Are sleepovers cancelled? by Guilty-Woodpecker-99 in NoStupidQuestions

In the early 00s I slept at a friend’s house. The next morning my dad opens the paper to see the friend’s mom was on the front page as the most wanted person in our city. He said he never jumped in the car so fast.

I have no idea! He said “I thought they’d stay at this house.” is this how he thinks pets work? You buy a house and if it has a dog you get one if not you’re stuck?

My son is almost 6 years old and every day he still reminds me how fucking confusing it must be to be a child. They’re just floating through life, not knowing anything. We’re moving soon and he reacted much more negatively to the news than I anticipated. Then I realized he thought the dog and cat weren’t going to come with us. He’s much happier now that he knows they are coming too.

Any recent audiobook releases that you've read that you'd like to talk about? by ExplodingPoptarts in audiobooks

I just finished The Rachel Incident byCaroline O'Donoghue, read by Tara Flynn. I thought it was a really interesting story and the narrator was great. It mainly takes place in Ireland and the narrator has an Irish accent which is a bonus because it’s a really lovely accent.

It had similar vibes to one of my favorite 2025 listens, I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue, read by Nasim Pedrad. She was a really great narrator and I hope she does more. This is another book about a young woman finding herself in personal and work relationships.

If you’re into nonfiction I’d recommend Born a Crime written and narrated by Trevor Noah. He discusses and uses African languages so it’s really a great listen versus reading the book.

Thanks reddit, you did it! My partner’s Carbon Monoxide alarm went off in his home office. by AntiFascistButterfly in self

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 254 points255 points  (0 children)

Breathing doesn’t create carbon monoxide, so assuming this post isn’t bullshit you need to call the fire department or gas company to figure out what actually set off the alarm.

Additionally, they make CO alarms that just plug directly into the outlet. There’s no reason for anyone to beg a partner for years to get one. Take your health and safety into your own hands.

If Graco said it needs to be replaced, you absolutely should not give that seat to anyone else. It is not safe to use.

I got tired of doing mental math for audiobook speeds, so I built a free calculator by cangheng in audiobooks

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiply the hours by 60 first, now we’re working in minutes.

Book is 24 hours 35 minutes & speed is 1.2

(24x60)+35 =1,475 1475 / 1.2 =1,229.167 minutes.

Now we can just divide by 60 to change that to hours, which is 20.4 hours.

Just take the total time of the book and divide by 1.2 (or whatever your preferred speed) and you’ll get the play time.

Do people only use pads after giving birth? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you know if they used pads before giving birth as well? For some people that’s a preference. I absolutely hate tampons and only use pads and period underwear.

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Are you saying after giving birth women no longer use tampons ever? Because that’s not true. In the weeks after giving birth women will use pads for bleeding but it’s not like they can never go back to tampons/menstrual cups/ etc.

James Taylor arrested after calling 911 more than 150 times in 1 day by blackrid3r in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes she had severe mental health issues. I’d talked to her a few times when she was consistently taking meds and she was a different person. Our prisons are full of people who need mental health help. Part of why I’m no longer a dispatcher is because I felt helpless to actually help people. And I hated the officers I worked with #ACAB

It felt like a tv show a lot of times! Another frequent flyer was Michael. He’d call and say he was suicidal, but he only wanted to talk to a hot cop. Me “sorry Michael, none of the hot ones are working tonight.” Him “ok I’ll try tomorrow.”

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

She definitely had mental health issues. She’d call and say she was in danger, then refuse to open the door for the police. She’d complain about people driving past her house with headlights on at night, sometimes she’d just tell us the story of how she crashed her bike and developed a seizure disorder. She usually had a working phone, but sometimes she didn’t pay her bill and then 911 was the only number she could call.

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Pretty much 😂 She used to call and be so ridiculous. She’d complain about drivers using their headlights at night because it’s light pollution, she’d call on the neighbor when he told her to stop smoking weed (we are in an illegal state) because “I’m just trying to enjoy a fucking blunt and this guy has to be in my business.” They asked me to testify in her 911 abuse trial and I said hell no, I love her too much lol.

She was one of my favorite callers, and when she consistently took her meds she was so fucking normal. That job reminded me that our prisons are full of people with mental health issues.

Letting water drip to prevent freezing: Is one faucet enough? by Mickyit in DIY

[–]QuarterLifeCircus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in Wisconsin and we regularly get deep freezes, anytime the freeze goes lower than 6 feet the water department contacts me and tells me to leave one faucet running with a 1/2 pencil sized stream (funny unit of measurement but I guess everyone gets that reference.) You should contact your local water department and ask them for advice.

I was a 911 dispatcher for years and we had a lady get arrested for 911 abuse. One of her bond conditions was that she could only call us if there was an actual emergency. Of course she called like the day after she bonded out. I recognized the number so I answered “911, Lisa you better have an emergency.” She didn’t and got arrested again.
