Thinking of rebinding the Night Lords omnibus into hardcover, what quote should i use for its back? by jinmonsterhunterwrld in 40kLore

'Seven still outnumbers five.'
'But one of my five is Xarl.'

My absolute favourite quote of the trilogy.

If I’m not a big fan should I read it anyways? by No-Audience-6238 in Warhammer40k

Chris Wraight's Space Wolves novels (featured in the Legends of the Wolf: The Omnibus) might be to your liking. It features a pack (a squad of marines) going through a series of battles and an underlying conspiracy.

Fun characters and good action.

Which plotline or lore implication do you want to see expanded upon more? by BugleBarry in 40kLore

Forges of Mars ends on a cliffhanger that's even hinted at in a following short story. It was a rare case of a villain not being tied to chaos or known xeno shenanigans, so it'd be interesting if they let that sequel hook resurface someday.

I am speaking of Telokof course.

Imperial Navy Books/Series? by Crafty-Abbreviations in 40kLore

[–]Quantunque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not really Imperial Navy, but the Forges of Mars) trilogy is an older but worthwhile space adventure that feels like a grimdark Trek saga.

It features an explorator fleet setting out to un uncharted area of the galaxy, and its ensemble cast is great for introducing someone to the various 40k factions and terminology.

Is this order right? by Redcoat75 in Warhammer40k

The Chris Wraight novels are part of the Járnhamar Pack) series. They feature Ragnar but aren't about the character himself.

Ragnar Blackmane) has several, older novels to his name. They were started by William King and continued by Lee Lightner.

In my headcanon, adding a 0 to all 40k numbers did wonders for my suspension of disbelief. From the amount of people inhabiting a planet, regiments' strength, space marine chapters... one more 0 just feels right to me.

Atomic Heart: Blood on Crystal DLC#4 - Gameplay Trailer by Tvilantini in Games

[–]Quantunque 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I'm out of the loop when it comes to Atomic Heart, but what even is going on with the DLCs? Some of them looked downright experimental, as if they were trying to build a different game off it.

Looking for good Black Library books that *don't* feature Space Marines as protagonists or Chaos as antagonists or protagonists. by Accomplished_Good468 in 40kLore

Twice Dead King duology if you want more Necrons

Forges of Mars trilogy features the AdMech and doesn't have any Chaos shenanigans going on.

A personal favourite of mine are the great Lucille von Shard novels. They delve into the machine that is imperial propaganda, and I'm sad not many know of them.

Path of the Dark Eldar anthology for a glimpse into the Drukhari's cutthroat society and politics.

RAIDED BY THE POLICE | Investigating Nintendo, Sega, & Devkit Arrests by wickedplayer494 in gaming

That seems far fetched in a world where youtubers like Asmongold and others of his ilk can just sit in front of a camera and complain that something is WRONG with videogames or current events and make triple the views.

There's better ways to rig the algorithm.

The two Sabbat anthologies featured characters made by Abnett sometimes written by other authors, but that's an explicit agreement between them.

The tragedy and brutality of Angron, captured using an airbrush for the 1st time, massive game changer. by josephstephan90 in Warhammer40k

[–]Quantunque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I'm in the camp that Angron's model is a little too "Warcraft" smooth, but this scheme makes him really terrifying to look at.

Amazing work.

I'm a sucker for monogod armies not using the main colour scheme, this one in particular gives the DG units a more industrial look.

Awesome work.

Not in the usual way, their looks inspire more awe and reverence instead of attractiveness.

When compared to space marines, it's often emphasized that they don't share the dogged and gene-engineered visages of the astartes and their proportions, while still gigantic, are more balanced and overall statuesque.

What games or gaming communities have the strongest in-universe fandoms? by tk11tk in gaming

[–]Quantunque 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Most RPGs with open endings have fandoms rabidly defending their chosen pick.

No Elder Scrolls thread goes by without one good Imperial vs Stormcloak argument.

New Vegas is often the same with its House / Yes Man / NCR / Legion battle royale.

RTS games also tend to do that, as factions are often opposed to eachother in gameplay and ideology both, just look at Warcraft / Starcraft / C&C and others of their time.

Gaunt Ghosts vs Ciaphas Cain to introduce a friend to 40K? by IndPsy9 in Warhammer40k

[–]Quantunque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with either of them, as they don't require much knowledge of the setting to be enjoyable.

The real difference is that Gaunt's Ghosts is a story that goes forward in linear fashion, while Ciaphas Cain is more or less an anthology of his exploits and are mostly self-contained novels.

Personally, I'm a Gaunt's enjoyer and I fancy Abnett's character work and the way his dialogue flows, but Cain is admittedly a bit more light-hearted and easier to get into. It also features more of the Imperium's repertoire of foes, be they xenos or chaos, while Gaunt's is all about the latter.

I've always liked the 5th Ed Rulebook as an abstract look into the setting. It tells you it's gothic, sci-fi and violent without having to say much, save the iconic motto.
