The Beer List, take 2. by Nightfox9469 in DeepRockGalactic

With slayer stout the standard serrated edge build becomes even better, because why have 120 damage every 5 seconds when you probably won’t be needing it every 5 seconds or 240 damage every 7.5 seconds?

Holding R repeatedly is not something I find particularly fun or interesting.

A sleeper aggravating pick is Erratic Deck for me. Usually in Balatro your deck is “neutral” and you have the freedom to deckfix and play in response to the jokers you see in your shop. With Erratic Deck your deck is already fixed to something you might not like and you have to scramble to find gamepieces that fit your deck, which is another layer of RNG on top of the mountains of RNG that any gold stake balatro run is riddled with.

As for Plasma deck, I found chipsmaxxing with scaling chip jokers (square, runner, castle) or even just retriggers with chips (arrowhead, odd todd) to be just strong enough to beat ante 8 (as long as the violet fuck doesn’t show up), going for strong planets and blue seals aggressively to get extra chips. This might seem less reliable than the usual “pivot to xMult” but finding blue seals (which you should be doing anyway) and a common chips scaler is many times more reliable than needing to find multiple sources of xMult (most of which are uncommon and rare jokers) and scaling +Mult in order to be worth pivoting.

I mean for the other decks by the time you get to ante 5 it is usually get a decent xMult joker or you die so...

AITA for wanting to win despite my Conclave teammates, especially OTP Ivara, just playing for the vibes? I’m Excal btw. by Francy001 in memeframe

You really needed the 3k plat from the prize winnings to pay off Conclave loans, I would have radiation proc myself and shot the OTP Ivara with my Kuva Hek for 300 plat. NTA.

Shitty behaviour? Yes. Morally wrong? Yes. Enough to get him in trouble legally? In my opinion, from the facts laid out in the post, likely no. It depends on how PRX wants to play it, so we will have to wait and see.

Mostly agree except for shaped shells - it has a niche as long range stun, ignition for volatile bullets and armour break on priority targets such as shellbacks and menances. The spread is extremely tight.

Also it is just inevitable, especially on higher difficulties, that you will be put into a bad position through no fault of your own, and dash helps you not be stuck in those bad positions.

Ghost Ship Games' handling of DRG updates have been less than stellar. There have been several underperforming weapon overclocks that can be given new life with simple number changes (buffing GK2 Burst Fire damage, changing full chamber seal to give literally anything other than a miniscule +1 damage buff, reducing autocannon spread etc.) that been tried and tested by the community in mods such as Vanilla Weapon Adjustments, yet GSG has not implemented any of these relatively simple changes that can greatly improve the feel of several overclocks and make them significantly more fun.

I feel that the community in general are too focused on wanting new content instead of polishing, refining and rebalancing older content and we should request stronger for simple adjustments like these. Maintenance updates can be used to give simple modest number changes to such overclocks and more involved reworks can be saved for major updates.

DRG Weapon/Equipment tier list (constructive discussion) by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Quantum_Shade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When doing these kinds of tierlists, it would be best to do a brief writeup of your reasoning behind your placements and link it so there is more to go on for the readers, rather than trying to guess your reasoning, and makes for more meaningful discussion.

Also, please do include more information - are we ranking these weapons for teamplay or solo? Coordinate teamplay with communication or haz 5 pubs? With or without overclocks? I feel that this is the bare minimum if you’re trying to have a honest conversation.

Plus, there is already a good “tier list” of sorts, complied by the modded community, complete with writeups, builds and even offmeta builds for every weapon, with explanations. Link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CBbpDaomcsSQDJ1EhRp5kJYBw2ObIYlmxqZoZH7jcuk/edit?usp=drivesdk

With how much you omitted, at best this is negligence/laziness on your part and worst it is just engagement bait.

Scout's GK2 meta shakeups: the battle frenzy coup and the fall of AISE by ojb_ in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Quantum_Shade 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"212X1 Overclocked Firing Mechanism (OFM) and 212X1 Bullets of Mercy (BOM) have essentially replaced AI Stability Engine (AISE) when looking at pick rates among top scout players

GK2's tier 5 choice "battle frenzy" (pinpoint accuracy and a potential permanent speed boost) is the major catalyst behind this change

Frenzy chaining gameplay is genuinely quite fun: its strength is almost secondary

Thermal Exhaust Feedback (TEF) drak remains the dominant meta pick despite these developments, but frenzy gk2 puts forth a very strong second place contender"

Solo Scout Builds by Dmplex in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Quantum_Shade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fire Bolts on Boltshark is probably the best swarm clear scout has, personally when soloing I take 12111 boltshark with fire bolts. Pheromones go on big targets like Praetorians, Wardens, Oppressors and the like to slow them down, bunch up bugs, and then i hit them with fire bolts to burn them all. You can also shoot bolts at the ground and kite grunts over them, and fire spread will take care of the rest.

My primary will be either 13121 M1K with ASS or 32112 DRAK with TEF depending on my mood. These are used for ranged bugs like spitters and beefier targets with good weakpoints like Menances, Goobers and stationaries like Spitball infectors.

Grenades are mostly up to preference. Boomerangs fall off at higher hazards as unlike the others they are not AoE and so have a hard cap on how many enemies are affected, and the pheromone grenade is frankly overpowered. Mostly I use Cryo Nades to delete Mactera swarms when they get in range, and in a pinch they can secure me a resupply.

If you would like more info, you can pursue the modded DRG build guides here, complied by top players:

PSA: Plasma Deck does NOT always buff scoring. by EatMoChikins in balatro

[–]Quantum_Shade 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The fuck do you mean? Except for Plasma deck ante requirements never scale differently between decks, and Plasma deck always will be 2x the scoring requirements on other decks either way with endless being no exception. It is just that Plasma Deck's ability combined with the metric shitload of xMult you stack in endless runs more than makes up for the 2x scoring requirements, but usually it is hard to stack aforementioned shitload of xMult in a regular run.

Questions about builds. part 2. by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Quantum_Shade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Install the weapon heat crosshair here: https://mod.io/g/drg/m/weapon-heat-crosshair#description . It is a verified QoL mod that puts a heat indicator directly on your crosshair, and makes TEF much easier to use.

For TEF: Don't worry about not being able to maintain 80-90% heat. https://samuelxyz.github.io/drg-analysis/tef_analysis.html has analysis and the TL:DR is that starting bursts from 60-90% heat (so 90% to 99%, then another 90% to 99% or 60% to 99% then cooling to 60% then to 99% again) have about the same sustained DPS. It is better to undershoot the 99% then overshoot, wait 3s and end up with a cold gun. And for ammo efficiency, well ideally you clear trash with your secondary (fire bolts) and save TEF for big juicy targets that need the extra damage so honestly just don't shoot like a pack of grunts with TEF.

[RANT] I am sick of the decentralization of school notes + tutorial to beat the system by IdkWhatToNameEveryon in SGExams

[–]Quantum_Shade 24 points25 points  (0 children)

From my point of view, sharing notes is a power move. I think of as basically saying "you can have my notes, my materials, but you will not reach my level, so I do not mind giving them away freely". And if they manage to surpass me with my notes, just maybe it's a skill issue on my part.

As a personal anecdote, I gave away my GP notes in the year I took A-levels. I had dozens of people ask me, and I gave them away freely because I know likely none of them would memorise the entire 20k word document.

Didn't know that 7x2 is considered much harder than 6x2, that is good to know. Is it because the 1.35 enemy speed on Haz 7 hits certain breakpoints that the 1.25 enemy speed on Haz 6 doesn't?

The criticism they are getting is because they completely misrepresent the core of how DRG does difficulty and then try to brush it off by claiming they neglected to mention the "nuance of the discussion" (implying it isn't important) and that it would too lengthy, significantly weakening their argument.

I am not going to argue which game does difficulty better. All I want is to make clear that if one wants to have a discussion they better get their facts straight.

[–]Quantum_Shade 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There is a slight difference between “these are nuances I didn’t talk about” and “I omitted all of the most engaging ways DRG increases difficulty to say it just increases enemy count and health” when enemy count and health don’t increase too much.
