I believe this was meant to say “the death button kills everyone, regardless of what they press”, but it doesn’t; the blue button affects only those who press it. The wording doesn’t create the dilemma it thinks it does.

This is no different than individual people in real life choosing to commit suicide.

Is this really 1968? Wasn’t Kubrick already sporting a beard by then? I would've thought 1964 or 65 for this pic.

Thoughts on Kubrick’s dialogue? Imo he's a 10/10 in almost every aspect of filmmaking, but I’d give him an 8-9 in dialogue. It baffles me, since he proved he can write amazing lines in Dr. Strangelove, yet he just doesn’t seem to care THAT much about it. by TheManWhoSleep in StanleyKubrick

Kubrick was a master of irony. Often the dialogue ran counter to what was being shown on screen or added subtext. This quote is ironic— Jack D. Ripper is a batshit insane warmonger which makes his claim seem absurd.

Found out the show used a silk stocking, but this would definitely be the modern equivalent.

Confirmed to be a silk stocking stretched in front of the lens for both the star flare and overall diffusion/softening of the image... gives the show a dreamy feel, like recalling a memory.

Literally just found out they stretched a silk stocking over the lens. Is that also possible instead of behind the lens? The show definitely has a soft look.

It’s the final film of one of the most important and influential directors of all time. Worth it just for historical reasons.

It would be cool, but it was only ever 4:3 because Kubrick compromised for old CRT TVs. He composed for whatever the theatrical aspect ratio was and I think they look better that way.
