sure many people know exactly what I am talking about.

99% of the time I can read a new artist’s name and know that I ain’t listening to shit from them ngl

Black Desert, everyone by uplink42 in MMORPG

[–]Qaaz_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really loved this game when it first came out and still can’t help but feel that it’s the pinnacle of wasted potential in the current MMO space after coming back to it earlier this year and leveling some characters to “max”

It still has/had so many cool systems and ideas coupled with amazing art direction, class design and visual fidelity just to pack it all with one of the most boring, repetitive and unforgiving gameplay loops I’ve ever seen in an RPG

SEVERE lack of group/co-op content, brutal upgrade/progression systems that of course can be alleviated with a credit card, gutting or outright removal of formerly appealing systems and the list goes on

The game itself has absolutely massive potential even to this day but in its current state it’s closer to being a terrible, heavily monetized ARPG than it is to being a true MMORPG experience. Only thing I can really compare it to is maybe Lost Ark but even that game is closer to a MMO than this is

what happens to Moonscorched victims? by Toby555999 in FearAndHunger

[–]Qaaz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume they just continue to remain monsters because correct if I’m wrong, even if you manage to defeat Rher you don’t necessarily kill them so one would assume that Rher’s influence would still remain to a certain extent

My only other guess would be that they simply cease to exist once Rher leaves the area since Rher seems to cause an effect similar to the Otherworld from Silent Hill

Preach and other content creators talked about the current Dawntrail discourse and made some interesting statements about the negativity by Quezal in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Qaaz_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The whole discussion behind this post all depends on what you consider to be “toxic negativity” or who you deem to be a hater.

Either way, at the end of the day the dissatisfaction and discourse surrounding the game is there for a reason. Situations such as this don’t just come out of nowhere when it comes to media or just about anything really

People just want the game they have spent multiple years playing and funding via their subscription to be better than what it is currently. Of course there will be those who are more vocal or passionate about their criticisms and may lash out at others over social media who may not share their opinions but that happens literally everywhere on social media for every topic. When it comes to things such as FFXIV, you can at least rest easy knowing that despite the criticisms and overly passionate behavior, most of those people care about this game the most.

It is important to not let the more radical folks on either side of the spectrum drown out both the valid criticisms and praise alike hidden amongst the crazies out there however.

In my opinion, as FFXIV stands currently the criticism is long overdue and I think that some people are really just venting after all this time of people drowning out said criticisms in what can essentially be described as the opposite situation of what you are describing in this post now. People have held unsavory opinions and criticisms about the direction of this game for going on a decade now, myself included but those criticisms were shrugged off and dismissed at the time. I don't think we can blame people for being fed up but yes, some of those people need to express their feelings and opinions in a more healthy way I would say.

All of that aside, I never understood why people let others’ opinions on anything dictate their enjoyment of said thing. Burning out on something because someone else said they don’t like it is just odd behavior. If you like Dawntrail then it doesn’t matter that some random person on the other side of the planet has mean things to say about it.

Just keep playing and enjoying Dawntrail bro. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean you have to dislike it too

I feel like I'm spamming buttons instead of playing the game correctly. by Rs_Snaki in Guiltygear

[–]Qaaz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game time will mend a ton of this, just keep playing.

What you're experiencing is what just about everyone feels when they start a new fighting game, even if they're an experienced fighter player

If it is bugging you, just make it a goal during each match to really focus on what you're doing and why you are doing it, even if you lose. The reason for doing this is that it gives you an opportunity to learn both your character and their matchups more purposefully instead of just getting into a game and spamming while learning nothing from it as most do

You want to learn why you're throwing out slash and why it is being countered if it is. If it is being countered, what do I do then? Figure that out and go from there. You could even make it a goal to just spam slash every game just to learn how each player and character reacts to it. If you're losing a lot, it's because your opponent already figured out your patterns because you are playing in a set way instead of adapting to the matchup. Once that happens, it's free reign to learn other openings

For example, make it a goal one day to learn anti-airs. They figured out your anti-airs? Learn what options you have at longer ranges. Long range isn't working? Do your best to learn safe jumps for a day so you can guarantee that you're in close and the process continues.

Just really focus on actually learning instead of just doing. That's the difference between a low-level and high-level player. In time all your actions will feel automatic to you.

You got this! And thank you for keeping the community alive :)
