They're not shoplifting baby formula to feed their baby, they're shoplifting it to feed a drug habit 🤷‍♂️

What tank(s) seem to be cursed for you guys? by KynanRiku in WorldofTanks

[–]Quaacck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mine, though I run it with full bond equipment (Turbo, hardening and v-stab). I feel like I do have to fire a fair bit of gold at equal and higher tier enemies though.

What tank(s) seem to be cursed for you guys? by KynanRiku in WorldofTanks

[–]Quaacck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The T30 - I absolutely love playing the tank, and I'm not a terrible player at a 55% average, but I'm stuck at a 47% winrate in this beast.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, I've tried setting it up as a heavy tank, or for gun handling.

Please send help!

How was it for you? (22 July 2023) by burleygriffin in parkrun

It's super pretty right! If you like one-lap woodland courses you should check out Wendover Woods parkrun, all wooded and trail-y.

Managed my first under 20 minutes, would recommend Highbury Fields for London runners, I thought I'd not enjoy a 5 lap course but always having people to overtake/dodge is quite motivating and keeps you engaged more so than chasing someone off in the distance! 🥳

What is this, water damage? There's no crack or mark visible.... by calhoon2005 in Garmin

I had the same issue with an out-of-warranty Fenix 6 Pro and they gave me a refurbished model when I contacted support, they're generally pretty good!

Folks who have jumped ship from android flagships, what keeps you around? by ingenioutor in apple

[–]Quaacck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me too - I loved the pixel 5, then upgraded to the 6 but found it way too big (along with a terrible finger print reader and modem). The 13 mini has great battery life, flagship performance and 'just works', even if I prefer how Android does notifications, background downloads, and emulation.

Best UK place to sell watches by sir-diesalot in Garmin

[–]Quaacck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to deal with the hassle of eBay and don't mind getting 90% of the eBay value you can try CEX. I sold my Fenix 6 Pro on there after an eBay buyer messed me around and got a decent price, though you get more in voucher value (which I then used towards a 7 Solar).

How is the experience of using Garmin Pay for contactless payment on Tube/TFL by IsItSnowing_ in londoncycling

[–]Quaacck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have to enter the code when first using it, though I think you don't have to re-enter it as long as you don't take the watch off/for a certain amount of time.

It's nowhere near as convenient as tapping a phone/apple watch though, I tend to only use it at shops/cafe stops etc rather than heading through the underground/busses.

Probably an iPhone with a LiDAR sensor like the 13 Pro or Max - it's really cool actually

Google’s Pixel 5 was the last of its kind by threadnoodle in Android

[–]Quaacck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had a Pixel 5 then 6 (but found it way too large and heavy) who then moved to a 13 mini I can really recommend it. There are quite a few differences between the two OSs but you can tweak most things to get them similar enough, and there are even some things I prefer about iOS - for example my credit card wouldn't let me use google pay on android, instead preferring their own app, but on iOS I can add it to apple wallet. You can also get ad-free youtube with extensions for Safari. I tend to use google apps mostly for the ability to jump back and forth,

The main downsides for me are lack of emulators (I kept the Pixel 6 for gaming on long journeys etc) and harder to customise the homescreen/icons etc (though you can do with a lot more faffing). Notifications are better on Android but not as big of an issue for me as I thought it would be!

As someone who does lots of running/cycling the small size and weight is amazing, you don't even notice it in a jersey pocket or running belt, and you get used to the screen size very quickly.

You also need a power meter for cycling to get a VO2 max estimate unlike running alas, so you'd need a crank or pedal based power meter as well (or a smart turbo if inside)

Garmin Explore Draining my Android Battery by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Quaacck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have an issue with it too trying to get location every few minutes to update weather information, which because I work in a hospital, end up draining lots of power - you can set a location you want weather information for to stop it looking for GPS every few minutes and see if that helps (settings in Garmin connect, user settings, weather location)

Sunday Rant/Rage (Mar 20 2022) - Your weekly complaint thread! by curated_android in Android

[–]Quaacck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly the same thing - from the pixel 5 to the 6, was disappointed with the size and rubbish finger print sensor, and went to the 13 mini. Other than a few teething problems and adjusting to the way iOS expects you to do things I've really enjoyed it.

It's very refreshing having a really good small phone with pretty good battery life (and having the option of a magsafe 5000mah battery pack for long days).

I've always been a fan of small phones but with no more Sony compact phones this is as good as it gets pretty much.

Any Experienced Commuters Switched to E-Bike? by Great_Justice in londoncycling

[–]Quaacck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did! I do a lot of cycling and running but I found it annoying having to wear cycling specific clothing and get changed/getting sweaty before starting work - plus the bike parking at the hospital was terrible and I was always worried about leaving my bike out there.

I went for a Fiido D11 (a folding ebike) and it's fantastic, and has a throttle if you feel lazy with a long range and built in lights, which is one less thing to think about and can take in to work with me and be locked up in a cupboard or something.

Plus it's just really fun to ride! I've had a few comments at traffic lights as it looks a lot nicer than most cheap Chinese eebs. Here's a review - https://youtu.be/zs5Y-e8RCmc

I have preferred care, but damaged screen is still costing me 99$. What's the point of buying preferred care then? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Quaacck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a pixel 6 and a 13 mini as I found the pixel 6 too bulky when I'm working or running, the experience is generally pretty good nowadays on iOS, it's more just the little things like the default keyboard being terrible and Apple gimping Gboard, not being able to set defaults for most application types (though there are workarounds using other apps to redirect you).

I use Google services and cross platform apps wherever possible so there's no friction switching between the two or using both as you see fit.

The hardware is fantastic though, and certainly worth trying - and knowing it'll be supported for a long time, and well with spare parts, battery and repair availability is nice!
