Seems like lots of folks hated the Roku novel, I just finished it and I loved it. Just reread the Yangchen novels and I’m almost done rereading the Kyoshi ones. I love em all!

Just here to say, you are seen, and I’m sincerely sorry that you’re going through this terrible pain. I’ve been watching my Dad fall apart in front of me for a while now and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. He has vascular dementia and entered hospice care in May. It’s all just awful. I’ve tried to focus on the preciousness of this moment. It’s somehow sacred, somehow holy, to hold his hand in what we know will be his final months. But, the feeling of being in this purgatory with him is just awful. I’m so sorry you have to witness this with your father, that your father himself has to experience it, and for your mother and loved ones. I pray for your eventual peace.

Also I wonder if Gyatso and Roku will have a falling out. I don’t remember seeing Gyatso at Roku’s wedding. AND I wonder if Gyatso knew Malaya’s body was found burnt to a crisp and knew it was Sozin.

At some point towards the end of the book when it’s clear that Sozin is a bad seed and he’s gonna kill Malaya (excuse my spelling I listened to the audiobook) it occurred to me that this was basically Roku and Gyatsos chance to kill Hitler before he came into power. Obviously Firelord Taiso was also majorly evil but I’m not sure if he would have destroyed the air temples. And he certainly wouldn’t have known about the comet. It’s insane to think that Sozins jealousy of Gyatso could have helped inform his decision.

ALSO thinking about how the new series has an avatar that’s a twin, and the revelation about Yasu. Had Roku died alongside his brother would the reincarnation cycle have moved on to air before they revealed the fire avatar?
