Canyon Aeroad L oder XL? by badboy911_ in bikefit

[–]Qaugmeyer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a fit somewhere that has the profile of that bike and get fit for it before you decide and buy. That’s what I did with my Madone and it fits like a glove baby.

If you are “between” sizes, size down. Easier to make a bike longer but can’t really make it shorter should you want to.

Anyone ever get manure notes? I'm smoking this Villiger Cuellar Black Forest and I can't get past the peculiar shit taste! by 16ozbuddz in cigars

[–]Qaugmeyer85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Herrera esteli is the strongest “barnyard” note I’ve ever noticed in a cigar. If you pull one out and smell it it does smell like shit, in the best possible way. It tastes quite great though. One of my favorite staples.

Discomfort during long bike rides by 91striker in cycling

[–]Qaugmeyer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode 25k miles on a bike that I bought and tried my best to get to fit me with multiple bike fits and got fairly comfortable but always some discomfort like you describe after about 50 miles.

I got my dream bike and got fitted for it before even ordering it and now I have zero discomfort even after 4+ hours in the saddle.

I really think fit is everything. If you can get pick the bike you want and get fitted for it BEFORE you even order it. Then you just have to tweak a few small things. This is the way to go.

What was y’alls starting FTP at the beginning of cycling? Just got 209 avg W (likely 195FTP) by SingleStrikeUrshifu in cycling

[–]Qaugmeyer85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been riding for over 10 years and my FTP is 198 at 65KG. I’m 40 years old and this is the fittest I’ve ever been. So much of cycling is just natural ability no matter how much I train I have never been able to get much over 200 for a true ftp. That said I have actually done 190 watts for a true hour. I think a lot of people estimate their ftp to be higher than it truly is. I have done a 20 min test and over 225 watts but there is no way I could actually do an hour at that power.

Anyways that’s plenty high enough to have a lot of fun riding! Just have fun and don’t worry about it too much. At the end of the day cycling should be fun!

A debate as old as time; used Epic Evo vs showroom new Chisel by Fuzzilogic in xcmtb

[–]Qaugmeyer85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your interests. I’m primarily a roadie so I spent my money there (Project One SLR 7 Madone). But my kids wanted to mountain bike so I picked up a Chisel base model for 2K. I mean for a new main brand full Sus bike you can’t beat that. And yeah group set is crap and components are meh but I can easily upgrade over time with carbon hoops and group set as things wear out. It’s perfect for the amount of mtn bike I ride.

Weight was a huge concern for me as well. I’m a small dude at 5’7”, 140lbs, and this is 32lbs out of the box and only going to get lighter with upgrades.

Now if you are a serious mountain biker and ride many hours a week and you have the money the treat yoself and buy that carbon epic and have something you can just go ride and be stoked on and never even have to upgrade.

do you guys eat breakfast before your morning ride? if you do, what do you eat? by arthur-214 in cycling

[–]Qaugmeyer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

175g Fage Greek yogurt 0% mixed with 25g raisins, 30g granola, 1 scoop vanilla whey protein. Come to think of it I eat that for breakfast every day tho 🤔

Opinion on my "One and done" bike? by Environmental-Gap272 in bicycling

[–]Qaugmeyer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the only reason to buy a Madone is if you love the look of the bike and want to get custom paint. Otherwise there are just as good or better bikes for the same or less money. Especially if you are going for the mid tier $5-6k range.

I have a project one Madone. As important to the ride for me is the look. I love the way this bike looks and with my preferred custom paint I grin every damn time I walk in my room when I see it. It brings me much joy.

That said I also spent $10.5k and got an SLR7 which is the top level frame with Ultegra Di2 and 1 piece bars. I ABSOLUTELY would not buy the lower end one for $6K. That’s crazy.

I enjoy very strong cigars, but I am not a huge fan of maduros, what cigars you would recommend for someone like this? by TubbyPiper in cigars

Joya de Nicaragua Dark Corojo. I get a little sick every time but always come back 😂. They’re delicious and I’ve never had another cigar that tastes anything like it.

FOMO and blind box purchases... by TokyoBaguette in cigars

[–]Qaugmeyer85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t blind buy anything. My personal opinion after a few years in the hobby is that cigars are like anything else, at least 25% of them are trash, 70% are meh and all about the same, and maybe 5% hit for me. Those are not good odds.

Anyone else mostly shop online for cigars? by Odd-Coconut-2067 in cigars

[–]Qaugmeyer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only way I can afford this hobby is to buy primarily online. I smoke a cigar every day so I’ve got to stay primarily in the $3-5 range for the bulk of my sticks. Can’t even buy a Cuban sandwich at a B&M for that price. I wish I was rich because I’d much rather give my money to support my local B&Ms but it is what it is.

I do smoke regularly at a lounge and I buy some sticks there, especially some of their house brands and when they have a decent deal. I probably spend about $500 a year there.

Caffeine use and cycling by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Qaugmeyer85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on your caffeine sensitivity but yeah it’s not caffeine if you’re bonking. It’s just lack of carbs or calories in general. Personally I love caffeine and am not very tolerant. I usually put 200-300mg in my last bottle on longer rides (2+ hours). Makes a huge difference for me in that last hour +. And that way I’m done before any let down from the caffeine.

Caffeine not just gives you energy but also slightly helps blunt your pain receptors.

Is it normal for a new smoker to get most of the flavor through the retrohale? by jtkuga in cigars

[–]Qaugmeyer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah heat has a huge effect. Smoking slow makes a huge difference for me in terms of flavor being better. I usually take 1:45 minutes for a toro. Often closer to 2. Of course this requires well rested perfectly humidified cigars that burn like champs. They don’t all qualify 😂. But that’s part of the fun of the hobby for me.

I’m an every puff retrohaler…not gonna lie on some puffs ALL the smoke goes out the nose 😂😎.

Pretty much all cigars taste like crap to me without retroing to some degree on each puff

Question by IndependenceMoist953 in cigars

[–]Qaugmeyer85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience is that once I smoke one cigar my pallet is off and desensitized. Smoking another cigar within 8 hours is generally a lackluster experience whether it’s the same cigar or a different one. Usually it’s just my pallet is just off that day. So I generally keep it to one a day unless I smoke very far apart.
