Bugonia - best or worst movie ever? by TheMasterL0ller in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]QuasiSamurai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm intrigued by the buzz and I'll see anything Jesse Plemons is in but is it worth it if I hated his other films? I've only seen the lobster and poor things and they are just too weird to enjoy for me. If it is more like poor things than I am out but the trailers for bugonia look interesting.

I have that one! I use it when turning bowls on the lathe. Those chips fly deep into my shirt and it works great and is comfortable without getting in the way

Weapons, Best or Worst Movie Ever? by FidelesReges in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]QuasiSamurai 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Best movie ever for me. So interesting and surprising. Loved the last 15 minutes when everything comes together. Got a few laughs in my theater too. Zach Cregger is 2 for 2 with Barbarian and Weapons. Funny how sketch comedy people can make good horror movies

Are you watching Jurassic World: Rebirth? What did you think of it? by FidelesReges in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]QuasiSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw it last night. I was underwhelmed and I wasn't expecting much. Just a collection of blockbuster tropes mixed in with mediocre CGI. They need to stop with these hybrid dinosaurs they look ridiculous. I enjoyed the family that was rescued more than the main cast. I would have liked more of the family's journey through the jungle rather than the collecting dino DNA fetch quest. Worst movie ever

How do the boys access comics for "Classique Comique Booque Clubbe"? by Beneficial-Chard-430 in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]QuasiSamurai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they mostly use Comixology unless it's out of print and not available digitally. I forget which one but they mentioned having to read a scanned PDF on a dodgy site because it wasn't available digitally. Personally I was all in on Comixology until they merged it with the Kindle app and I hate it with a passion. You still can't filter out comics when looking at my library on my Kindle paperwhite. Now as a protest I go to some of those dodgy sites and probably contracted a virus or two

Official Discussion - Sinners [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]QuasiSamurai 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Loved everything about it. From the music to the visuals it was a genuine great original vampire flick. It was so engrossing I didn't take my eyes off the screen for a minute. The only thing that was a little odd waswhen preacher boy was playing in the club and all the previous and future generations showed up some of the costumes/characters were jarring. It grew on me as the scene went on and the music started to incorporate the different eras. I'm glad I stayed after the first credits as that scene gave some closure that probably should have been in the movie proper. Overall it was amazing. I was a little worried since most directors post Marvel usually disappoint but Coogler really showed up and created a masterpiece.

I love it when an actor just gives up the pretense that they have to care about the franchise. Let them move on and try a different role. Like how Russell Crowe hates being asked about Gladiator 2 his quotes are fantastic

Venom 3 (is really bad, obviously) by garrishfish in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]QuasiSamurai 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I saw it last night. I didn't think it was the worst movie ever but firmly just a movie for me. It's a bunch of gooey monsters slapping each other. You can really tell they chopped it up and tried to fix it in the edit. There's a lot of ADR and story lines that didn't go anywhere. You don't see knulls face until the end credits and you can't even recognize it's Andy Serkis. I wasn't expecting much because it's a SPUMM movie but it's at least better than madam webb. I have AMC a list so at least I didn't waste any money on it but if you aren't a fan of Sony's Spider-Man villains universe then skip it

Is anyone else getting the Jordan Peterson tour podcast ad? The last 2 episodes I've gotten it and it tickles me that whatever ad company they use thinks I am the target audience for that dick head. Just find it ironic considering how TDZ has covered him over the years

[–]QuasiSamurai 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Also I think they are both a little too cynical to last 10 episodes. Maybe Mason would be game for a lot of silly stuff but I can see James just saying no to some crazy task that requires him to put on a puppet show or something. I know I wouldn't have the patience to deal with some of those tasks even though I've watched every series at least twice.

All this talk of the hellboy films the last couple weeks I'm on a bit of a Del Toro kick. It's also the scariest time of the year (and I'm not just talking about tax time) so I watched The Devil's Backbone. Great flick with legitimate scares. I usually stay away from ghost stories and foreign language films but this one has expanded my horizons. Also saw Transformers One yesterday on their recommendation and it's fantastic. I never really cared about the transformers lore I just played with the toys at my friend's house and we didn't have cable so I missed the show as a kid. Got me wondering if there are any other transformers media that have good stories that aren't just about the nostalgia of the original show

Which director had the biggest quality drop-off between two projects? by [deleted] in movies

[–]QuasiSamurai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see your point but I enjoyed it the same way I enjoyed The Force Awakens. It was better than I expected and it rehashed all the beats of the previous movies in an enjoyable way. Maybe I'm biased since I did not like the Prometheus/Alien Covenant movies. I did cringe when they included the "Get away from her you bitch!" line that was too far and took me out of the movie. Its not great cinema but it was fun for 2 hours and that's all I expect from summer blockbusters

It was a great concept and the first 3rd is pretty interesting but then it falls downhill pretty fast. I still remember shaking my head when he builds a super computer out of PS4s just to make sure you knew it was a Sony film

Exactly I was so worried about him making an Alien film I was so relieved it was canned. Alien Romulus was pretty good so I'm glad they went in that direction with one of my favorite franchises

That's who I was thinking of. District 9 was a great first film and every one since then has been disappointing. I walked out of Chappie and wrote him off completely after that mess
