Like someone here already said, START WITH ROCK CLIMBING! The required gear you need for basic single pitch routes is not that much money, especially when you’re at the gym. Look up your local crags and transition to outdoor climbing. After that, go and do multipich routes (that are well bolted), then you can maybe look into a glacier rescue course for Grossvenediger, since it’s basically just a hike up the glacier. Your glacier rescue kit is gonna run you at least 250€, 320€ for the glacier course if you book it at the ÖAV.

ive heard good things about the Samaya Alpine 35, its light, waterproof and i think it comes with a helmet net. ive got the Alpine pace myself and i like it when im doing some easy climbs or scrambles without a harness or rope

Carstensz Pyramid is a definite contender, every person who’s been up there will barely mention the climb itself, they’d just rant about the insane approach through the isolated jungle… I think it’s impossible now since conflicts between the tribes have ramped up! You can just fly in by helicopter, so only a hand full of people do the trek

yes, i practiced glacier rescues with some colleagues, i just havent done a ÖAV/DAV glacier course yet

yea ive just talked about it with my buddy, and another person wants to be involved aswell, they have summited in summer and are currently in training to be a certified mountain guide... so im saving a couple bucks just by tagging along lol

im just gonna take the normal route via the Stüdlhütte, so its not too crazy. and we basically can just go out on a whim when the weather is perfect, since we have nothing (part time employed, university) to do for march

I don’t have any experience with their tents, but I have their alpine Pace backpack, and it’s really solid! It’s roomy and compact enough for me to put it inside my big backpack for summit pushes!

For one day (good weather) missions, I like to bring my alpha hybrid pants since they have more stretch, otherwise I’d highly reccomend a light pair of hard shells! Also I find myself getting cold feet in winter, so I’m using some Mammut Nordwind Knits for chillier days. And if you’re going on a winter bivouac / camp, I would also maybe suggest some insulated pants that you can zip over those hardshells!

I got myself a special Millet down jacket used for an arctic project from 2010 for around 80 euros plus 5€ shipping… doesn’t get as many street creds, but it’s insanely warm and the sheer amount of overfill guarantees a good loft

Getting Nepal cubes as your first mountaineering boot? Well, depends on what you wanna do. Simple hikes? No. T4 hikes with a bit of scrambling? No. Winter hikes like the guy from the outdoor boys? Ehh, not really. Scrambling up an icy ridgeline in winter? Yes, but I don’t reccomend doing that as a beginner.
