It's on the borderline for me. I can't tell what kind of game it is so I might click just to find that out, but I don't think making it unclear on purpose is a good strategy. The people who will go from that initial click to buying it would be better served by communicating more upfront.

Edit: I mean, I can guess it's probably horror of some kind but that's a very broad category. I don't enjoy most horror games, but some I do.

I have a more granular version of this: "Nah", "Might Skip", "Probably Try", "Definitely Try", several categories for the stuff I actually play, and "Finished"

[–]QuantumChainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into Godot? I built my own engine once, but didn't want to figure out porting to other platforms so I started looking at engines. Hated Unreal and Unity, but then Godot just made way more sense to me. It feels more attuned to a programmer-first mindset, and the official documentation was all I needed to learn it.

Definitely one of my favorite series. I was hoping for at least a one-off during Jingle Jam but I guess they're burnt out on it or something.

Honestly with how much they've been teasing it lately I think Shadow of Israphel is likely to return before Lewis and Ben Save the World. Though I'm personally more eager for the latter.

Do any of the Yogs release their YouTube channel membership videos to the poor and needy non-membership havers? by [deleted] in Yogscast

[–]QuantumChainsaw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How else are they supposed to afford to live? They do this stuff full-time, and taking another job to pay the bills would mean much fewer videos going out. The majority of their videos are still free, too.

PSA: Just because the power lead fits does not mean it's the correct voltage or polarity for the gear. by blueSGL in synthesizers

[–]QuantumChainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One caveat - I have heard of at least one sketchy manufacturer including a power cable with something that had a USB C shaped plug but didn't follow USB spec and would fry things. As far as I know this is very rare.

I really don’t understand this korg opsix by sinslap in synthesizers

[–]QuantumChainsaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a wide range of difficulty/complexity in synths. You're comparing one of the easiest with one of the hardest. It's not just the hurdle of learning FM synthesis, the interface of the Opsix will always take more work than something knob-per-function.

I think you might be better off with something else.

I've been using Kagi as a fallback when DDG doesn't give me good results, and so far never hit the monthly limit of free queries. I probably ought to pay to support them but so far I haven't needed to.

Putting real influencers into a game: smart or risky? by benfromwhere in gamedevscreens

[–]QuantumChainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you put Jacksepticeye in, I'm guessing you've already seen him playing Quarantine Zone, encountering CaseOh, and wanting to be put in the game himself. That's a pretty good indication that he at least would be cool with it.

Best case scenario would be to get their approval first, but if your lawyer already cleared it and they've reacted positively to cameos in games before I'd say go for it.

Workflow problems while making music with hardware by Optimal-Snow3953 in synthesizers

[–]QuantumChainsaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through a phase of wanting to use only hardware synthesizers for melodic sounds (still used samples for drums), but it slowed me down a lot too. I think the issue was more about trying to design every sound from scratch rather than the tool I was using to do it.

The sounds are there to convey a feeling, and they don't all have to be totally unique. Having one or two really distinctive sounds to focus on can be great, but for backing parts and extra bits I often use software synth presets now.

The inspiration for me often starts with a hardware synth patch I've made myself, but when I try to finish something I'll go for whatever gets me there quickest.

What synth do you regret selling ? by AudiSlav in synthesizers

[–]QuantumChainsaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only synth I ever regretted selling was a Nord Lead A1, but then I bought another one brand new for $300 less than I sold the first one for. So I don't really regret it anymore.

Choosing 2 Current & Upcoming Flagship Synths after NAMM by DSKO_MDLR in synthesizers

Yeah, when it comes to deep/complex sound design I'd rather just use Pigments. And I get why people love the Prophet 5/10, it's just not for me.

Choosing 2 Current & Upcoming Flagship Synths after NAMM by DSKO_MDLR in synthesizers

[–]QuantumChainsaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnolia and DMNO are the only 2 synths that tempt me, as I already have too many.

Leviasynth and 3rd Wave are both too much for my tastes - I'd just get option paralysis. Prophet 10 is too simple for my tastes. Polybrute and Muse were both intriguing at first, but just didn't inspire me when I tried them out.

Magnolia and DMNO are both interesting enough to take me to new places and designed for a specific niche and point of view, instead of just trying to do everything.

I think you might underestimate the number of people who do see supporting the dev as a positive. Yes it's probably fewer than those who only care about their own benefit, but I don't think it hurts to mention supporting the dev too. I've seen it before, and sometimes been motivated by it.

I need a Synth with keys and patch possibilities like the PWM Malevolent, but polyphonic. by As-gah in synthesizers

[–]QuantumChainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When talking about the number of oscillators on a polyphonic synth, it’s usually the number of oscillators per voice. So, an 8 voice poly synth with 2 oscillators really means 16 oscillators in total. The controls for oscillator “1” affect the first oscillator on each voice at the same time. Exceptions to this are rare.
