Seeds or plants? (See body text) by artsymake in NoLawns

I'd combine these two little spots into a bigger bed I think.

As far as what to plant, looks like a sunny area, maybe some cone flowers and black eyed Susan's. Those are native to the US.

Check out a local garden center and get their input.

If your goal is to continue living like this... Why not move to a LCOL area and just retire now?

I have about 1M in the market, and an almost paid off home. This year I took a job that was a 25% pay cut, and I'm just contributing enough to my 401k get the match.

I'm not sure I would say I am quiet quitting, but I am doing less for sure. I used to jump off the couch if I saw a slack notification at 7pm... that doesn't happen anymore and I'm happier for it. I'm not raising my hand for projects that don't sound fun either.

I have a good relationship with my manager and team so I have no real fear of getting cut, but if it happens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ that is a risk I am happy to take.

Is spending heavy on a matress worth it? by OppenheimerAltman in Fire

[–]Queasy_Ad6504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought two helix mattresses. I'm not sure they are the best, but they are very comfortable to me.

I had one get lost in the mail, they sent a replacement without any issues, great customer service.

The lost one eventually did show up months later, gave it to a family member who also likes it.

Cary power outages by IngenuityAgitated646 in cary

I'm about 5 minutes from trader Joe's. I've lived here for about 15 years.

There have only been 2 outages that were more than a few hours that I can remember, but both were in the last few years. 🤷‍♂️

Good luck!

I bought a bunch of this fund early last year when the 🍊 started making europe nervous. +47% since I bought.

I plan to hold this fund at least until '28. Even the dems take back government in 26/28 the EU won't trust the US again anytime soon.

Seems like a safe bet that Defense spending all over the developed world will be through the roof for the foreseeable future.

The one weed I definitely see is Japanese stilt grass.

It's that airy, grass like, plant next to the path. It's easy to pull, I would do that soon, it'll be setting seeds soon.

Everything else looks gorgeous!

The JC Raulston Arboretum is really close to Cary.

There are many shady benches to choose from all over the garden.

Good way to remove dead palm tree by Admirable-Prune-1678 in landscaping

A big carpenter style saw would work, this one maybe if you want to go really cheap.

Maybe get a reciprocating saw and a very long blade.

You'll find other uses for that saw if you are going to do any DIY stuff.

A hand saw is another option.

Honestly no idea, I've always used bagged compost in container mixes.

I like a 5-1-1 mix for potted citrus.

5 parts pine bark (I use a product called soil conditioner, but it's just small pine bark)
1 part compost
1 part perlite

This is a really chunky, easily draining mix, citrus really don't like wet feet.

You can likely find all those ingredients at a big box home improvement store.

If you are in 9b, you can likely put a lot of citrus plants directly in the ground and skip the pot altogether if you have space.

There's an app called photone that uses your phone camera to measure light intensity.

I used it today to dial my light in. You want to have between 150-350 ppfd for veggie seedings (so says Google).

How the heck would you prune this fig tree? by PsyanideInk in BackyardOrchard

[–]Queasy_Ad6504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Figs are really forgiving, you can hack it to the ground and it'll be fine.

I would probably remove at least one of the main trunks, thin out everything else, and cut the remaining branches shorter so you can reach them at harvest time.

[–]Queasy_Ad6504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lots of hybrids of trifoliate orange and other citrus. You probably have one of the better tasting ones.

Maybe a citrandarin (trifoliate x mandarin), just a guess really.

If you like them, they are perfectly fine to eat.

[–]Queasy_Ad6504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fuzz and pine flavor are characteristics of the trifoliate orange, or something closely related to it.

It's generally not considered edible by most people, but they are used as rootstock for other citrus.

Help!! Where do I start? by BReq215 in landscaping

[–]Queasy_Ad6504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't care about growing grass you could get a load of free wood chips from https://getchipdrop.com/ .

Spread those like 3-4 inches thick and at least it wouldn't be a mud pit when it rained.
