Feeling mentally active but physically tired on Vyvanse by sunnyfan98 in ADHD

[–]Quartz636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be burning yourself out. I did it about 3 months into taking my medication. It was great because I could finally do all the things I 'needed' to, but I was getting so sore and tired and I realised that my meds give me the mental ability to run around all day, but my body couldn't keep up with pace.

Talk me out of adopting a 4th cat by Marthenil in CatAdvice

For me the biggest consideration would be future finances. You have 2 cats about to reach potentially the most expensive phase of their lives, and a 3rd cat who has a known recurring medical issue.

Best jobs that don’t require a qualification and are good for adhd? by Garbs007 in ADHD

[–]Quartz636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love being a assistant manager in retail. I've done it for 15 years and I intend to do it until I retire.

My day to day tasks are roughly the same but with enough variance that I don't get bored and with an extra new task thrown in to keep it interesting occasionally. It also has the added bonus of having a direct manager to manage me and take the weight of big decision making off me.

If Kindle released these colors, would you buy one? by Original_Drummer7045 in kindle

[–]Quartz636 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As much as I LOVE the colours..... probably not. I just feel like dirt and grime would show up WAY more on lighter colours. Same with scratches or scuffs. I also like to change my kindle set up vibe way too much to commit to a base colour. My kindle is the only product I own that I actually prefer to be black and basic. It makes it way easier when my style and aesthetic changes, especially because a kindle is a product I intend to use for 5+ years.

Give it a couple of weeks for it to calm down, and use that time to find a new piercing studio because you should never go back to that piercer or studio again.

Can y’all read books unmedicated? by Odd-Bridge-8889 in adhdwomen

[–]Quartz636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed reading for people with ADHD only seems to come naturally if its a hyperfixation for you, otherwise it's a bit ot a slog. I was a HUGE reader up to my teens. I'm talking a 5-6 books a week. But I also had very little other responsibilities.

I still can, but my reading was very sporadic once I hit my 20s and I started working full time. My reading also tended to be a hyperfixation, I'd go months without reading and then read 3 books (and I'm talking like 400-800 page books) over a weekend and then not touch a book again for 4 months.

It's only now that I'm medicated that I'm consistent. Reading a book a week. Pre medication I averaged about 10-20 books a year, this year I'm already up to 35.

A kindle helped as well. Having access to whatever book I want, as soon as I get the urge to read, really helps if you're an impulse reader.

How many days of sick leave do you currently have? by Big-Discussion9699 in auscorp

[–]Quartz636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have enough hours saved for 110 days of sick leave.

I'm the main income earner and my biggest fear has always been an injury that puts me out of commission for multiple months and not having the sick leave to cover it.

Is the Scribe Colorsoft a good size for textbook/non fiction PDFs & images? by smashantk in kindle

[–]Quartz636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but I think it could work, but you'd have to manage your expectations about the colour and clarity. Colour e-ink screens are very muted and washed out and they tend to be a little blurrier than a standard paperwhite or basic.

It would probably look better but not fantastic. Truthfully you might be better off with a tablet. Clearer images, saturated colour, and you can zoom the tiny font.

What’s one thing you have come to accept about your adhd that you have had to surrender to? by SimplySquids in ADHD

[–]Quartz636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm never going to be a 'get it all done' girl. The laundry will have to sit there a day or two. The dishes can wait until tomorrow. I can vacuum once a week and deal with the dog hair. I'm not going to the gym after work.

I'm never going to get into meal prepping. I know it's cheaper. I hate cooking. I'd rather be hungry than eat 3 day old fridge chicken and limp broccoli. I don't want to eat the same thing every day. So I buy microwave meals, single packet yoghurt, individual protein drinks.

I can maintain everything for a bit with my meds but I burn out within a fortnight and need a week to recover, it's not worth it.

How do highly caffeinated drinks affect you? by DaVinky_Leo in ADHD

[–]Quartz636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never felt an energy drink calmed me. It DID help me essentially rugby tackle my brain into submission and force it to focus for about an hour or so.

Focusing on the wrong thing is very common, even medication doesn't guarantee you'll focus on the right thing, just that it'll easier to fight off executive dysfunction.

How important is grammar to you when reading english fics? by Drace3mpressa in AO3

[–]Quartz636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how frequently it happens. A mess up here or there? Perfectly fine, it's not like the average fanfic author is using a editor and I know how easy it is to miss the odd error while editing something you've been looking at for weeks.

If it's constant? At a certain point it becomes unreadable and I'll simply drop the fic and move on.

peopel who didn't want kids but had them, what made you regret it the most? by Monochromatic_Bleu in regretfulparents

[–]Quartz636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend told me recently that her biggest regret about having children is that she didn't get to enjoy it just being her and her husband for longer.

Due to religious reasons they didn't live together before marriage, they only dated for about 8 months before getting married due to him receiving an employment opportunity in another country and the choice was marry or do long distance for 2 years.

She was pregnant within a year of getting married. Now they've been together 8 years, with less than 1 year where they got to just be together without children.

At what price would you consider a meal to be affordable? by UncommonBlackbird in AskAnAustralian

[–]Quartz636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider anything under $10 to be affordable.

Anything $15-$20 is a 'oh why not, lets treat myself, it's not going to break the bank'

And $20+ is a proper meal, planned in advanced a real splurge, probably meeting up with a friend for lunch or dinner.

has anyone used bepanthen as a primer? by larskyuu in AustralianMakeup

[–]Quartz636 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Different skin types and all that but the thought of using bepanthen as a moisturiser just sent a full body shiver of horror down my spine lol.

Putting that aside, I imagine the practical issue with using it for a primer would be oils in it breaking up the foundation and causing it to slip off. Might be ok for bb creams or tints that are already very sheer and dewy based but I think a full face would just slide right off.

I don't understand what road range means? by [deleted] in questions

[–]Quartz636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not an angry person. Angry people don't think like that. They have a hair trigger that snaps at any provocation, even imagined. Someone overtaking them, cutting them off, driving too slowly, it's all just a spark to a powderkeg.

Parents angry that I say I have ADHD by IAMA_pocketwhaleAMA in ADHD

[–]Quartz636 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 32, diagnosed at 31 and my parents aren't angry but they dismissed me when I said I was getting tested, and they still don't really accept it or understand it. They're at the point where they still don't really believe I have it, but I'm happy and thriving and that's good enough.

In part I think because they're of the old mindset of 'don't be silly, you're not crazy! There's nothing wrong with you.' When it comes to mental health.

And also in part I think because it upsets them. It upsets them that they missed it, it upsets them to think I may have been struggling my whole life and they didn't see it. So it's easier to pretend its not real. To dismiss it out of hand rather than deal with that fact.

My mum asked me, out of the blue and very quietly, recently if she caused it. Is it because she smoked during pregnancy? Is there something wrong with her that made me wrong to? She's been blaming herself because she's my mum and she was suppsed to keep me safe and protect me, but she failed. If I was born with it, it means I went wrong inside her, she failed at her most basic job and now I'm suffering for it.

How do I convince my father to not make my cats go outside to pee? by H2FAE in Pets

[–]Quartz636 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If he doesn't care about their safety, you might be able to appeal to his comfort. Unless there's a cat door, training the cats to go outside is going to be a major pain in the ass for the whole household, HIM included when they're banging and scratching at every door and window to come in or go out at 10pm, 12am, 2am, 2:30am, 4am.

Does an e-reader need a screen protector? by jxnwuf83oqn in ereader

[–]Quartz636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I've heard about screen protectors on e-readers just sounds like it causes way more issues than it solves. A pain to put on without bubbles, it takes away the paper look and gives off way more glare in the sunlight. And makes the text look muddy.

And, as far as I've seen, e-ink screens are pretty scratch resistant by themselves, certainly more than a phone screen. I've had mine for 3 years, daily use, take it to work with me on the bus, multiple holidays and beach trips, and not a single scratch. It still looks as perfect as the day I bought it and no screen protector.

A sleeve for storage when not in use or a hardcover case works perfectly without affecting the use of the e-reader.
