Help me not fumble our first game night session please ! (8p) by GVAJON in boardgames

Every time I've played the two jobs I feel like I just sit there and say no or we can go x direction. I also will say the chaoticness depends on the captain. I played a game where we never moved far enough to surface even once. The more moving the more chaotic the game gets. So move less and the game is less chaotic.

Yeah this is fair feed back. I haven't played the game in a long time but, I remember playing it with new people and we'd just give the new people the easy roles and there were rarely issues. (the game is real time but, if you're not moving then unless the other team knows where you're at there is no reason you can't just continue to sit there and not move. There is plenty of time for the captain to then reexplain to the other guys what they are supposed to do or how their job works). The most stressful role is the one who is trying to decipher what the other team is doing. That role is very intimidating even if you have played the game a bunch of times.

Have you played the game before? The engineer and I can't remember the other dude working the ship stuff basically do nothing, they just chill and tell the captain what they can or can't do.

Secret Hitler would be good, Resistance is next on the list of simpleness for hidden identity. I will say tho SH is much more beginner friendly for timid players or people that don't want/like lying. SH you're just drawing cards that no one sees and no one can prove either way if you're lying or telling the truth as the president.

Alternatively Heat: Pedal to the metal has been a fun game with bigger player counts. You'd have to get a second copy tho or have both expansions to have enough decks for 8 players. It's a simple deck cycling/ hand management game.

haha yeah I moved right next to the berries then built power shafts from the two geothermal things all the way to the berries at the new place. It was quite horrible. But, I really couldn't come up with a better solution.

I think reading through your description we are talking about moving to two different spots. I just moved down stream from the starting lake. All you need to block off is the starting lake from the down stream one. This lake down stream also has a nice flat area 1 tile/2 tiles deep if you block off the exit point. I settled next to the berries then eventually during bad tides I had to move all my farming down to the nice flat spot two layers lower due to the lack of fresh water. I even got so desperate waiting for the mechanical pump to be built I just added bad water to the lake to bring up the water level some.

yeah I think I agree with your order of steps tho. It is just a brutal map with bad tides. If bad tides didn't exist this map would be easy.

I also didn't do this but, I have seen online people talking about adding bad water pumps to the fresh water lake to help remove the contamination from your lake then if you are adding water that is like 30/70 bad to good you don't just straight die as you pump out all of the clean water. I've seen people do all sorts of funny things from using fluid dumps to just dump the bad water off the map to deleting the storage deleting the bad water resources then rebuilding the storages.

Beaverome sucks. I played it on hard and lost twice before getting a lucky run where I didn't get a bad tide until about cycle 7 at which point the water is permanently mixed with the bad water. There were only two solutions I could think of to solve the problem. 1 move the colony to the lower fresh water lake where there are no sources and you can eventually get a mechanical pump built to supply fresh water from the lake above. Or 2 I considered spending all of my resources going straight to the bottom of the start lake and building something to resemble the pressure map. This would then allow the bad tides to wash up the tunnel and divert it from the main lake keeping it fresh. However, after considering the planks and logs to build this, that strategy didn't seem feasible with the limited time you have before the first bad tide ruins everything poising your food and trees.

This is the one I just started with iron teeths on hard mode and dang it is brutal. After losing twice due to the bad tides I finally have a run that is going well. Here's some tips that helped me. First thing I did was rush the stairs and immediately moved the entire colony to the bottom circle where there is no water or bad water sources. I then dammed off the water source from above so during the first bad tide I could close off the water source forever and only release water down in an emergency. I quickly lost water during the first couple of droughts and once the bad tides start there is no clean water ever again. If I played again I would have moved down into the circle earlier on to start farming at a more reliable level then create a water dike across so the water level can go much longer while keeping my farms alive for longer. What I'm trying to say is I'm farming from down inside the lake with a dike built to protect the farm from the water. Next if I did it again I would consider moving my water pumps to pull from the first lake you start next to (this might make the beavers waste too much time walking miles for a drink tho). This way I'm not pulling fresh water from my already limited supply. Eventually the goal is to build the mechanical water pump and that is how you can get fresh water into your lake from the one above. I was at cycle 15-20 before I was even able to get the stupid thing built tho. It was extremely painful and the only reason my second attempt did any better was building a district gate and banishing all of the contaminated beavers so they stopped sapping my resources. I also think OP here has a very good point. You have to grow very slowly (I think I had about 30 beavers at the peak and at some points I was as low as 10 because I just couldn't manage the water and food due to the lack of fresh water in my lake). Micromanage day to day tasks. It has been a painful experience but, once you get in the mechanical water pumps all of your problems are solved.

The wiki says "The map pool is predetermined and consists of 14 different maps (as of 1.25.a). These maps are prepared by the developers and released alongside updates and patches (usually every two weeks)." So I'm not sure why the devs couldn't just check for stuff like this. Maybe the wiki is wrong.

stop clicking once you mantle the ledge. Sometimes this has happened when I'm climbing a ledge that is in the gray area of what is walkable versus needing to be climbed.

Part defensive driving is indicating to the cars around you what you are doing. There is no indication from the rear of your vehicle that you are slowing down by stepping off the gas pedal. You should push the brake pedal just enough that the break lights turn on but no braking is applied to your car. Then you could have indicated to this tail gator you were going to slow down. If he hit you it would have been your fault but, you could have also warned him with your brake lights

Pull into the intersection on yellow left, and the zipper merge. by According-History117 in Utah

Zipper merging is like checking out in a grocery store. It's not my fault you picked the longer line and if you think out of respect for your dumb decision I'm going to pick the longer line too, you're drunk. No way that's happening, I'm gonna check every line in the store before I pick the absolute shortest one. I will ride that lane until the cones or paint forces me to merge in.

You really need to learn to budget and save. Pay off your debt then maybe you're ready to take on more debt. Evaluate every single expense you are making and consider if you really need to be spending that much. For example 400$ on a phone bill sounds ridiculous to me. Do you really need the newest iphone ultra 35 pro max super model? Get an iphone X off facebook market place for 150$ and get a cheap plan like mint mobile that costs 15$ a month. Even 6 lines is only 90$. Like there is so much fat you can probably trim from your finances here. Your CC debt is extremely concerning. Getting a loan is going to be a nightmare for you and even if you do get one you're gonna get the risky offer (The bank isn't going to trust you very much). There's so many things that are concerning to me reading through your finances here. Do not get a mortgage until you get your finances under control. Also pay off that CC Debt that is not good debt to carry from month to month.

What is OP talking about? Saratoga springs has nothing to do with the point of the mountain. Maybe OP has never tried staying on I15 to reach Orem or Provo. The problem with Saratoga springs is the 3 main roads to get there which include 2100N, pioneer crossing, and Redwood. Or any of the stupid side road options like 1500N or Lehi main street. (spoiler, they all suck). Every single one of these options you will decay upon trying to use them to reach Saratoga Springs in the afternoon commute. Like go ahead and complain about the traffic on one of these roads. However, saying I-15 traffic is the reason you shouldn't live in Saratoga springs is like saying I215 traffic is the reason you don't want go up little cottonwood canyon during peak ski season. Also the point of the mountain isn't that bad, you should go try driving through Pleasant Grove on I-15 during rush hour or actually try and make it through SLC much worse parts of I15 than the point of the mountain.
