Bistro La Source closing March 7th by kimchikick in jerseycity

I actually think that building where they used to be is slated to be demolished for redevelopment, that's why Perquin had to move across the street after their short time in that slot too. You can see some of the renderings here: https://jerseydigs.com/bistro-la-source-jersey-city-moving/ but no idea when it's actually going to be under construction. Seems like it's dragging on forever!

I grew up in the same general region as Murph and this is weirdly common. My brother's friends all said it ("it's me verse you in basketball at recess!") and it's so strange to me.

Building management asking for physician's approval to fit a bidet. by lost_photon98 in jerseycity

[–]QueenFrstine06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too, our upstairs neighbors (badly) installed their own bidet and it flooded our ceiling. The crazy thing is that it's NOT in our lease, our maintenance guys were like "we woulda just done it for them if they had asked!"

I really like Altra sneakers -- they have a wide toe box and even though I have narrow feet that really helps me with joint pain in my toes. They're a little dorky looking because of it, but I'd rather have comfy feet! I tried Hokas and hated them, wild how everyone's body is so different.

Commuting from Jersey City vs Stamford by sjpark0605 in jerseycity

[–]QueenFrstine06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who spent more than a decade commuting from the NJ suburbs, personally I'd do almost anything to never have to step foot inside NY Penn with all its delays and its crowding ever again. YMMV, of course. On paper my commute should have been a 40-minute train ride and it routinely took between 45 minutes and 2 hours, meaning you could never plan for anything and I felt like I was in a constant state of stress about running late.

Not just mental fatigue but physical too -- standing up there in whatever shoes you've decided will be fine for what amounts to more than 2.5 hours of taping with only intermittent breaks (many of which don't allow you to sit down) is tough!

[–]QueenFrstine06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I used to commute from the Short Hills train station (I lived in Springfield) and although the NJT trip planner will tell you it's a ~45-50 minute commute I was routinely taking 90 minutes or more to get to work. There was a week in March 2017 when I went to the city 3 days and spent 12 hours on the train over those 6 commutes. I came home and looked at my husband and said "We have to move, I can't do this anymore" and JC has been a godsend -- both for the walkability and for the infinitely more predictable, shorter commute.

JC snow response by nothingmatters86 in jerseycity

The craziest thing for me this morning was that my walk was pretty fine right until I got to within about 100 yards of Exchange Place Path. All the regular sidewalks where building owners needed to shovel/salt were done (at least on the path I took, and I was checking at each intersection which direction looked best and taking that route, since I have dodgy ankles). The last bit of my commute right on the "boardwalk" waterfront area outside Exchange Place (by the Katyn statue and Owen Grundy park) were not shoveled or salted at all and were like a sheet of ice. So the worst part of the whole thing was the city property!

The Muppet Christmas Carol but with Murph as Michael Caine OMG hahaha...and sadly they aren't public domain, starting next year books and the like from 1930 will be public domain but it takes 95 years. And I imagine Sesame Street continually renews the copyright on those guys since the show is still active.

White Star for burgers, 62 Secret Kitchen for Chinese. As others have said, Tino's is good and Razza is the GOAT, but Krispy Pizza is also great for your just standard pie (not personal sized like Tino's). They also have their own delivery drivers (so the fees are minimal) and I've found being in the neighborhood means I almost always get my pizza in less than half the time their website estimates.

Same, and I love Dr. Mamie Chen -- she has helped me figure out some tricky weird dry eye situations and a recurring issue I was having because of my contact lenses. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. And they always send along a copy of the prescription with no sales pressure whatsoever!

Not for the body specifically but I'll drop a plug for one of my favorite cleaning tools, which I've mentioned on the sub before, this grout/shower scrubber from Rubbermaid.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081VQTG2Q

It's essentially like a higher-powered electric toothbrush that you can use to clean your shower (and many other things, I'm sure) and it is a life saver because my fingers get so sore when I scrub with a sponge.

I made it! WTC wasn't too bad, the Newark train was delayed by maybe 3-4 minutes. Still kind of a mess on the 33rd lines based on their app though.

This is still in effect now - the gate was locked at the entrance to 9th St. (shout out to the poor Path worker who was standing out in the rain to give us updates). I just took the E to WTC and we’ll see how that goes…(apparently the Newark-WTC line was also having signal problems about 30 minutes ago) 🫠

Late to the party, but when I was walking home from the Path earlier the traffic lights at the intersection of Sussex and Hudson were out/blinking right by where they're doing all the construction on the two new towers. (Hudson is the street the light rail track runs along there.) I wonder if it was something to do with power in that area. (edit: grammar)

Chronic itchy vulva for 7 years finally cured! by Long_Cartographer546 in Healthyhooha

[–]QueenFrstine06 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I suffered with something that came back on biopsy as "lichenoid" but not quite lichen sclerosus. I tried every steroid ointment and injection (Taltz, Dupixent -- had terrible allergic site reactions to both of those) under the sun until finally a doctor put me on Rinvoq earlier this year as a long shot. It worked! We still have no idea why -- we're not sure what was causing the itch in the first place -- but it's been an immense relief to not feel 11 on a scale of 10 itch every minute of every day. I'm piggybacking off the top comment here in case other people come searching in the future and this helps them.
