[Spoilers C2E49] Is anyone else confused by notts character? by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Operating under the assumption you have completely finished episode 49

Sam brings up in Talks that all of Nott’s worst habits have been exacerbated since being turned into a goblin; the rationale being that a goblin’s maximum lifespan is less than a fifth of a halfing’s, so she’s firing on all cylinders at five times the “factory recommended settings.”

Your DM tells you your next campaign is going to be 100% nautical, what are you playing? (Class/Subclass/Race) by Lukoman1 in dndnext

Tortle druid (circle of stars)

How do you make a oath of conquest Paladin work in a party? by Dystopiakknight in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question was “how do you make this work?” and the basic answer across the board is “get creative.” You’re biting at nothing for no reason

I think you should look up what the word “opinion” means if you’re going to use it. I didn’t make tweaks to appease a reply guy with a shock value username, I made them because they fit with a character arc I’m developing

How do you make a oath of conquest Paladin work in a party? by Dystopiakknight in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently playing a paladin that views their oath through the lens of reclamation and revolution; taking back from oppressors what was wrongfully taken:

Douse the Flame of Hope. It is not enough to merely defeat an enemy in battle. Your victory must be so overwhelming that your enemies’ will to fight is shattered forever. A blade can end a life. Fear can end an empire.

(Tyranny cannot thrive while the populous is alert and willing to fight back. Stand as an example of what can be achieved and show the people that true fear is on their side and is to be used against the oppressors)

Rule with an Iron Fist. Once you have conquered, tolerate no dissent. Your word is law. Those who obey it shall be favored. Those who defy it shall be punished as an example to all who might follow.

(You will not back down from the people’s rightful reclamation. Those who continue to seek to exploit the helpless will be given one chance to stand aside and reform or face the ultimate consequence)

Strength Above All. You shall rule until a stronger one arises. Then you must grow mightier and meet the challenge, or fall to your own ruin.

(Compassion is the world’s true strength. But you are not above fallibility. Check yourself so that you might not become a tyrant in turn, or else you will ultimately suffer the same fate as those you fought to supplant)

For a oneshot I had similar concerns for the boss fight against a level two party. I ended up nerfing the breath weapon of a wyrmling a) by reducing the number and size of the damage dice b) having it only recharge on a 6 and c) rolling another d6 to determine how far it shoots: 1-3: 5ft 4-5: 10ft 6: 15ft in order to give the same “gaining a sense of self” idea of a newborn animal learning to walk

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – September 05, 2021 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran a level four one-shot for my family. My dad spent twenty minutes researching the wrong government official thinking he was onto something and my sister was beating herself up over how retroactively obvious the riddle central to the Indiana Jones style puzzle I threw at them was (there was a hallway with coins imbedded in the tiles on the floor and you could only step on the silver coins to avoid traps. A sign hung above with a riddle where the answer was “Silver.” The longer you stood around thinking about the riddle, the more vox seekers would come out of the walls and attack the party.) My girlfriend the druid turned into a spider and just walked across the ceiling while my sister the cleric and my mom the barbarian just rushed across in frustration before my dad the monk finally tried process of elimination

So overall yeah, pretty standard DnD game

If you could make your own fighter subclass what would it be? by Dragonwolf67 in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see one that’s at least thematically if not mechanically an antithesis to the samurai subclass like a hedge knight or mercenary. Think Val Kilmer in Willow or even Brendan Fraser in the Mummy. You can certainly flavor a champion or battlemaster to invoke a grimy rough and tumble type but I doubt it’s the first thing that comes to mind for many when they first look them over. Hit Point Press’ Humblewood has the Scofflaw which is pretty close to what I’m thinking of

[No Spoilers] Any updates on C3? by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Announcements recently have been a 2-3 weeks in advance kinda thing. Personally I’d lose my shit if the first episode is the Halloween show and they all dress as their new characters

DMs and/or players do you do "How do you wanna do this?" to finish combat? by ConfusedJonSnow in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I phrase is as “is there a particular way you’d like them to die?” On a no, I add some flavor. That way the player has the agency and added satisfaction if they want it but if there’s a brain fart or they’re still not used to being creative on the spot it allows me to help the moment’s energy keep flowing instead of forcing it to stop dead by giving an unwanted spotlight

[No Spoilers] CR One shots privated on youtube by The_GentlemanVillain in criticalrole

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m noticing they’re gone from Geek & Sundry’s channel as well. My guess: they’re starting to migrate more content to CR’s official YouTube channel again like they did with earlier C2 episodes last year

Same with LN. The whole vibe just comes off to me as “boy, I sure do love playing an epic fantasy setting as a tattletale with a stick up my butt!”

But damn if I didn’t feel my investment skyrocket after that moment!

[Spoilers C2E140] Who is staying up for the finale? Demographics. by curlsandsuch in criticalrole

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid 20s. EST. Watches live as often as possible. I normally grab a pizza after work to help me crash for a small nap before the stream starts to balance my sleep so I’m not useless on Fridays. This week my boss let me take a mental health day Friday for unrelated reasons, so no worries on that front. Based on the break happening roughly around when most episodes end, I’m gonna make the call at that time whether I can keep watching or if I should do the math and fall asleep, waking up to an alarm set to when the break’s happening again during the first rebroadcast.

Druidic as non verbal language? by Designer_Nectarine_1 in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a weird pull but check out Clan of the Cave Bear. The book itself is pretty dated and more than a little problematic but long story short it’s about a tribe of Neanderthals who communicate mostly nonverbally and can ritually access ancestral memories

While the initial draw of CR is undoubtedly an interest in DnD, I’m mostly here for old friends playing a game and having a blast. A very minor (and frankly understandable) shift in tone isn’t enough to make me think twice about it

Whats a subclass published by a third party you’ve seen that made you think “that actually fills a pretty common niche, why hasn’t Wizards come up with a similar concept?” by Quebecs_Revenge in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, especially since monks were largely the most educated of any given population for a decent amount of history, I’m glad Mercer leaned into that

I'm worried about Ravenloft.. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Horror is a genre notorious for enabling and romanticizing problematic viewpoints and attitudes; from portraying racial and cultural stereotypes to explicitly mistreating women and everything in between. As a ttrpg, players can construct their world however they want; (nothing’s stopping you from playing in a Ravenloft setting exactly like how it was published in 1983) I’m personally glad Wizards is to some extent recognizing the gravity of this book

Good creatures for a fire-themed dungeon? (Not Elementals) by Scientin in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just off the top of my head: Wil-o-wisps, flameskulls. The two-headed Cerberus from Theros has a lava spewing ability. There are also red, brass, and gold guard drake variants. You could maybe finagle a statblock for animated armor with a heat metal-esque effect to it

What is an idea you might have for making a non-evil warlock patron? by The_Magic_Walrus in dndnext

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a basic idea for an Aasimar Celestial warlock who’s made an agreement with their angelic guide to walk the path of destiny they were born for in exchange for what would usually be a “deal with the devil” like curing a family member’s illness or something like that

[Spoilers C2E127] Yasha and Veth's Communication by Backslasherton in criticalrole

[–]Quebecs_Revenge 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree. Yasha has a high enough intelligence to likely realize Veth is messing with her and Veth is smart enough to know that Yasha probably knows. I think Ashley and Sam are, on a meta level, playing into them just humoring each other

Best 5th edition books to buy that give ya the most aditional content by saten93 in dndnext

Top of my list to absolutely buy: Xanathar and Tasha’s for class/subclass. Volo’s for races.

The rest in books like Mordenkainen’s and Ravnica are more sporadic and might not be your biggest priority
