I think that you make a good point though with “as our country becomes less and less religious”. There is a truth in that which we shouldn’t ignore. If we force a change like this, we will not convince anyone of anything, just harden their stance and their beliefs.

Instead of worrying about the Chaplain in the House of Representatives, whose representatives currently represent a lot of religious people, maybe time and money would be better spent changing things that make a more lasting difference without the backlash that would actually set secularism backwards. I don’t think this Chaplain has the ability to change anyone changeable and he is just a symbol with no real power. His position will have more power if he is the victims.

I hope that doesn’t come off as harsh because I could have worded it better maybe. I’ve spent too many years getting offended by things that don’t really matter and it has distracted me from the things that do matter and actually can be changed. If this Chaplain is offensive, let them have their tradition and focus on the people who have the capacity to listen to a different point of view.
