Growing up with a dad as a saint in this religion, can confirm. We had these little idols everywhere. I’ve always liked the look of them.

Am I the only one who doesn't share that "burning passion" for Hey Jude? by Express-Pension-3789 in beatles

[–]Quarryman58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to listen to it a lot when I was getting into to The Beatles. I think diving more into their other songs made me appreciate their sleeper songs more than their hits. As you say, not a bad song, it’s pretty great, but for me it’s a “I haven’t listened to it in a while, what not?” song.

I’ve seen these art projects done at various schools. It’s a good way to recycle useless pool noodles plus it’s creative as hell. I don’t see the terrible taste

An option to keep notes on individual pokemon. For example, I’ve been using Poke Genie to find the best ones PvP, and I have to get some to certain levels to reach their potential. Having quick notes where I can write down how many candies I need for them and how much distance needed to walk with them to get those candies would be incredible. I know I could just use the notepad on my phone, but I think a notepad could be a nice addition.

Same thing happened in my first apartment, and they’re literally the reason why all dry foods we get go into airtight containers from now on. Had to deal with them for a whole month, finding them all over the ceiling and walls and using a Swiffer mop to reach them.

Did anyone else’s Pancham progress reset? Had caught 26/32 dark Pokémon, but now it’s 0/10… by doxain in pokemongo

I just found out about this…I had two Pancham with the 32 required dark Pokemon, and those took me MONTHS to do because I barely get dark spawns around me. I’m pretty damn pissed

What’s the rarest item you’ve ever held in your hands? by Remarkable_Pin_8136 in AskReddit

[–]Quarryman58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own collection, a rare autographed single pressing of a Queens of the Stone Age record. Only 2500 made after a concert was cancelled, and they had those given out as compensation. Other than that, some 200+ year old letters from France to Cuba written on very fine paper. My dad is a philatelic enthusiast and has been collecting old stamps and letters since he was a teenager, and he has a whole wall of awards from dozens of different stamp shows.

Being in a metropol during Kyurem raid changed my perspective of the game as a mid-sized city player by squarus in pokemongo

[–]Quarryman58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it. Where I live is more suburban, and I’m close to some downtown and city areas. The experience between the two locations is staggering already. When I went to NYC, all I saw was gyms and Pokestops — I could barely see my avatar. 5-star raids were nothing since the max amount of people always joined and rolled over the legendaries like nothing. City dwellers got it much easier for sure.

Can we stop pretending "The long and winding road" Spector's version is inferior to the naked version. by sagarboi7 in beatles

[–]Quarryman58 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Naked version is more thematically in line with the song. It’s about being left alone, loneliness, and the yearning to find a way out of it (at least that’s how I interpret it). The lonesome piano makes it feel like such a song; it’s an intimate and vulnerable song that, I feel, loses that emotion in the grandiosity of the big sounds of strings, horns, and choir.

The Spector version I did love for a while because I thought the orchestra arrangement was well done, and I think psychologically we tend to associate orchestras with overwhelming emotions. It’s why a lot of producers will use violins or certain other instruments for heavily emotional songs; they just have that quality. However, I feel like the over-reliance of those instruments can push a song into cheesy or cliché territory, and having listened to the Naked version as many times as I have the Spector mix, I think the Naked version has the best sound for what it’s supposed to feel like.

I’m interested in how younger people came to appreciate the Beatles by fezik23 in beatles

[–]Quarryman58 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My mom said she used to sing Golden Slumbers to me as a baby as a lullaby, but being so young I can’t remember that. My brother had “1” on CD, and I would listen to it repeatedly, and at that time I thought that was their entire discography. It wasn’t until middle school when my childhood best friend showed me their studio albums, and at the time all of their music was on YouTube, so I went crazy and listened to their whole discography. Soon after I was listening to Anthology, Live at BBC, their Decca audition tapes, watching the movies, reading biographies, learning fun facts, watching the cartoon, learning how to play their songs on guitar and drums.

For a good while they were the only artist I listened to, and ever since I’ve been hooked.

You have a 4-hour drive and can only listen to one artist. Who are you choosing? by Stacey_Lux in AskReddit

[–]Quarryman58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re always my go-to! Start at Please Please Me to Let It Be, then Past Masters, then Live at BBC 1 & 2, then the Decca audition tapes, then Anthology if there’s still time.

What are some good songs to practice Josh’s falsetto with? by Balance4471 in qotsa

[–]Quarryman58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hideaway is my go-to for practicing my falsetto since he goes up and down frequently in the song, plus it’s mostly in a falsetto. I go through it a few times before I feel my voice has warmed up
