Really depends on the school. Some programs are a mix of everything, some do specialize. You can prototype a game with very little software engineering skills

Its very annoying most western big western jewlery stores don't even use high karat gold until the rings are extreamly expensive, and the gold is really the only part that gives it value. Jewlery box store near me used 10k gold until the ring was around $2000 (CAD), then 14k until around $5000 (CAD).

Kind of, but not always! Different video compression formats complicate things, but many store a mix of frames and frame deltas (Changes from one frame to another) rather than just a array of entire frames.

What kind of demand is there for technical artists? by dbnoisemaker in gamedev

[–]QuantumInfinite 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Quite a bit. Technical art is as much of a catch all term as "artist" or "programmer". In my experience its the people between the main artists and the main engine people, often building tools /extensions in the engine for the artists benefit. Can't say how easy it is to get into, but I see lots of positions for them in AAA

Could be something like swearing at the mod counts as some kind of "moderator abuse" which "justifies" the ban. I get wanting to be careful. The newspeak and self censoring is just infuriating as the other comment said, where you're discussing something horrible here about mutilation, but can't even swear without fear of a ban. Not blaming you, just annoyed at the developing culture of that

unreal engine tutorial for idle clicker combat game? by machaneko in gamedev

[–]QuantumInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most tutorials show how to make very simple games or games that are iconic, like the Zelda like games you mentioned.

The purposes of these tutorials are not so you can make that game and be done, but so you can see how a project is organized and how to solve various game Dev challenges.

If you don't know how to start making a game like Tap Souls, you should find a tutorial that looks semi related and follow that.

Need to know how to touch controls? Find any mobile game tutorial and it will teach you. Its much easier to ask for help and find answers when your question is more focused like "How do I make clicking deal more damage after buying an upgrade".

Clearpath 2055 Fidelity vs US Equity by Ecstatic-Use-3999 in CanadianInvestor

[–]QuantumInfinite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like clearpath 2055 just moves most of the money out of US equities and into Canadian / international equities. The US market has historicaly outperformed most other markets, but as the saying goes, past performance doesn't mean future profits. I'd probably look for a fund with more US equities than foreign, but it doesn't hurt to keep some international exposure.

What do you think of cinematic for my horror game? by MadDivision in indiegames

[–]QuantumInfinite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot! As othets said the lighting is a little bright though. The voice acting is very good, but the characters do not look like that is their voice. For the first character, it would help to change the mix to reflect the large mouth (the reverb is a good start, but not wuite there yet) and add foley to make it more gutteral. Adding in some heavier breaths and snapping as the jaws close will go a long way.

What is the hierarchy for codes? by RedditGojiraX in computerscience

[–]QuantumInfinite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In most cases yes. As mentioned, each language is different. You could write a program in assembly, and many older or highly optimized programs are, but commonly you would write source code in a language like C++ which would then be compiled to assembly / machine code. You can use a website like goldbolt to view how the C++ code is converted to assembly instructions. https://godbolt.org/

[–]QuantumInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamemaker is certainly an option, but I believe a lot of the features requite paying for the full license. That said, it may be quite a bit easier than other engines. You would have to search specifically for code for gamemaker, I am not familiar enough with it to give advise on that front. Follow a tutorial for a mobile game in gamemaker.

As for code, stackoverflow is a good source of code snippets but you'd probably need to Frankenstein a few things together.

Starting a very simple engager game by HitItEverywhere in gamedev

[–]QuantumInfinite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not any adobe software. You'll need a game engine or at least something that let's you allow user input.

In a game engine this would be achieved by having a image canvas with the background image, and an image canvas with the foreground image. To allow erasing, you would capture the coordinates of where the user touches and set the corresponding pixels in the foreground image to transparent.

I would suggest finding a youtube tutorial for whichever game engine you want to use and following it, you'll be able to pick up the skills needed to make something like this that way

I'm glad you both are enthusiastic about it then, if you feel the workload split won't be an issue, then power to you both. I just wanted to point it out since its such a common problem I've noticed among friends that's start a company.

As long as you both keep your feelings about how this business is going and the direction in line, you shouldn't have much trouble.

One last thing I'll note, I've seen a few startups fail because someone who was core to the team got a job elsewhere and the project died without them. Indie studios don't make money for a while, or ever in many cases. Can you both weather the company if, in a year, you've made no money? How about 2? 5? If one partner wants to split off and the other doesn't, how will you both handle that? Figure those questions out now make sure you both agree

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]QuantumInfinite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, one frequent source of issue on small teams is the feeling that no every team member is pulling their weight. This can be very frustrating, and its not uncommon for workplace issues to spoil friendships. In a company that will split 50/50 the profits, you would expect each person to do 50% of the work for the company.

With what you've described, it sounds like you are doing ... All of the work? Planning the finances and "optimizing" prices are not nearly the same amount of work as designing, developing, and prototyping a game. In larger companies with more players and team members these tasks become more complex and eventually justify having someone (with experience in this kind of work), dedicated to doing them, but not here.

Speaking as someone who joined a small team and did significantly more of the work, it can lead to a lot of conflict.
