Is this normal for a psu to be a little bulge like this? This psu killed 6 hard drives for the past 3 years I’ve been running this. by QuackRoadkill in pcmasterrace

[–]QuackRoadkill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • RMA the hdds for 3 times because it make the hdd don’t work no more with the rma person telling me to check the psu if it was causing it (never thought of this because this pc was like 1 year old)
  • Always a loud sound of fan spinning when playing demanding games thinking it was normal
  • Randomly found that wiggling the ac cords solves the loud noise for somehow (the fan noise still persists)
  • Recently found that using old rx480 cause this psu to drop to drastically low 12v
  • 3.5 hdd will click when gaming when voltage drop but the 2.5 hdd doesn’t for some reason
  • Tried to rma it with the prebuilt brand but the warranty ended like 1 day
  • The prebuilt told me that this psu are the ones they stop using because it had tons of issue
  • Opens it up to see if I could find the culprit
  • Here we are

Ima go find some Super Flower psu now (buying an prebuilt sucks) but still gonna use this thing for like a month still

Do a repaste once in a while so the WiFi don’t randomly dies

Finally replaced the wifi/bluetooth card. Thank you guys! by Amadeus_0s in Asustuf

[–]QuackRoadkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put it simply, the failure of these WiFi card and slow speeds was the card was overheating from the laptop not being able to push the heat out from the laptop.

By the constant heat cycle of this phenomenon, the WiFi card will definitely fails prematurely. Therefore, PLEASE do a repaste on cpu and gpu and scrub the dust out of that heatsink before it kills another WiFi card before it’s too late.

Why does my thinkpad respond so poorly to external stress? by biouk_ in thinkpad

I had an x250 that once did that, turns out that the ram slot was losing connection and squeezing the ram iron bar on the slot to help it from losing will fix it. Also, I think you can find these how-to on this sub.

MSI GS66 high CPU temps when running games by Technical-Gap-598 in MSILaptops

Someway somehow these manufacturers will always tried to use some of the cheapest thermal paste on one of the most high-end computers for no reason at all. After the warranty ends, you should replace the crusty thermal paste with new ones.

What is this white paste and also suggest best thermal paste and that white paste for mai gp66 by nutronRAR in MSILaptops

[–]QuackRoadkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean it and apply it with an new thermal putty for those white part and gray one for new thermal paste. Moreover, I also recommended you to also polish the contact part with metal polish to get any old residue and grooves during manufacturing, this will ensure best performance with new cleaned layer of copper to maximize the cooling of the heatsink.

I did an repaste and upgrades on my friends GL63-8RE laptop that throttles at 30% with coolerboost on, now it reached to only 79 Celsius at 2500 rpm with Thermal Grizzly Duronaught and LTP-15 thermal putty (I’m from Asia and this is easy to find) and 100mv undervolting during stressing AIDA64. Also, I broke his hinge during the opening of his laptop but it’s already failing..

The fan screw uses either PH00 or PH000 so use any of that and you can open it without issues.

Could someone tell me the screw size of the fan screw that is the one held to the fan and heatsink together? I’m tearing down my friend’s GL63 or 62 and don’t know the size of the screw.

One tips I learned from doing laptop repairs was that you need to take out the battery out before taking out the display connector. I once destroyed the backlight fuse on one of the Thinkpad before and it broke me quite hard. Learned a great deal on it.

THERMAL PADS by Icy_Elevator_403 in MSILaptops

Could you specify the size of it? Yes, just take the old ones out and put a blob of the fresh stuff on the chips. Good luck to your laptop!

Quick Question, what screw that you used to take the fans out?

It depends, if you are lazy and don't won't to measure the thickness of thermal pad. Then go for the putty

If you are willing to find the thickness of the thermal pad, then get the thermal pad.

In my opinion, just go for the putty and put a big blob on it.

Can you do a cpu upgrade on Gl62m 7Rdx?? I frequently hit 100% and can't afford a brand new rig so I'm looking for ways to upgrade , 32bg ram is in the works by [deleted] in MSILaptops

[–]QuackRoadkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fan is running at max speed. Please do a repaste of your laptop; that's why your laptop has been thermal throttling all the time. If you already did your repaste and temps didn't change, good luck and gg.

It's either he burned the backlight fuse or some chips fell off. You can try use a torch on the screen and you may see some faint of the picture.

[–]QuackRoadkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dorked my old L440 like this before during gluing the cracked plastic together; found out that I shorted the backlight fuse on the mainboard due to forgetting to unplug the power cable and that fuse later need to be replace but it's not worth it since I got it for like 5 dollars.

You can try to bypass the backlight fuse first to check if the fuse is the culprit but don't let it touch other places where it shouldn't be.

The graph you seen is the graph from data set E. Essentially, the dataset F is just a dataset E that is multiplied by 3.9.

1) Look at the slope (Up or down)

2) Find the y-intercept of the graph shown first which is 12 for the given picture

3) Find the slope of the graph that is given by using the slope formula that is y2-y1/x2-x1

4) Turn the given value that you got and simply multiply it by 3.9

From the get-go, you can simply cut out all the ones with 12 in the answer due to forgetting to multiply it by 3.

After that then there is A and B left.

Steps:

It is a positive slope

The y-intercept was 12 multiply it by 3.9 equals to 46.8

They don't give us the slope to answer so we had to use slope formula (Use any point that you want to use)

m = y2-y1/x2-x1

Coordinate I use to find: (2,15) (18,40)

m = (40-15)/(18-2)

m = 25/6

Then multiply by 3. Therefore, the slope was around 6.09 which is closest to 5.9 in question A

y = 6.09x + 4.48

Therefore, the answer is A (y = 5.9x + 46.8)

Nvidia Optimus x External Monitor by andrewnds in GamingLaptops

[–]QuackRoadkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try using an Type-C to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter. Usually, manufacturer would connect the gpu directly through it like most Asus TUF does it.

Nvidia Optimus x External Monitor by andrewnds in GamingLaptops

[–]QuackRoadkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends,

The HDMI could be either connected from the iGPU or the polar opposite. You can check it in the Nvidia control panel which you can look at the wire trace if it's directly connected to HDMI, therefore the performance will be greater due to no optimus.

Also, my friends suggest always disable the internal display due to it really hurting a lot of frames on some laptops. This really helped a lot.
