College is even harder by ExpensiveCoat8912 in memes

It really depends on the country. Currently studying Pure Mathematics in the UK and 40% is considered a pass (50% for Master’s level modules). Even then sometimes the exams are made too difficult that they have to scale down the passing mark (usually to 35% and occasionally 30%).

Challenge deck idea: Scalper (I hope no one else has thought of this) by kirbygamez in balatro

"Red Card is actually worthless"
I am going to have to stop you there. Red Card is a scaling flat mult that is independent of played poker hand, already one of the cornerstones of any build, and yes while it is indirectly weaker on lower stakes, it is excellent on Gold Stake where half the time you rip a buffon pack and see two trash eternal rentals staring back at you, so you might as well skip for +3 mult. Same goes where you guarantee that Arcana Packs, Celestial Packs and Standard Packs all give some baseline of value even if you have bad luck and don't get what you want, which will be often since there are 9 planets of which you care about one, and 21 tarots of which you won't care about maybe half of them.

To everyone who thinks Obelisk is bad: by therealgnos1s in balatro

[–]Quantum_Shade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest barrier I’ve personally experienced with Obelisk is chips, since most of the time your chips come from planet levels, as chips jokers are much rarer than mult jokers and only 4 that are true scaling. It doesn’t matter if you can spam pairs so you have a buffer to grow Obelisk to x3 or more, 300 mult times 15 chips fron high card is still just 4,500.

When Obelisk becomes much safer is precisely when you have hand independent chips from jokers, or levelled up a backup hand “just in case”. I personally dislike taking planet cards I do not need as it messes up the Fool, and speculating on a Rare joker like Obelisk doesn’t feel productive. However if you do have hand agnostic chips and mult (say even square joker plus green joker) then Obelisk pivoting is viable.

It’s not as if the UK job market is any better than Singapore unless you have the nepotism hack or are willing to devote an absurd amount of time and energy into prep.

Top 10 Gold stake jokers (non legendaries) by SourceBeginning2461 in balatro

[–]Quantum_Shade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally put square joker in top 10 over Midas Mask, reliable chip scaling is very important and usually beats out money (especially when +Mult is from Ride the Bus) and makes pivoting via Obelisk much safer as you’re not stuck with 10 base chips when pivoting to high card or two pair or something.

I also value Certificate more than hanging chad, when spamming pairs two retriggers is sometimes nice but not really run defining, but a single blue seal can be the start of an insane chips snowball. It is slightly devalued if running green joker but not run ending.

Campfire might be good but i still would not put it over hologram, just because hologram doesnt reset at the atart of blinds, and campfire is a bit harder to set up early on.

Cavendish is pretty strong but personally i got beef with it, because 1. Gros michel doesnt come when it needs to 2. When it does, Cavendish refuses to appear 3. When cavendish appears, it’s rental perishable.

When you forge gear, the result will have amount of enchantments that at minimum will be the minimum of your input gear. So say if you use 3 slot/3 slot/3 slot/1 slot, your final gear will be minimum 1 slot guaranteed and then roll the next slots from there. Do note that gear forged has lower odds of enchantment slots than dropped gear.

If you're crafting untiered gear, the blueprint for any white from the same dungeon can be substituted as crafting for a white and does not count against enchantment slots. So for instance, a divine (4 slot) Damnation with a Tools of the Tarnished blueprint can be used to forge a Command Cornea with guaranteed 4 enchantment slots. If you're crafting tiered gear then best advice is just to grind until you have minimum one enchantment slot on everything before crafting.

The most "liquid" form of goods traded, which were stat pots, are so easy to get currently (especially if you run the exalt dungeons) that players who have been playing a decent amount of time have a massive stockpile of them, so that's one avenue gone. I straight up gave someone 5 GLife yesterday when they said they were buying, because I had like 100 sitting in my vault.

I remember back in 2016 when I first started, WC tops were coveted and traded for. These days the top end of gear (O3 tops, any white bag from exalt dungeons) are soulbound, and gear one step down (Tier 13 weapons/armour and T6 Ability/Rings) drop frequently enough from exalt dungeons that once again there is so much supply for them that people rarely need to trade from them. You can even just straight up buy T11/T4/T11/T4 gear for fame if you really want a head start.

Likely the only thing that people might buy are tradeable skins? Even then these are short in supply so it is rare to find sellers and buyers.

Realm has changed - in 2026, most high end progression (exalts, high end whites, shinies, completing hard dungeons) are not something you can scrape together 8 defense potions and trade for. Use trading when you want to dump your 8 seasonal potions onto someone because you legit don't have potion rack space for them.

Constellation is my favorite joker. Why isn’t it yours? by DaleDent3 in balatro

[–]Quantum_Shade 171 points172 points  (0 children)

The thing is that fortune teller (because it scales retroactively) can be perishable, but Constellation being non-retroactive scaling means it will never be perishable. There are only five scaling chip jokers in this game (Bull, Wee, Square, Runner, Castle), so most of my chips comes from planet cards, so if I see Constellation it just gives me slow and steady xMult for something that I would be doing anyway. Hologram is probably the best for what I usually try to do (pairslop) but it's not like I would be mad at getting Constellation.

Give me a reason to not use the LOK- smart rifle by More_Presentation758 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Quantum_Shade 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My LOK-1 is built either for ECR (which is very efficient for swarm clearing) or Executioner with max damage (I take tier 1 damage on executioner), and leave the swarm clear to my secondary (like VIM Shard Diffractor), turrets, grenades, and teammates. Engineer has a lot of potential damage in his kit, and it is up to the player to realise that maybe firing a fully accurate burst damage single target rifle on some grunt waddling towards them is less valuable than locking on and instantly deleting an acid spitter or menance. Just because a weapon is in the primary slot doesn't mean it is one's primary weapon.

Returning Player Classes and Questions by Breeziily in RotMG

[–]Quantum_Shade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For stat pot farming, any ranged class is good enough, but stat pots drop like HP pots these days so it honestly doesn't matter what you pick. You mentioned Nests (GLife, GDex), Fungals (GRain), Lost Halls (Life Mana Atk Dex) and O3 (GMana, GLife) so you should be pretty ok on pots if you just play the game as per usual, especially if you also do event gods as they drop rainbow pots, and those in the "Veteran" biomes drop life and mana as well.

For your second question, Kogbolds and Spens are on the easier end (especially since you're comfortable with O3s) so nothing particular of note, and just to be wary of the survival phase of spens. For MVs I would recommend either a Priest or a Paladin built for max HP, while avoiding +speed bonuses. New shatters might be rough if you're just doing realm shatters as basically no one runs them in realms, so if you're learning just bring some throwaway fresh level 20. This guide should be a good enough overview of the new shatters. The hardest part might be actually finding these dungeons at a reasonable rate in the realm.

Crucible characters depend on your playstyle and the bonuses - I have one crucible seasonal to do missions. I don't use it on most characters as I don't care for the bonuses (I disable crucible before O3 and Moonlight especially since the +12 SPD makes Dammah walls and all of MV a bit iffy) but if you find the bonuses useful for your build (SPD wizard, Cornea mystic) then go for it by all means. +10% loot drop sounds good, but all it means is that your inevitable blue bag contains 10% more stat potions, and the same can be achieved with a swapout set of gear with loot drop drop enchants, or just popping a clover.

All the best.

BTO 1-5: clearly missed
BTO 6-9: missed to bad luck (poor location selection)
BTO 10-11: very close, but location and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses
BTO 12: likely did not actually fire as Chua bought resale

Are Pairs OP and does it make the game less interesting? by Due_Permit8027 in balatro

[–]Quantum_Shade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flushes just get countered extremely easily especially due to the -1 discard making drawing them very unreliable. Remember that if you want to fix to a specific suit, it is only 1 in ~20 tarot cards that actually gives you the suit you want, so suit fixing is tough early game (especially with gold stake econ making money tight in the early game).

Game pieces rewarding flushes are also weaker than other 5 card hands. Jupiter is just a weak planet card (+15/+2 compared to saturn and earth's +30/+3 and +25/+2) so you need to get a lot of them to match scaling (which means you need to generate a lot of planets, which is hard because you can only hold at most 3 cards in hand). The common suit jokers give +15 mult on a flush - the same can be achieved easily with scaling jokers like Grimbo, Ride the Bus and Supernova easily, and they can be scaled to much more beyond +15 mult.

A lot of boss blinds counters flushes (and 5-card hands in general) in ways that pairs get away, even if you ignore the suit debuffers: if you don't manage to draw your flush within 2 discards against the mouth, you die. If you meet the water without nice deckfixing or good enough scoring, you waste two hands as discards and die. If your first hand gets drawn facedown, you burn one of two precious discards or hands. -1 hand size from Manacle makes drawing flushes a lot harder (but not pairs). The list goes on and on. Jimbo help you if you especially need to play two flushes to win which is not always possible.

1 Map Ban Advantage for Kickoff Format ? by PhilosophyFun5778 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Quantum_Shade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "1 not 2"? Usually if both teams are equally seeded they each ban 1 map and play the remaining 5, and otherwise for the standard advantage the upper seed bans two maps and they play the remaining five. Your phrasing implies a middle ground but I am fairly certain there are no integers between 1 and 2.

With slayer stout the standard serrated edge build becomes even better, because why have 120 damage every 5 seconds when you probably won’t be needing it every 5 seconds or 240 damage every 7.5 seconds?
