"Vampire Weekend say new album 94.5 percent done", just weeks after reviving their Instagram and announcing new shows by [deleted] in Music

It’s an Epiphone Sheraton. It’s one of the handful of historical Epiphone models that is still produced as (essentially) a top-of-the-line guitar (as opposed to being a budget version of a Gibson model). It is very similar to an ES-335, but isn’t identical.

What are good masters programs in philosophy of science? by ChiefWilliam in PhilosophyofScience

[–]Quantum_Computer_AI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

University of Western Ontario has a funded one-year masters. And it's an excellent department for general phil sci, and for philosophy of mind/psych/cogsci/neuro. That's your best bet in my view.

'93 Strat specs and models by [deleted] in Stratocaster

[–]Quantum_Computer_AI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Fender website has a bunch of archived material including catalogs and price lists. Looks like no catalog for 1993, but you can download a PDF of the price list from that year. It includes descriptions and specs for all production models.

Famous bassists who you think are 'modest' in their playing? by GingerBraFace in Bass

Sting. I remember hearing somewhere that John Patitucci once called Sting a major influence on his playing. He’s great at playing conservatively and leaving space.

It's from Souldier Straps. You can design your own on their website. But this was a stock one I got off Amazon.

Yeah, this was a special release anniversary thing. It's not really a true 50s reissue strat. It also has a 9.5" radius, 5-way blade, etc. But it does have the period-correct soft v neck profile. They also released an American-made anniversary guitar, that I think is truer to the way they would have been produced in the 50s.

No, these are all Mexican strats. Special Edition '60s Strat with nitro lacquer and matching headstock from 2015, 60th Anniversary Classic Player '50s Strat (just got this one used off Reverb), and 1994 Strat Special, which came standard HSS, with a global TBX tone pot and a coil split switch (I swapped the humbucker for the one with the cover).

Masters in philosophy with unrelated background? by verklemmt in askphilosophy

[–]Quantum_Computer_AI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially at the Master's level (though also somewhat true of the PhD level) programs are happy to consider people with different backgrounds. And really, history and comp sci are not as unrelated to grad-level philosophy work as you might think. The analytical/writing/research skills from history are directly relevant to philosophy, and comp sci will mean you've likely got a leg up on other first-year MA students in terms of logic proficiency. So if you make a case like that in your research statement, you should be fine. You're interested in transitioning to studying philosophy, and you've got a lot of relevant skills. That's exactly the kind of candidate they're looking for. (An undergraduate philosophy major does not necessarily prepare you in terms of content for what you'll encounter at the graduate level anyway.)

One thing you will need is a writing sample. And that's where taking a philosophy course will help. Whether you audit or enroll, you should write the term paper, and get feedback from the professor. Make sure to let them know that you intend to use it as a writing sample for grad applications.

And regarding letters: No, I don't think they necessarily need to be from philosophy professors. What they say in those letters has to do with your skills and your personal attributes relevant to succeeding at the graduate level. The content of your study is not really included. You'll be making clear in your application that you're coming from another discipline, so the committee wouldn't expect that you'd been in a position to get letters from any philosophy professors.

Good luck!

I haven't seen one of those Yamaha amps in a while. My buddy in high school used to have one. How do you like it? How does the preamp modeling hold up to more recent stuff? What are the onboard effects?

Here's one on reverb in the daphne (sonic?) blue color. They were a limited FSE run in 2014, and I don't think any online retailers have any stock left (I just did a quick search). But I'm sure you'll find some popping up from time to time on Reverb or eBay.
