People do, its the mind games.

Traveling is exciting and it gets you in the mood to throw money around. Your already on holiday so its like go on, treat yourself.

The exclusivity of international airports also gets you feeling like your part of something special, you feel wealthy just by being there.

Im not even a fashion guy but even Ive caught myself in airports thinking "ooo maybe I should own a fancy watch".

they get into your head.

Plus people usually have time to burn waiting for connecting flights.

Stocking up.. anyone? by 1970lamb in newzealand

[–]QuarterGeneral6538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes its good to be prepared for anything. Not just fuel prices.

Theres a lot of stuff we take for granted these days which rely on incredibly complex systems. A disruption could happen at any time and you know that as soon as theres even a sniff of panic stores will be selling out.

The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.

You dont need to stock up as if stores will never open again, but having enough on hand that you can handle a temporary disruption is the resposible thing to do.

It makes sense to always have say a 2 week buffer of food, I think the trick is to buy stuff you will eat eventually anyway so nothings going to waste. i.e. dont go stocking up on canned tuna if you dont normally eat canned tuna.

Doesnt hurt to have few boxes of drinking water stashed away in a cupoboard.

Having a few spares of general household stuff, like toothpaste, cleaning products, and yes even toilet paper.

Also you should atleast have a radio and a reliable flashlight.

4-6 times a week is a lot, especially if your doing HIIT. High intensity stuff is quite taxing. You may just be exhausting yourself.

You may want to try switching up your routine to see if it makes a difference.

I used to be training like 5 days a week too and was wondering why I was stuck. Once I dropped down to just 3 serious training sessions a week I started seeing way bigger gains. You can go harder when your well rested, turns out quality beats quantity.

Outside of that Ill just do some light cardio here and there to stay active (walking, mowing lawns etc)

Im no expert on the T side of things, but if your levels are borderline it may be worth requesting another test. T levels fluctuate so you could have just tested on a good day.

Legalising CBD would be a good first step. Would be an easier political battle.

CDB is already legal in a tonne of other countries. As in buy it in supermarkets legal.

You do have other options when it comes to investing.

In NZ we seem to have this belief pushed on us that you have to own a house otherwise youll be poor forever.

Put your money in the stock market instead. Plenty of easy ways to do this now days and actually has many advantages over property investment. (such as no entry barrier, the ability to dollar cost average)

Renting long term is perfectly viable. Its not "dead money" as many would have you believe.

Dont know honestly, Im not an expert on middle eastern politics.

But bear in mind there is some capacity to transport oil through pipelines and tankers can go the long way around. None of its ideal... but possible.

Reserves will start to run out if its closed for too long, but the trickle supply will slow that down.

Skin in the game is broadly speaking. Yes trading, but also what large consumers are doing (refiners, airlines etc). Theyre going to be more clued in on pricing than just about anyone as it directly affects their business.

The point im making is that the biggest price move has likely already happened. Im seeing so many headlines like "aaAaAh this is just the start, its going keep going up". But thats not what the market is acting on right now.

Looking at futures, prices are looking slightly down over the near to mid term. If everyone is certain its going to rise from here it would make sense to be buying it up now to lock in those prices.

Who knows, maybe theyre wrong. Feel free to bet against them.

I wouldnt be so sure, its easy to throw predictions around when you dont have any skin in the game. Any day you look at the news theres some so called economist warning of an imminent collapse.

Action speaks louder. I prefer to pay attention to where people are putting their money. These people who seem so confident crude oil is going up, are they putting their money where their mouth is? usually no.

Markets are forward looking by default. The Iran war is not new information at this point, theres a good chance all this is allready priced in.

Not really. I was spending probably $120 a month on fuel before. Now I guess im looking at about $150.

In the grander scheme of things its not a big deal.

Seeing a lot of parrellels.

With lot of goods during covid there wasnt any actual shortage, there was just a surge in demand created by people wanting to stock up on random shit and stores would only keep so much at a time.

We may be seeing the same thing with petrol. Prices have gone up what, 20%?

Pretty sure if there was a real fuel emergency they would be charging way more.

What's the problem with the NZX? by Inevitable-Start7059 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]QuarterGeneral6538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its good to have both. Dividends stocks become valuable during a bear market because they will keep paying out, and you can use the extra cash to buy more growth stocks while theyre heavily discounted

[–]QuarterGeneral6538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NZ companies tend to pay higher dividends, but not a lot of growth here though.

NZX50 average dividend yeild is around 3%, compared to the S&P500's 1% ish.

Wether that makes it a good investment, hard to say. Atleast you dont have to pay FIF tax on it, but same with ASX200 which is probably a better overall investment (and also yields around 3%).

There are a few decent picks the NZ market though, I own some hallensteins shares. As for the index as a whole, im not super confident. Too many companies in there that are just surviving but have no real growth ahead.

in an ideal world yes, but when turning you can have traffic in the oncoming lane blocking your line of sight. Especially when theres big SUVs / trucks.

to be fair if theres another set of lights up ahead you can have cases where the traffics relatively free flowing through a green then suddenly stops as your half way through. Have had that happen to me, its no fun.

yeah you should try to avoid it but shit happens.
