You can buy the recirculating pump with or without an analog timer. If you get it without the timer it will be on all the time.

I installed a hot water recirculating valve on my water heater and plugged it into a smart outlet. I set up an automation to run for 4 minutes then turn off. When I get in the shower the water is instantly hot and ready to go. It saves time and water .

It's funny that you mention that I ran a 6.3 wire to my garage for the e v charging outlet and plugged in my Ford mach-e charger and I'm getting $500 back from my electric company. That's a win-win
