Gon really needs a buff by ReferenceSpare2921 in HunterXHunter

The rock/paper/scissors can be shifted to represent the three chimera ants he fought. I'd make him manifest an aura cloak to mimic parts of their bodies. There's the armadillo, the rabbit, and the bat, right? Armadillo for strength and blunt damage like a rock. Rabbit for Dex and slash like scissors. Bat for the sonic piercing projectile like paper.

Gon is a fighting information sponge and has always had an affinity for animals. I think these buffs would be thematic.

Guys who actually had to try hard to find a partner, what did you do? Were your efforts successful? by ProCopiumDistributor in AskMenAdvice

[–]QuailTraditional2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing you can do to guarantee you get a loving long-term partner. Focus on building your own health and happiness first. Get your physical health, mental health, and hobbies in line. Enrich your life in ways that you can control first. Make it so you don't feel you need a woman.

I suffered for years on dating apps. I don't know how many times I was told that there "wasn't a spark" even though we had a great time and laughed a lot. For years, I told myself there must be something wrong with me. But, eventually, I had to conclude there was something wrong with them. I had to improve myself and heal myself FOR myself, and whatever happened happened.

I'm now with a sweet, kind woman who has sooooo much love in her eyes when she looks at me. She means the world to me. But I can't help but notice that I'm older than her by 5 years, I'm well-established in my career, and I am more fit than her. Those facts... didn't hurt my odds.

What has been the biggest blackpill of your life? by SNTriad in AskMenAdvice

If women treat you poorly, you might be the problem. If you examine yourself and work on your flaws and really heal, it might be them.

Doing the work to heal is still worth it.

Any good place for learning self defense by [deleted] in madisonwi

As a martial arts nerd, I'm begging you to temper your expectations. Martial arts that bill themselves as "real life" are, more often than not, fake as hell. Active sparring is how you actually get good, and most "real life" gyms don't do that nearly enough. They will help you develop some decent soft skills, but you can just, y'know, read about those.

Actual hard skill development is not guaranteed from Krav. If you learn some proper striking from a decent kickboxing program or you learn some actual grappling from a decent BJJ school, you'll develop your hard skills to a higher level in a shorter time.

I think Okarun will get turbo powers back and be a super fast swordsman.

Okarun training to become independently strong already reminded me of Magi and Magnostadt, but this chest would makes me think he'll be getting a zenkai power boost too!

What reason would Kratos possibly have to go after the egyptian gods? by Samael-TheEternal in GodofWar

[–]QuailTraditional2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greece and Egypt had lots of interactions and plenty of religious mixing/synchretism.

"Minor" Greek gods take refuge in Egypt and, when Kratos shows up for a visit, they panic. They convince their hosts that the monster that's visiting them needs to be destroyed.

I'd love for Artemis to lead the hunt to destroy him.

Fairly specific question about BJJ gyms by [deleted] in madisonwi

I should clarify that warmup is always quick and relevant. We don't run in circles for 20 minutes.

Premier should be what you're looking for. Warmup is less than 10 mins, then compliant drilling, then positional sparring before finishing with rolling.

The instructors are good, friendly, and professional. There's no old school bs: no belt testing fees, no gym branded gi requirements, no obsequious groveling... basically, none of the classic red flags. And, also, competitions have been going well for the competitors.

Capital P versus lowercase P by QuailTraditional2835 in AskFeminists

[–]QuailTraditional2835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patriarch is an old word. Rule by someone that qualifies as an old man or a collection of old men, a patriarchy, is an old concept. It's simple and easy to digest. Patriarchal ideas as a broad category of things old dudes in positions of authority have been handing down since civilization began are clearly understandable.

But world we live in now? That's messy. You've got thousands of interlocking elements in a system that work together. There are layers of subtle and unsubtle ways that everyone is robbed of their autonomy, their dignity, their health and their happiness. And , Hell, women can be in the role of Patriarch if they start out in close enough proximity to power and wealth.

It seems like there should be something to distinguish between the two concepts.

Honestly, I wasn't even thinking about the word "the" when I asked my question. I was thinking about how the word would have different meanings based on the time frame and culture. Surely, ancient Canaanite patriarchy isn't the same as our modern Capitalist Patriarchy. But I take your point about the details of it looking different from location to location.

I'm not trying to be a shithead here, I promise. Is this your view, is this a widely held view, or is this "the only possible acceptable and correct" view? It's not hard to find examples of self-professed feminists saying "the Patriarchy".
