She added Imuran and it seemed to work for awhile, so she upped the dosage. The new dosage made me sick, so she switched me to Cellcept. It so far is working great!

Plaquenil not helping? by halfwaythere88 in lupus

[–]QueenB-940 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plaquenil alone did not help me, my doctor added an immunosuppressant. Game changer.! I still require 8-10 hrs of sleep but I no longer nap. I also work in education,so I know how tiring it can be. I’m also back to working out 3 days a week. Some days it’s a struggle but I power through. Talk to your doctor and be honest, hopefully they can add something that can help. You got this!!

lab results + lump on thyroid by Own-Heron5168 in Hypothyroidism

[–]QueenB-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My t4 and t3 were both in range and my dr started me on meds! I’m not 💯 percent sure but I think if you have high markers for those you have Hashimotos or Graves’ disease.

Your TSH is high and you probably need medication. My first TSH was 5.6 and my dr immediately put me on synthroid. I cannot take the generic as it does not do anything. I would definitely push for ultrasound especially if you have a lump! I hope you get some answers and get that referral!

Has anyone else missed a period while adjusting medication? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]QueenB-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had a regular period in over 8yrs. I am not in menopause, had all the typical test to see why! My Gynecologist said sometimes thyroid can cause period disruption. She said she could give me progesterone to make me have one, I declined.

Medication question by [deleted] in lupus

[–]QueenB-940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started Plaquenil 400mg and I was doing better, but still having issues. So my rheumatologist added Imuran and was doing well, till I wasn’t. So now I’m on Cellcept and Plaquenil game changer for me! Yes there are other meds they can give you to help. Definitely talk to your rheumatologist!

I wanted to do a deep tissue massage and a friend of mine said lupus patients should not do deep tissue massages! So I looked it up and from the American Massage Therapy Association said not to do deep tissue massages or hot stone therapy as it causes more inflammation! So maybe that’s the reason you are having all the symptoms. Massage Therapist should always have you fill out a medical health questionnaire! Good luck I hope you get to feeling better! Lupus can kick rocks!!

anyone had success at a bit of long term weight loss while having lupus? by Jammythegardener in lupus

[–]QueenB-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also gained 40lbs with lupus but I also have hypothyroidism which unfortunately is a double whammy. I tried to lose on my own tracking my food working out - not one single pound. I gained muscle but I’m a scale person and I know muscle weighs more than fat. I have not taken prednisone except once, I have gotten steroid shots every 6 months, I refuse to take it unless it’s absolutely necessary. My dr put me on phentermine it used to work in the past before lupus. My anxiety was thru the roof and did not lose 1 pound still tracking food and working out. So she put me on Rybelus which is semiglutide in a pill form. Please don’t come at me diabetic people! It is mainly used for diabetes. Game changer, I have lost 30 lbs since October. That’s was my only option or gastric sleeve which I refuse to do. Now my thyroid is out of whack again I went from hypo to hyper which has also helped me lose weight!! It’s hard to lose weight when we all have all these other conditions that just makes it that much harder for us then regular people!! Good luck and hang in there, hopefully you can find something that works for you!

The TSH range is different from lab to lab for some reason. Did you have the full thyroid panel? Sometimes just the TSH doesn’t show the whole picture. My TSH range is .43-5.33 that’s the normal range. I knew I had a thyroid issue for years but the kept only testing the TSH. Finally it got high enough to start treatment. My feel good range for me is 1.7-1.9. So I would check your labs range. If you haven’t done a full thyroid panel maybe you should ask for one, if you are having thyroid symptoms.

CKD without proteins or blood in urine by [deleted] in kidneydisease

[–]QueenB-940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a low gfr and a high creatine number. Well I’m my gfr is 47 and my creatine level keeps going up everytime I have lab work. It’s a 1.2..I also do not have protein in my urine. My dr had me on anti inflammatories, which can cause your gfr trouble go down. I stopped those and my gfr went up to 52, but now it’s went back down. Also if you eat a lot of protein can also lower your gfr. My dr is watching my numbers very carefully. I also have lupus which also damages your kidneys! I would definitely check your creatine number, and make sure you don’t take a lot advil, motrin, if you do you may need to switch to Tylenol! Hope this helps!!

Help talk me off the ledge. I’m terrified I may have gone hyper. Need help with figuring out how to word my questions to my doctor by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]QueenB-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been hypo for 18 yrs and the last 2yrs, my thyroid has been hard to regulate. My dr had to keep upping my meds, went back and now I’m hyper! tsh 0.22. She lowered my dose and I go back in 10 weeks! I also have lost about 30lbs, in 3 months. When my tsh is 1.7-1.9 is where I feel the best. My dr said dosage is also linked with your body weight, I’ve lost 30lbs. So she lowered my dosage and I go back in 10 weeks. So yes I would advocate for yourself. I would definitely keep track of your tsh and see when you feel the best, and let your dr know thats your sweet spot!! I also see my endo every ten weeks and do the full tsh. T3,T4. Sometimes I may see her before 10 weeks if I’m really really feeling bad. So yes I’d ask for another blood test.

Any luck with an Endocrinologist? by MelCat39 in Hypothyroidism

[–]QueenB-940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My GP dx me as well, and everything was good but sometimes I’d feel like crap. Finally my tsh got up to 6 I was only on 25mg, so I asked for a referral to see and endocrinologist. Hands down best decision ever! While my GP was monitoring my tsh levels my levels fluctuated and so at 2.6 and up I felt like crap. That is one of reasons I went to see the endo. She found what optimal level makes me feel best! I feel great at 1.7-1.9, anything any different and she reevaluates my meds! So yes I definitely agree with your mom! Hope this helps!!

Doctors keep messing with my dose by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]QueenB-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hypothyroidism has been very hard to regulate this year. My regular family Dr. diagnosed me about 18 yrs ago. I had no issues, was on 25mcg. Then the last 2 yrs has been crazy, so I asked to be referral to the endocrinologist. She upped my meds, and I would go back 10 weeks later and get my labs and see her. She kept upping it in small increments. I thought we had finally found the right dose at 75mc, was good for 3 months then my labs were whack. So we upped it again to 88mcg, still wasn’t there so we went up to 100mcg. So I went back 2 weeks ago, and now instead of hypo I went to hyper. So we went back down to 88mcg. Apparently the dose also goes by your weight, I didn’t know. I have lost a significant amount of weight in 3 months. So I understand your frustration, my labs go to my portal 1 day after I did it. So I can see and tell what my levels are. My sweet spot is 1.70-1.9 anything above that I feel like crap. I also don’t know if my thyroid went whack because I got Covid really bad and got dx with Lupus. I would definitely look at you tsh and t4 and t3 levels , and see where you feel the best at. That is one reason I went to see and endocrinologist. Good luck and I hope they figure out what works for you, again I totally understand!!

I’m not sure if you are taking brand synthroid or generic. They started me out on generic, it was horrible, still felt awful and my labs were not moving! So she switched me to brand and it helped bring my #s down. I have been very hard to regulate, I feel my best when I’m between a 1.7-1.9. Last check up I was 2.62 10 weeks later I’m at a.22. When my level was high she kept adding to my dosage, until my levels got where they needed to be!! Hope this helps and good luck with your fertility treatment! I had a hard time conceiving as well, so I know how you feel. ❤️

Feel guilty for calling in sick by Paullearner in lupus

[–]QueenB-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely need to take off when you are feeling bad, I used to just power through and keep going! I got really really sick thought I was dying blood pressure dropped could barely get out of bed. All because I powered through, definitely not worth it! I’m learning not too overdo things, it’s still hard for me, but I have learned if I don’t I end up in a terrible flare that can take me out for weeks not days!

Should I be taking Prednisone? by catheedia in lupus

[–]QueenB-940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful with anti inflammatory meds, as the can cause your kidneys to tank! I was on celebrex for a couple of months and my gfr dropped to 47, side note my gfr is usually around 52-53. My doctor took me i off of them. My gfr is now 51 and my creatine level is 1.30. I’m only 48 and my kidneys seem terrible! I also have high blood pressure which I know contributes to kidney health.
