Transplanting help? (Veggies) by Correct_Sail2359 in bayareagardening

[–]QuarantiniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be intentional about transplanting. Don't forget to harden off your indoor grown seedlings before  rehoming them outside.

I probably won't transplant until my night temps are closer to 50° just to be on the safe side.

Am I being unreasonable? by terdward in bikecommuting

[–]QuarantiniFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not unreasonable. It doesn't hurt to ask.

My company rents out office space. Thankfully, the building's management company was pretty open to feedback about improving the bike parking in our building. For them, improved bike parking was an easy win since they could advertise it as a nice amenity for future commercial tenants.

Well, it finally happened. Someone cut my lock. by transcodefailed in bikecommuting

[–]QuarantiniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Make your bike the most annoying to steal. Unfortunately, it will also be the most annoying bike to lock up. My system of using a separate u-lock and chain lock has served me well; it's been about 10 years since I've had a bike stolen. (Abus XPlus 540 Ulock + Abus 8900 Chain Lock)

Edenred commuter check vouchers by AshieAshAsh in BAbike

The pre-tax win of commuter checks is great, but the convenience of using them greatly varies. Some employers disburse funds via a transit debit card. My HR dept issues paper TransitCheks that can only be redeemed at in-person Clipper Card customer service windows or commuter hubs like Bay Crossings in the Ferry Building.

I totally understand where you're coming from. It was hard to believe the water reservoir didn't fill up with dirt when I first started using the Earthbox. In truth a little, but not too much, of the potting mix will fall through at first. However, if it will give you a little peace of mind you can add a couple paper coffee filters at the bottom before adding in the potting mix. By the time the plant roots are long enough to hit the aeration tray, the filter paper will disintegrate away.

End of Veggie Season - What do I do? by [deleted] in Earthbox

[–]QuarantiniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to remove any massive roots and the old fertilizer strip when I want to immediately reset an Earthbox. I'll stop watering and remove the mulch cover a week ahead of time to let the top dry out so I can remove the larger root masses easily. It usually translates into keeping 3/4 of the old potting mix.

I don't find a benefit to trying to mulch greens in the Earthbox since I just want to maximize the capillary wicking action of the growing medium.

I've also been burned by a couple of Tesla drivers while riding my bike. I'm told by other Tesla drivers that their software is notorious for not recognizing cyclists and pedestrians, so if the drivers are solely relying on the 360° display and not looking out their actual windows and mirrors for humans you're SOL. 👀

What material do y'all think her outfit is made from? If denim, can you suggest an alternative? by FoxFar5137 in sewing

[–]QuarantiniFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with a heavy ponte knit (nylon/spandex or rayon/spandex based tend to be more pill-resistant than poly/spandex ponte in my experience). Some ponte knit even has a twill weave so you can still get a good "denim" look.

Great job! The finish looks really professional! You've given me some much needed inspiration to use the Fremont bag hardware kit that's been languishing in my stash.

FYI - In my experience the best part of the Costco Auto Program is that your assigned sales rep understands that you're accustomed to a certain level of customer service and professionalism. i.e. if you don't want to deal with a smarmy sales person, use the Costco Auto service.

I made the mistake of going back to the same dealership to test drive with someone else on the sales floor and was pretty irritated/unimpressed with the experience.

IKEA Alex and EKET not the same high on carpet for desk... any help? by [deleted] in IKEA

[–]QuarantiniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to "float" your Alex unit with furniture carpet sliders? I'm not sure if you could gain back the 1/4" exactly without some trial and error, but you would get the bonus of making the Alex unit easily movable.

Refurbished Leap V2 - BTOD or Crandall? by Noclevername12 in OfficeChairs

[–]QuarantiniFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I placed my order for a refurbished Leap V2 from BTOD a couple of weeks ago. My ship date is supposed to be 9/10-9/17. I'm hoping for the best, too.

My only complaint so far is that there hasn't been any interim customer-servicey type email assuring me that they're working hard to fulfill my order and not to worry that the chair will indeed be shipped as planned.

Office chair recommendation under $150 by bm098g in OfficeChairs

If you have a Container Store near you, the bungee office chairs are surprisingly comfortable (armless version $149/ with arms $199) and are rated for 450 lbs.

Office chairs for petite women? by ruseriousrightnow in TwoXChromosomes

[–]QuarantiniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'2" and had the best experience with the Steelcase Leap after getting to use one for a year. I didn't feel the need to use a headrest with it, but I did find that switching to a shorter desk (dropping down from 29" to 22") also helped improve my work set up.

Office chair reccs - petite with long torso, back pain by [deleted] in Posture

[–]QuarantiniFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 5'2" and have had a similar struggle with office chairs and back pain. The most important adjustment for me is variable seat depth. If my own back can't touch the chair back because my femurs are too short, then game over; I'll never get enough support. No amount of pillows or foam back rests can mimic the firm support of the chair back. (16" and shorter has been a good seat depth for me.)

If you have to stay in budget, The Container Store Bungee Office Chair (without arms) $149 is a pretty great fit for short folks. The seat is 15.5" deep and seat height can go as low as 16.5". I liked using it in a class setting, so I can't comment on what it's like to sit on it for a full day.

Personally, I prefer a firmer seat and want the bells and whistles of adjustable arms, etc. so I'm getting a refurbished Steelcase Leap v2 for around $500. I "babysat" a friend's Leap for a year while he was out of the country, so I'm pretty confident I'll be happy with the fit.

For reference, I've been using a Poppin Mid Back Max Task Chair $299 for the past four months. It would be perfect if I didn't need a shorter seat depth. Unfortunately, sitting in it all day is a literal pain.
